This guy tried to say so much on cricket supporters in India. Bollywood and stardom has struck him deeply......! With the hype provided, nothing less than a silver was expected. Typical filmi character.

Mr Prasad, Our Hockey team has won Olympic gold many times, Has that inspired any Indians to join Hockey? We have the best tennis players, are we playing tennis? It's all depends on individual interest and not on someone's achievement.

Mr Sanjay, Hockey is a team sport, whereas Boxing is an individual sport. Hockey might not be famous in Gujarat, but just go and visit places like Coorg District in KA, Pune outskirts in MH, Punjab, Haryana, some parts of Delhi, Bhopal and Chennai..you will see hockey fanatics there, dreaming to play for India.

Between who are those so-called make-believe best tennis players? Its again an individual sport and Chennai's tennis academy boosts of many such aspiring tennis players. Same way, Boxing has become very popular in Haryana and rest of North India after Vijender's medal in 2008 and it would increase the competition level, thereby getting us better pugilists. Sitting in Gujarat, you may not know any other sport apart from cricket.

I am sorry because you dont understand what inspiring means..its not upto personal choice..FYI India had won hockey 8 olymics and thats not one team it inspired generations after generations(1930-1976)..UNTIL in 1983 Indian won the cricket world cup and thats what inspired Inidans to take up cricket beacuse it had money and fame mnedia also hyped cricket forgetting hockey..even sachins, dravids and gangulies always say that they wanted to play for india when they saw indian winning the world cup..for people to take up sports you need Heroes in those sports and also media support..and Vijender is a Hero..i can give such 1000s of example were heroes inspire a generation of people..

Yes. Viswanathan Anand broke the ice when he became the first GM from India and now we have more than 20 GMs. Also we have 6-7 players in top 100. This is what you call inspiration.

I guess, India & Pak dominance in the sported started diminishing from introduction of Astro-turfs... whish started in 80s if Iam not wrong.
They obviously need players with better stamina..

The Eurpoeans couldn't match the Indians and Pakistanis's technique. So they introduced speed and fitness into the game through astro-turf and now you can see who is dominating the game. Atleast Pakistan has a bronze medal from 1992 games. India has to go as back as 1972 games to take pride (do not count 1980 gold medal as a real achivement as it was played in a depleted pool with Spain being the only top class team apart from India).

Now lets hope Mary Kom and Saina Inspire 1000s of girls to take up womens boxing and badminton respectively.. Indian needs Heroes in other sports and media and Adv(Multinational companies) plays a very important role for people to take up these sports.. Seating in home critizing the Indian sports people for not winning the medals is absolutely ridiculous.. there is no money in other sports.. as people explained above about infrastructure in hockey similarly in other sports also money needs to be brough it and Indian Corrupt govt. is also majorily resposible for not providing enough funding as well as infra strcutre.. for that matter looting exchecquers money during CWG scams..only if it was reinvested towards betterment of olympic sports!!!

Why Chinese are way ahead of us
by S M on Aug 07, 2012 11:04 AM

In china there is a rule applicable for all sport person i.e. they can not accept any advertisement or participate in any program atleast 02 months before the sporting event. So that they can concentrate fully to the respective sport within that 02 months. And thus we can c the result. Will it happen in India. I really appreciate the decision taken by Saina Nehwal by refusing advertisement & concentrating fully on game.

Too much scene
by Sanjay Patel on Aug 07, 2012 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

This guy after winning the Bronze medal in last Olympic, he was flying and was too much on TV, Advt, Partying and so on.. Has he concentrated on his boxing, he would have won something. All sports person should learn from Sachin, although he does TV ads and others, he will be very humble in nature and will not hype for any wins. It's only Sachin who can be cool all the time. This guy deserve a loss for too much scene. Atleast try now to practice for the next olympic.

This was expected. All that media hype had went to his head and he was talking too much off late. Now it is Vijay Kumar's turn and in next Olympics he will be eliminated in the qualifier itself. Should we blame the players or the media?

Choclate faced ad model

Is the only way to describe this .... If he had spent more time practising and working out in the gym instead of showing his face in silly programs on ndtv and other ridiculous ads he might have improved

Thats the problem with our Indian people. After a short success, they never try again to retain that success. This guy is not worth to be in Olympics. And our Media is too much.
