No sense by criticizing government or others. We have to blame ourselves. We people are not interested in Hockey or other sports except cricket. Player’s salary depends upon the income of the concerned boards. If we people show interest in Hockey & other sports obviously the income increases, then the players can be paid more than they expect. SO IT’S ALL UPTO TO WE PEOPLE TO ENCOURAGE OTHER SPORTS ALSO

require the support of BCCI
by abbu on Jan 11, 2010 12:16 PM

for BCCI this amount is just like a drop in an ocean..usually cricketers talk in millions and billions.. wer as for these hocky players they are still in thousands..so request the BCCI to support these hockey players..you can get this amount if you give tender saying "Ads space available on Cricketrs undergarments" i think u;ll get millions maybe billions frm this.

while agreeing that the players should be paid their dues, it is also time that the players do some hardwork to earn. We are now forced to fight to qualify in major tournament like olympics world cup, etc so why blame others. So far hockey India is adept at finding reasons for losses/failures.

What is Indian Cricket's glory other than 1982 world cup victory. Now they are even either loosing to Bangladesh or sweating to win over them.So for the last 25 yrs cricket has not borught any glory for the NAtion except to cricket players

Any sporting association should be headed by a sportsman in the
by SURYAPRAKASH TATA on Jan 11, 2010 12:10 PM

to me govt of india should strictly pass a bill ensuring that sportsman alone run sports bodies so that all these games will end. none of the sports bodies in india were headed by a genuine veteran sports persons. for examples sharad pawar(played 200 tests and 500 one dayers for india), ipl(modi), veteran of cricket, then gills, singhs etc for hockey and so on. there should be a crieteria for example to become icc precident at least represente for any of the nation for 2 world cups and certain number of all format cricket games.

Helping hockey does not mean blaming cricket....
by NashikMarathi on Jan 11, 2010 12:04 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket does not owe anything to hockey just as cricket in England does not owe anything to English football or Baseball owes nothing to American football.

The validity of hockey grievances should be judged on their own merits.

These sports involving a batter and bowler be they cricket or baseball are insanely popular be they in India or America. However this is a passion of the people and there is nothing logical about a passion.

Anyway bringing cricket into a hockey discussion is simply futile. India may owe hockey a lot but cricket owes hockey nothing.

I agree, but then somebody like Jagmohan Dalmia should be made Prez of HI for next five years not only to make a good team but also to make this game popular among the masses and bring good sponsers for various tournaments. Dalmia is a good choice as he never dribbled a hockey ball even as an administrator and hence he will bring good veteran players to coach school level, college level and national teams. Will people like Gills, Singhs, Mattos leave the scene for the betterment of Hockey in India and elect Dalmia?

It is an option.

I personally think that baseball and cricket are very suitable for TV. The action is limited to the pitch and the fast action like catches, runs etc can be covered in slow mo between balls/pitches.

Ice hockey is more successful than field hockey but still less than basketball in the US. Mind you the stadia for ice hockey and basketball are same. However on TV for "me" it is hard to follow that ice hockey puck compared with the much larger basketball. Ice hockey tried that "cometized" puck some years ago......

Similarly the field hockey ball is hard to follow compared to a soccer ball on a roughly similar field on television.

It is all about television and some sports are more suited to TV than others.

Exactly! If anyone is to be blamed, it is the aam admi for promoting some sport and ignoring the other. Justice should start from our home. We get what we deserve.

Why are Players taken for Granted?
by Rockey Fox on Jan 11, 2010 12:03 PM

Will HI or for that matter any sports body hold a basic meeting without Mineral water, Tea, Biscuits, etc why is it that the Players have to stoop to the level of revolt to ask for BASIC Food, Comfortable Accomodation & Travel and Payment of peanut allowances in time. Other than BCCI it is almost same with all sports bodies in the country,,,, Or else only people like Abhinav Bhindra (I have full respect & regard for him) who can afford to foot the cost of their own training are able to make it,,,, A real shame to our sports loving country,,,

by Dev o on Jan 11, 2010 12:01 PM

Mr Narender Batra, who was also former Vice President of IHF who always stood for his own ambitions and eyeing for secretaryship of Hockey India in the forthcoming election. So naturally he is less interseted in Hockey Players food and remunerations. He is busy with playing election politics.
LET BATRA'S AND KALMADI'S WIN ELECTIONS NOT WORLDCUPS .
LONG LIVE POLITICS OF KALMADI,A.K.MATTOO AND BATRA IN HOCKEY INDIA
