Indians seem to have a sentimental attachment for England. This is where they prefer to get whitewashed in all games including cricket!

Not without a major overhaul. Starting with the coach, captain, senior players etc. Do not send a team if it is not 100% fit or with incomplete training. Do not waste tax payer's money.

If that was the case we never would have played 1983 world cup cricket

North and northwest part of India is ruining it as a whole.

The people from Punjab, Delhi, UP to be specific.

No new ideas from these old folks.

Its sad but true observation.

Genrally people from the capitals are the foolest.

hey the problem is more difficult to build a hockey team than a cricket team. In cricket the best player from each state can be put together to play in a team as ultimately in cricket it is your individual effort that counts more. The outcome in cricket is the sum of individual players but in hockey or football that is not the case. The present way of selecting teams should be done away with. To some extent this is being done so you find more players from Punjab, Delhi, UP, services or railways, etc. You need to gel and complement each other in a team sport.

Hockey is less played and followed in India than cricket.Even we are not best in cricket.Sports is always a team game.If you lack team spirit don be in game.Technique and innovation keep the spirits and energies high.We need wise people at top of any organisation. If Hockey still need to continue as national sports of India? Its time we seriously ask for performance from IHF or sports ministry or simply get them quit the posts.

Players are last to blame I know that.

Agreed because the Indian team we selected is the best we can managed to put together. But still cricket is not as big a team game as hockey or football so we need to change the way domestic tournaments are conducted and how teams are selected and once selected they should not be bothered about their work with railways or services. The cricketers don't even attend office.

These idiots keep on harping eight times Olympic champions. That's why these "champions" find it easy to lose all their games. They thought that hockey is won by golf scores!!!

I do not understand what coaching was done. The players do not bend body during trapping, do not look like forwards of hockey team.Right out and left out running in dummy area is of no use. The more you bend body, the more margin in dribbling and faster you dodge the opponent. Some old hockey players, such as MrAshok kumar, Mr Shahid, Mr Pragat singh, Mr Ajit Pal singh should give some basic lesson to these players.Simply running in the field is of no use.

That's a very good positive feedback. Hopefully the authorities will take note of this.

Coaching can be done only to those who can be coached. Indian hockey players are a bunch of dunces who cannot be coached. One may succeed in coaching the baboons better.

When young, our parents were not like now - they meant what they said. Fit for nothing comes to my mind - and that reflects our performance overall in this Olympics!

Change the surface
by Seshagiri Raghukumar on Aug 11, 2012 09:01 PM

Tennis is played on grass in Wimbledon; on clay in France and hard courts elsewhere. Each depending on local traditions, each favouring players with certain skills. Why should Astro Turf be the only surface? Why not grass, or as in most of India, plain hard ground? Hockey was hijacked by western countries through Astro Turf that favours only them. Why succumb to their manipulative tactics? India should reorganize international hockey by challenging them to play on other surfaces. We should start by inviting them to play international tournaments in India on grounds that we prepare. Our guys have great skills.
