Something drastically wrong with the referral system
by Maihoon Don on Mar 08, 2010 11:44 PM  | Hide replies

When umpires have ignored a call and play continues and then a goal is scored and then umpires calling for a referral for the play before the goal is just plain wrong.

You can't make a referral for a past faux pax of the umpire itself...this rule of disallowing the goal and reverting back to earlier stituation is flawed and needs to be amended. How can u disallow a goal which was scored fault-lessly?

Through the tournament it appeared that umpires were against India and trying their best to make decisions against them. I think Europeans have started getting scared coz Indians have started improving on turf.

Yes, they were against India. Even in India Spain match, they favored Spain in some decisions and against England too, a penalty corner was unnecessarily given to England and that was the decider.

The actual score should had been 4-2
by S Shrikanth on Mar 08, 2010 11:42 PM  | Hide replies

On wnat basis SA team asked for referral after 6 minutes when India had scored the goal to take 3-2 lead? Why the goal was dissallowed and SA were given Penalty corner instead.

It wasa clear case of partiality against India after they sacked Shivendra to benefit Australia and Spain. When Shivendra came back, the team fought very well against England. The conspiracy was to keep him out in this match also.

Hope Hockey India will put a protest against against such wrong things and FIH would correct it.

Hey man don't go for small things, see the big things we need to improve on. We cant do anything about umpiring, but we can certainly improve ourselves. I believe Dilip Tirkey is the best

good that tirkey is out...he was a waste and only relied on long shots...this new team just needs one good striker...

It is clear that the Europeans are getting scared of India's rising performance on turf..this scare showed in this tournament when umpires showed their bias against India..even in previous match the umpires were allowing Pakistan 2 penalty corners even when game was over so that pakistanis could hold south africa to a draw and move ahead of India...no worries Indian hockey is certainly on the rise again.

SPOT ON !!
Have you forgotten how the Aussie Chief ran in to cover for his team's dismal first outing by his amusing / pitiable & thoroughly UNJUSTIFIED ACTION in banning an Indian player. Note that Hockey India lacks the gumption to follow this up to a right & just conclusion.
Otherwise, the Tournament Director must explain his "UNILATERAL" action which happens to be against all norms and is "unprecedented". That the current tournament is being held in India & our crowds have seen the "bias" with their own eyes should only act as an INSPIRATION to our raw team to raise their game to a level where even banning half the team will not allow the Rondu Bhondu Aussies to put in a goal past India ! Honest to God, that is the day i am looking forward to... {ex-champ}

The best Indian player on view in this tournament was certainly Gurbaz Singh.

Well played

I believe, we played best hocke in astro turf. We are the giants in grass. But astro turf doesn't suit our play as you have to put more effort in astro-turf. India needs more grounds in astro-turf. District hockey is played in grass and muddy turf. There ball rolls of. In astro turf, the ball stops. THIS IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. COME ON ADMINISTRATORS, DO SOMETHING

Indians are only one small step behind other teams
by sanjeev suri on Mar 08, 2010 11:40 PM

All our team needs to do is release the ball early instead of showing off their dribbling prowess.
350 minutes of video over the last few days will confirm my contention that this Indian team dominated whenever it relied on short , quick passing & lost control only while trying to [excessively] dribble past the opponents !

One small "correction" & you can become Number One - try and give it ample thought ! You HAVE all the other necessary skills... {ex-champ}

Well Played INDIA
by Shankar on Mar 08, 2010 11:36 PM

I think India played well in this tournament. Just take a reason that half the players are new to International arena. You cant win with novices in your side at this level. Add to this the political drama.
But one thing, Indian players showed steel in every match except agains spain. We were our old style lethargic best against spain. But one can excuse as everyone has an off day. I believe our attack is good. Defence is weakest. Also we need two good drag flickers other than Sandeep and Arjun Halappa.
LET U AIM FOR OLYMPICS AND NEXT WORLD CUP NOW.
COME ON INDIA, SUPPORT OUR TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Umpires are Anti-Indian BUT Indians are DUMB
by sanjeev suri on Mar 08, 2010 11:29 PM  | Hide replies

Re. the 45th minute dispute, the replay also suggested that a South African forward tried to play for "advantage" but lost possession; & it was only on second thoughts that their protest ensued.
It is strange that none of the Indian players appeared to point this out to the umpires even as they could also be seen contesting the umpire's belated decision on referral.
Having played hockey, i am certain that once "advantage" has been applied, any earlier foul can not be awarded.

No hope

When India lost 2nd & 3rd match I thought that due to some reason India lost badly considering performance shown in the 1st match. Today I think India is the worst team. No stopping capability, wrong pass, …. They have no control on ball. Only dribbling dribbling dribbling. Their aim seems to be limited in defeat of Pakistan only, no more they r expecting. Nothing will happen with this team, No hope.

This shows .. when India plays against other countries we play only with brain .. when we play against PAK we play with brain and heart !!!

So much is the pain and sorrow inflicted in the heart of indians by this beastly neighbour

Let us please avoid being ABSURD ! There is hardly anything "beastly" about majority of Pakistanis; it is only that a small section of the population there also insists on behaving like [or doing] what Shiv Sena, Maoists & Ranbir Sena etc. are doing on our side of the border.

I am 99.85% sure that Indian Prince is a juvenile born in post-Nehru India and his mention of "the pain and sorrow inflicted in the heart of ndians" is merely hearsay !!
Let us dump Hockey for now and discuss our attitude towards Pakistan instead... Aman Ki Asha initiative by The Times of India is what holds me in a trance these days. Wish we can some day have an Asian Union just like the European Union -and a common Rupee for all the seven countries here. Comments invited...

If Indian team remains their attribute within that only, what refrains them to play with other countries at the same attitude?

Matter is not related to Pakistan. It is a case of attribution & contribution of Indian team towards 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th place.

put yourself in their shoes buddy...what all they have gone through in past couple of months particularly...kind of support (or rather lack of it), kind of infrastructure (or rather lack of it), kind of motivation (or rather lack of it) and the second rung importance mooted to this game..and then u will realize what they have achieved is good.. definitely we should not stop and should not be satisfied..but to say that they are the worst teams - is a bit of exaggeration...remember - ROME was not built in a day...so hold on and wait - its improving and gonna improve further...
