Shabby Treatment to a great spinner
by jayashankar on Sep 26, 2003 09:38 PM

I'm sorry that I have to be too harsh on the BCCI for not looking properly on former great players like Prasanna. It is correct to say that None of the Board Members, our Present bowlers can stand near the four quartet. of them one is prassana. I also strongly say that why do you hire foreign coaches when some one like prasanna is there. Is BCCI running business to promote the interest of the board members alone. He should have been given atleast a chance of selectors. He played only for the country and not for records or staying in the team like the Mumbai Players. When you are taking the field for India we need players like srikanth, dravid, sachin, prasana, bedi, venkat, kapil, chandrasekar who gives every thing to make it happen for one billion Indians. what I suggest is: give the luxurious contract of Indian coach, the bowling coach or the selectors post! It is annoying to see John wright at the top of the Post! what did he do for India when we toured N.Z..what did he teach..Mind that he is a native of N.Z..He failed miserably..Pack him first and give prasanna his due respect.

Otherwise no body would respect BCCI and its members.

Double Standards
by Kmadan on Sep 26, 2003 09:24 PM

It has been a surprise to learn that an extraordernary
cricketer like Prasanna was forced to say all these hard facts. These are nothing but double standards adapted by the BCCI.One one side they are ready to offer every thing to cricketers
like Vengsarkar,Vishwanath who are already well through and on the other hand they have simply forgotten cricketing greats like Prasanna.Just because he doesnot have all those manuplating skills media managing qualities and is not a part of any kind of politics. It is hard to belive that on one side the current International cricketers are getting lakhs and lakhs of rupees and BCCI has almost forgotten these cricketers like Prasanna and may be many more who gave everything to cricket and their country and now when they are in the
there later phase of life they feel completely neglected.Just imagine if any young, grooming cricketer will learn all these things what kind of encouragement or lets say discouragement will he get out of this.It is really high time that BCCI does something about this otherwise we are going to hear more realities of these kind in future.

Crocodile tears
by R. Raman on Sep 26, 2003 06:15 PM

Prasanna's story is typical of an Indian cricketer. He gets an Engineering seat with his cricket skills. He puts in little effort towards studies (in the first place he doesn't deserve the Engineering seat) and still gets his degree because of his cricket image. In the same way, he gets into a senior position in a bank or public sector because of his cricket skills. He does little work even when he doesn't play cricket, because he is not expected to work. Everyone adores him and feels great to be seen with him. He feels like a god and takes his job for granted.

Even after stops playing cricket, he continues to live a glossy life. until he is broke and borrowed money to the hilt. Then he complains and broods and then we think the BCCI is at fault and so on.

In his own words, he got US$ 35K from Sharjah Benefit fund. Being an Engineer, couldn't he manage this money in a reasonable way for his future (which was what it was meant for anyway) ? Can Prasanna be bold enough to disclose what he did with his benefit fund ? Can he tell us what happened to his PF funds or pension that he got out of his long service in his employement ?

prasanna's plight
by shanker padmanabhan on Sep 26, 2003 05:30 PM

sad to read about his fate. why don't some of his ex colleagues get together and help him instead of depending on the board? by the way,how are the others (bedi, chandra, venkat) doing? bedi always seemed to be more streetsmart and venkat,I heard has got a sports goods shop. that leaves chandra and pras , poor guys(literally)

give him the benefit of the doubt
by G.V.Prasanna on Sep 26, 2003 04:33 PM

Poor chap.Give him what he wants.Money is very essential and i agree that he has to live upto the standards as/of a great (Indian) cricketer.Undoubtly he is the best off spinner India has ever produced and surely with his skills ACQUIRED ON THE FEILD DURING HIS HEY DAYS,he could impart these skills/techniques to the present day youngesters. He surely did India proud and will make India proud by producing better Off spinners in the days to come.

Give him a chance.

prasanna
by srivathsan on Sep 26, 2003 04:28 PM

It is really disgusting to read the plight of the flight supremo prasanna. The bcci with so much of funds at their disposal should have a scheme for old cricketers who got pittence in their days of play.Prasanna won many matches for india with his guile & has been rated the best in his days ahead of lance gibbs.Sir frank worrel, the greatest captain the world has seen once said that pras can turn a ball even on a glass turf-so much for his ability.BCCI can at least hire their services &pay them well.As regards camparison only murali can come near him &our bhajji is a light year away.

Prasanna's Plight
by YPC Prasad on Sep 26, 2003 04:25 PM

It is sad to hear the financial condition of Prasanna, one of the greatest indian spinners. The board should come forward and help this past hero to lead an honourable life in society till his last. It is not merely the number of wickets that speaks about the ability of this great spinner. In fact he is the number one spinner of his time and arguably the greatest off spinner ever played cricket. He needs every encouragement at this age.
