Hey fools

It is wrongly said cricket is only played in 10 countries. Cricket is played in more than 100 countries, but the quality is not high that they are not permitted to play test cricket. Even in football there are more than 100 countries playing their too quality varies. Out these only 8 countries have won FIFA World Cup they Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina Uruguay, England, France, and Spain.

In cricket West Indies, India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England (20:20) have won World Cup. So the ration is 8:6 there is no much difference.

Kiddo.... In football the WC is played by 32 teams, and those 32 teams qualify by beating the other teams in their respective continent.

hey genius Murali:
cricket is the most laziest, corrupted and nth world game.
100 countries playing cricket. is it true?
cricket is surviving because of crazy people from India, Srilanka, Bangladesh and Pak. otherwise it might have forgotten by world. No other people like it.

u r wrong...Cricket has just eight big teams and all others are so low grade that u cant even compare...But in football 32 teams qualify for the world cup and out of which 20 are really good teams..In cricket SouthAfrica, England and nz have never won world cup but they are still big teams. So how can u take only world cup winning teams for football...It has around 20 great teams and other 12 are not very bad either..

Simply put....

Simply put - Tendulkar is the most popular sportsperson produced by India because cricket is unofficially deemed the `national game' of our country (sorry hockey!). But, Anand is the greatest sportsperson produced by India for all the reasons mentioned in the article and much more. He is a self-made champion who had inspired a generation of chess players.

Very well said. Anand has popularised the sport with his genius and inspired lakhs of people in our country. Unfortunately not many will understand this sport as it is not a spectator sport. Good luck Anand. Prove that we are as brainy as Russians or Europeans.

Totally agree with you Ramesh. Some people are more appreciated when their absence is felt. Hope Anand gets his dues while he is at it & thereafter.

Chess is brain game. In cricket if sachin is out for zero, if others play well we can win a game. Chess is a one man army and Anand is holding the record. Wish him all the success.

what comparison?
by balan r on Nov 09, 2013 03:12 PM

Stupidity and immaturity to compare Vishwanathan with Tendulkar. The sports they are affiliated are totally different and Chess is totally a brain related game which cannot be disputed by wise people.
Totally an unwarranted report.

cricket a national craze
by pradeep gupta on Nov 09, 2013 02:30 PM

Does it mean we stop thinking stop observing stop recognizing true worth or worth for what it is? Cricket was dying in India before Dalmia and company started marketing and packaging it better. Films like Dabangg seem to be very popular so maybe we should start giving them National awards. Popularity has to be accompanied with substance and cricket is played by few countries and as such the level of comparative competition is low.

He is obviously very good natured and has a well balanced personality but there is one more thing. If he had been a typical arrogant genius, he might not have been tolerated because he is not a Westerner. Anand surely knows this.

Sachin is a genius himself. He was indeed one of the greatest batsman in the world in the same category of Donald Bradman,Viv Richards and Brian Lara.

No need for anyone to underestimate him.

Vishy and Sachin are also good friends .

by pradeep gupta on Nov 09, 2013 01:57 PM

He is the most unbelievable sportsperson that India has produced by a long shot. A world champion in an individual sport for such a long period. Self motivated and selfnurtured an intelligent competitive person who has taken decisions himself to retain his competitiveness ...something which Sachin never had to do.
