foreign bowling coach?
by Reetu Singh on Dec 03, 2003 01:20 AM

I wonder why we should play cricket at all if we do not have sufficient expertise in our country to train people? If we need a foreign coach, I suggest we rather give up representing India in cricket, internationally. Anyways, cricket is not our game, it was introduced by the British, and supposedly played by all British colonies. When will we come out of that slavish attitude and stop adoring CRICKET. For God's sake, put a full stop to it. It has been enough. when all the western countries are looking at India for outsourcing manpower, we are looking at foreign countries for outsourcing a cricket coach. This is the most ridiculous thing ever!!!! The rich guys in our country go to the doctors in USA or UK for treatment. Now, added to this is the fact that we are looking at foreign coach as well. Does this mean Indians are fit only for doing low paid jobs for the western companies? Are we not fit for training our own cricketers? Are we still slaves, and cannot do much for ourselves? Then let us all stop feeling happy over our growing and shining economy.

About a foreign bowling coach
by vamsi mohan kavuri on Dec 03, 2003 12:18 AM

I fell that india need a bowling coach, whether it is a foreign coach or indian coach it does not matter. Our bowlers always give away to many runs in both ODI's and in tests as well.So it is always good to have a bowling coach and a coach who identifies good bunch of fast bowlers.India needs one strong Fast bowler very badly.I hope that Bruce Reid might be a good coach.

Foreign coach and India

I believe that "desi coaches" are merely sycophants who generally indulge in politics and regionalism! It is beleived that John Wright once told Sachin to either report on time to a camp, or to forgo playing for India. Name one Indian coach who will place such a high value on team discipline and work ethic!

Former players placed very little emphasis on team discpline, work ethic and fitness. Leave them alone!

4 reasons why Reid is the choice

1) Trained coach.

2) Sucessful coaching record - Coached New Zealand bowlers on their last tour sucessfully.

We saw his chela /ward Bracken perform in India recently

3) Proven performer. I still remember him toying with the Indian line up. - More importantly, KNOWS Australian PITCHES. And knows whatever, weaknesses the Aussie bastmen have. (Come on, they must have some . At least the tailenders the Indians pacers can never prise off)

4) is a left hander.

No doubt he cant make miracles but IF HE CANT help no one else can.

WHY NOT KAPIL? SRINTAH OR AkRAM?

Kapil is a proven failure as a coach.

Akram has no coaching credentials. He is undoubtedly the greatest left hand pace bowler but he is no Imran Khan for grooming talent.

Srinath our lone fast bowler doesnt have a great record in Australia. Besides he has PRACTICALLY BEEN Sleeping and eating with Zaheer, nehra and Agrakar. If he had something to teach, the gentleman/team player he is, he would have done it by now.

KAPIL OF LATE IS BECOMING a BEDI.

(If he was jealous of Deep Drop Gupta or pitied Murli Karthik I would love him as much as I did in his playing days)

Why a foreign bowling coach

I think it is much necessary for the situation to appoint Reed as bowling coach.Reed will help our bowlers not only in the techniques but also in the attitude.that is the difference bewteen indian bowling coaches and foreign. In the past we had seen that our indian coaches lack positive attitude. There is no point in telling that we are not using the people in our own country.Be it be indian or foreigner we want results and we should develop a professional team.

India do need some valuable tips of a renowned foreign coach when they tour abroad. a) This is because our pace bowlers have performed too badly abroad. b) The length and pitch of pacemen's deliveries abroad, especially in pitches of India and South Africa is quite different and rookie persons to International Test arena like Zaheer Khan, Asish Nehra, Irfan Pathan, L. Balaji do get very good tips. The appointment of Bruce Reid is considered a very positive and radical thinking of Indian Cricketing fraternity. Kudoes to Team Management and Mr. Dalmiya.

Please keep it up.

Do we need a foreign bowling coach?
by R.Jayapaula on Dec 02, 2003 05:36 PM

Yes. A foreign coach, in this case an austrialian, would certainly do a world of good to our bowlers. The bowling coach would reveal the inherent weakness of the Australian batting lineup. Apart from this, he would also tell our batsmen how to cope with the pitches in Austrialia and fearsome deliveries of the Aussie pacemen.

On the whole it is a wise idea in having a foreign coach. I suggest for every tour overseas, we need to hire the local bowling coach for his useful inputs.

I am sure the team, with a foreign coach will deliver better results than without a foreign coach.
