Good work Sushil.
Congratulations.
Hope we perform good in future.
Our starting itches of big stages looks is going away.It is high time that we should show in big stages like Olympics that we are good enough.China shows,if you want to be significant in world stage, should be a power house in economy, political and sports too.

If the standard of athletics have to improve, our athletes need to adapt to pace and agility which is important in sport.

Suuport from government
by Syz on Aug 12, 2012 07:40 PM  | Hide replies

When the India athletes achieve something in Olympic we congratulate them and criticize the government for proving poor support and complain about winning so little amount of medals compared to China. But when the Olympic is over and they come back, we all go back to our own work and nicely forget the event for the next four years. Why don't we keep up pressure on the government to force them improve the standards? That means Indian public in general don't care a bit. But if someone wins a medal, they feel very proud of it. But proud of what? What we have given to the athletes? They have almost zero training facilities in the country compared to cricket. If the general public really feel for them, then they need to put pressure on the government, starting at the local levels (state or district) improve the facilities so that young generation becomes interested in these sports. This can be done by forcing them to increase budget on facilities, foreign coaches and sending them other countries for track-and-field competitions more often. It is the duty of the Indian citizens to help these athletes and they have the power of doing so; just don't be silent spectators and clap each time they win, thats not going to help the country next time.

That is also right. But please let me know what kind of facilities do you require for sports like running events in athletics and also cycling where there are lot of medals which can be won.Athletics only requires the ground below whereas cycling require only a good racing cycle. But after PT Usha and Milkha singh I didn't hear of any athletes with serious potential and desire.Along with Govt. support individual desire is also important.

People without dream can not achieve anything. We have to dream and dream big.It was a dream of single man, that resulted in India having the largest grass root crude refinery in world.Your comment is hence wholly unfounded..

Reasonably good
by Hemanth kumar on Aug 12, 2012 07:31 PM

Overall, India's performance is reasonably good. These are the best Olympics in terms of medals tally and Sushil turned to be best Indiviual olympian for India. Male boxers perfomance is also good but unfair decisions are hurting. The biggest disappointment is from our Archery team. Let us not talk about Hockey. Not many young Indians are turning towards hockey now a days and its future looks dark. Let us hope that these 6 medals will boost the Indian Govt and corporate sectors to invest heavily on sports and provide right environment to make India a sporting nation.
