He brought it on himself

I do not understand this, millions of Indians have had fewer opportunities than Prasanna and yet have done better than asking somebody else to look after them.

In addition to money received while being a player, he was also, if I remember correctly, was employed by a well known company. This employer definitely would have paid him decent wages. In addition he was paid by CBSF (Sharjah) and was entitled to a benefit game like all the other test cricketers. If a man cannot make a decent living inspite of all this, I suggest that he take a better look at himself and not blame anybody else.

It\'s Me
Prasanna Without An Anna
by It\'s Me on Sep 28, 2003 06:39 AM

It is very strange to go through the comments given by so many people on this topic where in, if not all, most of them sympathize with Prasanna. There are thousands of other people who are leading a worse life than Prasanna. They even don't have a 4-walled room to stay in (at least Prasanna owns one, a part of which he has leased to support him monetarily!!). Being a celebrity once upon a time, he at least has got the opportunity to express himself through the media (which might help him financially) but at the same time, there are thousands of other people who don't even get a chance to narrate their woes??? 'Coz he had represented India in the international arena, BCCI might still arrange a benefit match naming him a as a beneficiary in the future or the govt. might take some initiative to help him out fiscally but can even a single destitute person out of the thousands living in India, leave alone expect, even dream of seeing such a light at the end of the tunnel????? No, never.....why?? 'Coz they know that such a dream will never materialize!! Prasanna can at least dream this, isn't it?

Prasanna's woes reflects Indian sport scenario
by Rajiv Ranganathan on Sep 28, 2003 12:37 AM

It's shocking to see the plight of one of the best off-spinners in the game. If this condition can occur to greats like Prasanna, one shudders to think where the lesser known sportsmen of yesteryears are today. This could be the most potentially damaging reason why a middle class family in India never looks to sport as a career and as a result brilliant sporting talent gets caught up in academic fields. I sincerely hope the authorities take action in this regard, not only for Prasanna's sake but for the sake of the future of Indian sport too.

Prasanna - A Broken Man
by kannar on Sep 27, 2003 07:28 PM

I completely agree with the message posted by another user(Manu)... Unlike most of you, who feels sympathy to EAS P, I certainly do not feel any sympathy... Hey, I agree that the players from those days did not earn much compared to current players. But, should be viewed like any other profession. Do not idiolize them... EAS P should have been wise enough to have saved money for his future and if he wants to maintain his image in public, it is his issue. At least for cricketers, there are perks like benefit matches and stuff like that... For other profession, like software or doctor or any ordinary citizen, there is no such thing and they too want to maintain their image and pride and they can not expect someone to give money... So, get over it people...
