Why blame hockey players
by Maihoon Don on Aug 12, 2012 01:06 AM  | Hide replies

Tell me whow many of you play hockey at school or college level? I see only cricket being played and then you all blame Indian system for poor hockey.

To be also noted that if you remove that blue turf and replace it with grass, India and Pakistan will play the final. Europeans have hijacked the game from South Asia.

cost of sports complex
by sameer naik on Aug 11, 2012 10:50 PM

how much cost it will take to build sports complex for government without corruption??

sports complex must include 2 tennis court,4 badminton court, standard swimming pool 50mt 8 lane, one football ground, 4 table tennis, 1 complete gym , 400mt track for athletics with middle area for events like javelin, high jump, long jump, boxing and wrestling ring, shooting and archery hall.

since india got approx 600 districts. if 1 sports complex cost 80 crores then 600x80= 48000 crores.

if this 48000 crores was invested for facilties all over india rather than hosting 70000crores CWG games than was it more useful ??

not surprised
by DEEPAK CHAUDHARY on Aug 11, 2012 10:23 PM  | Hide replies

I do not follow hockey much, but am not surprised at the results. Watching at the matches, I was surprised at the blue field (was expecting green grass even if it is artificial).
How can India stand a chance, playing as they do on natural grass where the playing style is completely different. The few astroturf grounds that are there are mostly in the stadiums and they mostly remain showpieces without proper maintenance.
The game and its rules have been hijacked by the Europeans to suit their advantage. India will not be able to stand anywhere unless the ground and the training facilities are made world class.

your point is the game should be played on uneven grassy surfaces where the risk of injury is higher and the speeds can be much slower so that our slow unathletic players can compete. Actually cricket is like that. We have grassless dust bowl wickets in the subcontinent to suit our unathletic players. Moment they go outside the sub continent they get whipped left and right. We should host olympics in India and change the rules of every sport to suit our natural unathleticism.

Exactly, we should play in different surfaces like cricket and tennis. Just for your info it was called grass hockey.

Hic-key

Reservations from states required. The politics needs to go from selection - railways, punjab, harayana - They are all welcome when playing local hockey - for International level we need quality sportsmen - The talent is plenty - but nobody picks talent. The Womens gold wining hockey team will kick the arse out of our India team.

This is not an individual game like cricket to select the best player from each state and put them together and hope it will work wonders. The final score in cricket is a sum of individual contributions, so selection is easier. In hockey and football the team has to gel together, hence you find more players from best hockey playing teams. This is the best team Indian has now. We should stop bragging about a billion hearts beating and then everything will be allright.

Very well your "best team Indian" did now. 6 defeats out of 6 and most of them thrashings except for first and last match.

You can also argue that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. This team with a lot of mediocre players had too many weak links. But thats okay.... they were from "best hockey playing teams" even if stronger players are available in other teams.

Oh yeah and the main complaint of this team was they played like individuals instead of a team.

Finally for all the team argument - if you cannot play to your potential as an individual, the team will sffer.

Loosing vs Perfomance
by kkumar kumaran on Aug 11, 2012 10:10 PM  | Hide replies

Loosing 1-2 matches fine, clean wash means some thing serious. Hardwork with discpline always pays. Nothing is free in this world, one has to work for it. Team just played like our states fighting and not as country even in international matches. Team is made of 10 players and not by one, and lead by leader, all cannot be leaders. Watch Chak De movie, it depicts the same. Olympics, international sports are not for site seeing tour. We are carrying country flag. Why are our parents stronger than us, they did hardwork physically and mentally. Present generation india is full of lazy bumps.

by Chandran KR on Aug 11, 2012 09:51 PM

If we can put up with the present govt just because of we are a democracy (does it mean we can elect to be fleeced by the person of our choice) we can certainly accept the Olympics result. At least they tried.

And then they complain
by Paradox on Aug 11, 2012 09:47 PM  | Hide replies

From being the un-disputed world leaders, we are among the worst teams. And these guys keep complaining that cricket is given more importance.

Guess it's time to freeze this sport in India.. We have glorified it for no reason for the last 10 years.

Indians seem to have a sentimental attachment for England. This is where they prefer to get whitewashed in all games including cricket!
