Team Selection for the coming series
by Ashwin on Aug 06, 2004 06:35 PM

I feel that the selectors have shown maturity in selecting the team. Parthiv had recieved enough chance now. It is only early part of his career. He can surely make a comeback. The decision to include Dinesh Karthik as wicket keeper batsman is also a welcome decision. Giving Rohan priority over Dinesh Mongia is an expected decision as Mongia could not prove his metal when India needed the most. Kaif is an asset to the team as a fielder but he has to prove himself as a batsman in this series. Otherwise I feel that it would be his last chance. Agarkar also gets his last chance.

Agarkar does not deserve a place in the Team.He has given ample opportunity. He is an all rounder only on paper.

Dropping of Zaheer and Parthiv
by pramod_gr on Aug 06, 2004 11:57 AM

It is a good move to drop Zaheer and Parthiv. Zaheer has been injured for a long time and he is unconsistant also, He is heard of saying that he has "forgot" his run up. Better to rest him and include Agarkar who can also do a bit with his bat.
Parthiv Patel is very unconsistant for a long time from now & when the team needs a Wicketkeeper Batsmen he has failed to deliver the goods. But I oppose of selecting Rohan Gavaskar instead of Hemang Badani. Rohan is already 32 and we cannot hope for future with him . Badani is not only a good batsmen but also a good fielder. Selecting him will be good for future

Ganguly should have been dropped
by Harsh on Aug 06, 2004 07:21 AM

Ganguly should have been dropped. It's becoz of him that we lost the match. Moreover Bihar's wicketkeeper Dhoni should have been selected.it's a clear case of State discrimination on the half of the selectors.

Welcome change..
by Raghavendra Udupa on Aug 06, 2004 06:32 AM

Finally, its good to get rid of Parthiv Patel. It was only his age that was the factor. Otherwise, his wicket keeping ability was always doubtful. May be he's a better 'fielder' than Sehwag, but not a wicket keeper. As far his batting skills, its ok, but for that you can always take a specialist batsman. We should atleast realize that hype is not going to take to the top. The team completely ignored his mistakes as a wicket keeper and was always excused being young.

Otherwise, Zaheer was also misfit. But, Agarkar for him? This Agarkar factor will always be there in our team. Instead, we could have explored Munaf Patel or Raghavendra Rao of Karnataka (who's 6.5 feet tall - when you can hype Partiv for young, why not Rao for being tall for a bowler).

Rohan Gavaskar please retire from cricket. You'll anyway be a extra baggage who'll always sit out. Why Rohan? To please Senior Gavaskar.

And, after all, who's this Nair of Kerala. I don't think, he might have felt how a cricket bat is. He had to scream for that 'massager' of Pak as to why he's there with the team. And Nair, who's going to scream against you for why are you are here?

Better late then Never
by Ravi on Aug 06, 2004 06:10 AM

At long last, these guys have come to their senses.
If these changes were made before the Asia Cup we
would not have fared so badly. Hope India performs
well in the Holland Cup and the ICC Trophy.

Go India Go. BEST of luck to Team India.

Cheers
Ravi
