It's not a question that weather we need a foreignn bowling coach, but what we need a right person for the right job . and under the circumstances reid is the best qualified person to perform the job.
I don't see anything wrong in appointing reid as bowling coach.

Absolutely India need a fast bowler coach from outside. It's ridiculous that India has not produced a single fast bowler (apart great Kapil) where there are billion people and the control board is richest in the world.

I disagree with the appointment of bowling coach
by Voosan Raj on Dec 05, 2003 03:07 AM

Its totaly absurd, I'm not sure which direction Indian cricket is headed. Never in the history of our cricket we had so many coaches and specialists, but is the team faring upto the expectations? I think its pathetic. One of the reasons to have Reid as the bowling coach was that he was Australian and he knows the conditions well. So what ? When Australia comes to India do they hire an Indian bowling or batting coach? Or when India goes to South Africa or West Indies or else where will they start hiring local bowling stars? This controversy gives another dimension to Wright's involvement in the team. An Indian ex-cricketer who played test had questioned what's he doing there frying eggs? I guess, it is a genuine question. Our batting is packed with stars and Wright doesn't need to give coaching tips for them, moreover we know where Ganguly went for lessons. So whats is really doing then? If he really is considered to be batting/fielding coach, does anyone remember India getting battered in NZ. Didn't we have a local guy coaching India then.Did he value add to our performance? The performance was one of the worst in recent times.

offcourse we need it
by machomaj222@rediffmail.com on Dec 04, 2003 09:21 PM

To exploit the foreign conditions specially we need a foreighn coach who has a commond on fast tracks even though we had grt bowlers but none of them were impressive on fast tracks and all were medium pacers not a real pacer, after retiring frm cricket kapil somehow wants to be known hence he is critisizing after all we indians always pull the legs of sucess instead of puhing it really its embarassing to c such comments frm former so called stars of indian cricket.

Foreign fast bowling coach
by TVSR MOHAN on Dec 04, 2003 07:23 PM

A fast bowling coach is essential now for our young bowlers. They can't bowl a decent line and length for 10 overs at a stretch!!! Coming to the issue of a foreign fast bowler it is not an issue. Fast bowling is not India's forte nor has it ever been. Our pitches scare away leading fast bowlers like Lillee, Hadlee, Imran Khan etc. who avoided Indian tours. India produces a fast bowler of truly international class once in a decade who is generally a naturally gifted bowler than a properly coached one. Kapil Dev is the best example. Tody's fast bowlers also attempt to bowl with inspiration rather than discipline. There is a need to learn the basics right and be disciplined in your approach. The recent series against Australia and New Zealand was a revelation. Youngsters like Bracken and Williams bowl with the same discipline as Darrel Tuffey does. What is needed now is bowling with discipline and variety like Shaun Pollock or Nathan Bracken. India is yet to produce a bowler like them. A big No to Indian coaches as they have not produced a genuine fast bowler so far. Let them teach how to avoid no balls & running on the danger area of the pitch during follow through.

There is no point in blaming the coach. All coach can give the same tips whether indian or foreign coach.. but the main things is that the bolwer's mind.. how he reads the batsman mind... how he can bowl to the perfection.. If bolwer continues to bowl in perfect line then batsman will automatically forced to commit the mistake and thats all..
