cricket is mostly played by weak and corrupt sporting nations like india, pakistan, sri-lanka, bangladesh.. sachin is over hyped in india because most indians are popcorn like you and don't have brain to acknowledge vishy achievemnts.. 5 time world champion Anand can be compared with sachin only in country like india. chess played in 150 countries including strong sporting nations like china, russia, america..
Both guys represent different sports & have been competitive enough to be at the top of the word..Unlike Sachin, Anand did not have to deal with the expectations of a billion ordinary human...& that's why you can say he is more successful than Sachin....He, by being alone could go on & achieve what he wanted & his followers are not from the street & all of them are intellectuals..... no one bothers him if he gets out on the streets of Chennai..But Sachin has thrilled & entertained more than a billion of this country which always wanted to worship Heros because people of this country have always been betrayed by our political class...Sachin has travelled more & exhausted himslef more....Gireesh Kulkarni

He is an intellectiual who has brought fame and respect to the country from all over the world without any propping up by the advertising world, the media and the betting mafia.

Agreed. Very well said. Cricket is being played by just 10 countries out of 170(approximately).
It is very sad that our people and media are still crazy about IPL and cricket, even after our cricketers and team officials are caught for their different types of fixing matches. Our cricketers play IPL with all sorts of injury but they don't want to play for India. Only within INDIA, our cricketers can play some level(mostly captain). But outside of India, it is very horrible performance most of the time. They go just tour using Govt. money. In addition, they fight for captaincy after playing few years and do so much politics among themselves. just 10 countries are playing. So it is time to forget most corrupted and laziest game called as cricket and focus on other active and individual events rather than team events such as badminton, tennis, athletics, swimming etc., so that India could get as many as medals from Olympics and other international events.
