new team
by suresh bala on Aug 13, 2004 12:56 AM

Dinesh karthik's inclusion is welcome but ganguly's comments on dravid continuing to do wk duty sound ominous for the new cap. will he end up being a passenger on the team and be judged by a solitary ad-hoc outing only to be dropped permanently? one hopes he will be given as much of a chance to succeed as to fail.
parthiv patel was hailed as the new find not so long ago but i think all followers of teh game will agree that his batting has to get a lot better for him to secure a palce at this level. other nakmes taht come to mind are Tilak Naidu. wonder why he is not even mentioned anymore.
A break will do Zaheer good. although i wonder about agarkar. he is clearly not an all-rounder. and his bowling is erratic. balaji& irfan perform better and more consistently with teh bat and ball. with nehra in teh side there is no point in including agarkar. powar would have been abetter choice and added to our spin options.
kaif is suspect and while i feel good for gavaskar, 32 is rather late to enter the game. badani is far superior and his injury has been made an excuse.
finally there's abig question mark over ganguly. will he have the courage to drop himself for the team's benefit???

Zaheer,Parthiv dropped

Its a very positive move from the indian think tank. Both of them must realise that they are in the team on the basis of their performance. And in last few seasons, they have not performed very good.i think, Kaif should also be dropped and we should give more chances to players like badani.

Rajesh
New Team for the Tri Nation Cup in Holland
by Rajesh on Aug 07, 2004 11:42 AM

It is somewhat a good decision by the selectors to select a Specialist WK in the Squad have some batting skill to strngthen the Lower Order. And it is very surprising to see Rohan Gavaskar in the team. Instead of Gavaskar, they can consider Hemang Badani for that Slot. Gangulay Should change the batting Order. Shevag should come at NO 4 or No 5 for India. The Playing Eleven and Batting order which I Prefer is as follows

1. Sachin Tedulkar
2. Sourav Ganguly (capt)
3. Rahul Dravid
4. Virender Sehwag
5. Yuvraj Singh
6. Mohammad Kaif
7. Dinesh Karthik (wk)
8. Irfan Pathan
9. Ajit Agarkar
10.Harbhajan Singh
11.Ashish Nehra

12.Lakshmipathy Balaji

Reserves
Anil Kumble,VVS Laxman,Rohan Gavaskar

Gangulay can use Irfan Pathan,Dinesh Karthik (wk)or Ajit Agarkar as Pinch Hitters.

ZAHEER , PARTHIV
by Biren on Aug 07, 2004 05:14 AM

I do not understand why 1) Kaif is hanging out there in the Indian team?? He should have a big jack in the selectors team. When we make comments like sachin gets out when needed, Zaheer did not bowl well in a single match, Parthiv Patel, At least see their approach towards the game. What has 2) Ganguly done since a year & a half now, Made 100's against Kenya or Holland or some teams of that level. 3) Shehwag wins the match but 1 in 15. I think if promoted in batting order Zaheer can perform better than Gangully (Depending on his past 2 years record against standard teams) or Sehwag, also I do not agree to this decision if it is based on performance.

agarkar
by rahul on Aug 07, 2004 02:30 AM

agarkar really deserves this. he is one of the best and most experienced bowler in the indian squad (among fast bowlers). he is far better than zaheer.

RIGHT DECISION
by A.R.RAGHURAMAN on Aug 07, 2004 12:27 AM

Yes. Right decision to drop zaheer and parthiv. Agarkar, though given many come back opportunities, still deserve. He can do better. Parthiv has been the reserve wicker keeper for the whole 5 one day series and few other. where is the need for a reserve wicket keeper when we play in srilanka which is two hours journey and in home series for replacement? Certainly instead parthiv, had we sent any batsman, could have played in place of laxman against pakistan. And more over, parthiv did not play big innings when the opportunity was given to him. Let us try Dinesh Karthik, who seems promising.

good for country that non-performers have been dropped
by suraj on Aug 06, 2004 07:37 PM

zaheer got a much deserved downfall and parthiv anyways, never been able to achieve any heights.
at one point of time both these players took their place in the national side for granted and nation suffered dearly. zaheer's bowling in the world cup final was a disaster , and parthiv left many chances in australian tour, otherwise also he keeps making costly mistakes. their are other young and talented players who are deserving but still waiting just because these two players were taken solely on the basis of experience than ability. all the best wishes to indian cricket team.
