Very correct. Compare this great achievement with the likes of our cricketers. Time govt and the public give more attention to development of such sports instead of the useless cricket.

British PM said no to bollywood dance. When will our PM say no to british leftover lazy cricket?
We do Bandh, rallies, rail rokos etc for silly reasons. But we don't care for those who wins medals for our country. Why can't we do protests against the government neglect for the athletics in India? If we don't help them, do we have right to feel proud when they win? Their win is their own personal heroic struggle, we have no contribution to them.
Our government only respects cricket players while other sports persons have to struggle. We Indians are so senseless that we had amitabh bachan running with the olympic torch instead of giving the opportunity to a sports person.

Amitabh Bachan was invited by the IOC since they were unable to find any great sports personality in India(cricketers are not considered since cricket is a minor sport like golf).

Cricket has destroyed Indian sports. Government should look after only those sports which are played in Olympics.
His Silver Medal to be counted as a Gold Medal. His technique was excellent better than Japanese wresler. but he was sick before Final. IT IS HARD LUCK FOR US.
If we donot consider gold/silver/bronze classification,as per the total medal count,India stands at 35th position among 204 participant olympic committees.
If our boxers were not deprived of 2-3 more medals, our standing would have been even better.
For a country where 42% population still leaves below the poverty line and very low human development index, this achievement is encouraging and I hope it will give some sense to our government to invest more on sports and health.
British PM has said his country man "get rid of bollywood dance, and concentrate on sports" ! When shall our PM says"Get rid of british colonial lazy cricket, concentrate on olympic sports" ?
Mao_Zedong had said that cricket is like opium and it will destroy all other sports and he had banned cricket in China.Today China has 38 gold medals in 2012 olympics.I think,it will need another 50 years for us to reach that level.
Except few third world countries,no nations gives any value to cricket. So,let us develop our people in other sports also...

Nice analysis. But it would be much better if we help them by forcing the government to improve the standards. Can we do a Bandh for it?

Gold medals are the ones that really count. North Korea won 4 and South Africa won 3. Although India won 6 medals this time round 2008 results were better as India won a gold medal. even the official medals tally ranks the teams according to gold medals. Our boxers were deprived of atleast 2 to 3 medals that I fully agree. Cricket destroys all other sports I don't quite agree. Otherwise how could Australia and Great Britain do so well. I think it is the other way round. Because South asian countries are not so good in most popular sports cricket gets undue importance. With these olympics on I didn't bother to watch the sri Lanka and india series. If India start doing well in other popular sports like football, tennis , athletics etc most people will find these games more interesting than cricket. although some people will still have cricket as there favorite game.

We can not reach heights just by banning cricket or at least that is not the way! But easy money in cricket makes cricket itself ill! All this match fixing etc are all offshoots of mass marketing, corrumpt administration, Mafia-Bollywood-Cricket link and easy money! The over-dose of cricket should be avoided and people should avoid products endorsed by film actors and cricketers! Slowly they will find other marketable options.
Sports instead of Bollywood dance is applicable for even India! Most of the movies made do not make any sense, they are just doing invisible damage, and the mafia funding them are happy! Instead go and see a local sports event! That attitude change has to happen!

Sports culture has to spread to local level to each town and village. Even though we are over a billion, what percentage of it know say for example - swimming? We generally don't have a Sports culture.
