Vijender a Boxing hero
by Prasad Kamath on Aug 07, 2012 12:54 PM

Now lets hope Mary Kom and Saina Inspire 1000s of girls to take up womens boxing and badminton respectively.. Indian needs Heroes in other sports and media and Adv(Multinational companies) plays a very important role for people to take up these sports.. Seating in home critizing the Indian sports people for not winning the medals is absolutely ridiculous.. there is no money in other sports.. as people explained above about infrastructure in hockey similarly in other sports also money needs to be brough it and Indian Corrupt govt. is also majorily resposible for not providing enough funding as well as infra strcutre.. for that matter looting exchecquers money during CWG scams..only if it was reinvested towards betterment of olympic sports!!!

what bite the dust ??
by ajeet gautam on Aug 07, 2012 12:48 PM

Vijender just lost by 4 points, first round was tied at 3-3. This is not biting the dust. He fought as well as he could. Rediff has lost its sense of reasoning these days.

A Matter of Appreciation
by Dulal Das on Aug 07, 2012 12:02 PM

Rajya Bardhan Rathode was bestowed lesser civilian award by GOI after winning a silver medal but a female athlete in spite of her poor show was bestowed higher civilian award. This is GOI's spirit.
Hype with Abhinav Bindra's gold medal was negligible compared with the hype of Tendulkar. This is our media's spirit. We the general people are sandwiched by these two giants.
Simply put we do not know how to applaud and appreciate real winners. One loss will not be able to do much impact if fail to learn the lesson. Let us admit that they have competed in Olympics while we are sitting idle and criticisng losers... This has to be stopped.

Disgraceful
by common man on Aug 07, 2012 12:00 PM  | Hide replies

Its disgraceful to say bites the dust as he has lost the match by respected margine of 4 pts only. The heading shows the culture of sports we have in our country. I think these 3-4 medal should be counted as 30 -40 medals looking at the facility and environment provided to our sports person compared to other countries.

bites the dust basically means he lost or he failed, there's nothing wrong in using that phrase.

This guy tried to say so much on cricket supporters in India. Bollywood and stardom has struck him deeply......! With the hype provided, nothing less than a silver was expected. Typical filmi character.
