is to run a 2-minute check in passport office to check his current status. BTW, even if he were a Spanish nationality, what's wrong in giving a honorary doctorate to him? He's not going to apply for a lecturer's job in a government university.

For People like Sonia , even though she was not ready to accept Indian nationality for 14 years, these congress chamchas ready to give Bharath Ratna,Recomondation for Nobel prize, on the other hand for our nationalist these junk congis asks questions and insult. How this sibal can say there is no such issue? liar. Can he punish those guilty (bearucrats) who created this controversy? Mr sibal, this is not over. U must punish those guilty. Only then, the issue will be over.
if the person is a resdent indian then it could have been a mistake. i dont find anything wrong to ask for a passport copy of an NRI VIP to give a honorary doctorate. i think they are making big issue out of a small incident.
Re: is it wrong to ask for VIP's ID's
by Abhay Nigam on Aug 24, 2010 09:02 PM
They should have asked before giving him Padma Vibhusha, padma bhushan, Rajiv Gnadhi Khel Ratna award etc etc. Not Now. Also NRI itself means Indian. Holding Indian passport itself is valid proof of Indian nationality but HRD ministry was not satisfied even with his passport copy faxed to them by his wife. Better they go and check Sonia Gandhi's Nationality first.

Indian passport isn't issued to non-indian citizens. But, birth certificate can be issued to anyone who was born in India, but grows-in/adopts citizenship of another country.
Re: Re: Re: is it wrong to ask for VIP's ID's
by Setu Madhavan on Aug 25, 2010 12:37 AM
YOu obviously have no clue about 'citizenship'. If a person has a birth certificate that says 'born in Pakistan' but has a passport issued by Govt of India, that person is an Indian citizen.
If a person does NOT have a birth certificate, the govt of India can still go ahead and issue a passport. the person is an indian citizen by virtue of that Passport.
All the Bangladeshi illegal migrants, who get fake Voter ID cards and then go and bribe and apply for passport in MUmbai passport office, automatically are Indian citizens after they get their passport.
A passport may be a document to let you move from country to country, but it is the universally acknowledged document proving citizenship. A 'certifiate of citizenship' may be issued for individuals taking up a new citizenship. Even so the passport is the readily accpeted document proving citizenship.

Valid passport is valid proof to be an Indian. You can born anywhere in world but if you migrate to india and take Indian citizenship, than only you can get Indian passport. So Passport is valid document

Gac, 1. So how come Govt of India didnt ask for Anand's passport before giving him his Padma Bhushan all other Bhushans?
2. Honorary degrees are awarded to foreign citizens as well. So why this special treatement for Anand?
Re: is it wrong to ask for VIP's ID's
by Setu Madhavan on Aug 25, 2010 12:33 AM
friend, Honorary degrees have been awarded to foreigners, both by INdian and foregin universities.
Sibal the fool went overboard, and began seeing demons that dont exist. First why is a Union minister of INdia even spending time bothering with such things. Isnt he supposed to be spending days and night wondering how to build schools in all villages of India?

It would have been a small incident had Anand been seeking something. In this case, you want to award him of Doctorate and then ask him whether he is Indian or not..What Anand has simple said "GO To hell and keep your Dr shit with you".
Re: Re: is it wrong to ask for VIP's ID's
by gac on Aug 24, 2010 09:07 PM
@amit srivastav, University of Hyderabad wanted to give the doctorate, for which you have crtain formalities along with documentations which has to be followed. if anand feels too much for giving his passport copy, he should have said "GO To hell and keep your Dr shit with you" not going public.

Inder, People like gac think like the Sibals. They create problems where none exists.
Its an open and shut case. Sibal made a fool out of himself, as he does from time to time.
and morons like gac will try to defend sibalji on even more stupid ground. LOL

lot of Indians hold dual citizenship also. Still they are INDIANS FIRST ALWAYS. PATRIOTISM COMES FROM INSIDE NOT BY SHOW OFF

does India still lives in a slavery VIP culture? VIP's will be void of all systems and process, are they beyond everything just because they are famous?

issue is not what u blabbering.. buerocracy doubted Anand's Nationality.. educate urself abt the topic before u debate.. atleast read the article properly..
In this article they wrote abt how he played 39 opponents at a time.. there is different article abt Nationality issue..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: is it wrong to ask for VIP's ID's

@mmspm, i think you have eye sight problem for not to see about the issue in this article. or u are the one who is blabbering.
Everytime our politicians and bureaucrats make a blooper, one wonders if things can get worse! And this species of vermin being so ingenious, they ensure that things do!! For these objects of disdain, there is always something to keep them in the news - if its greed and corruption one day, it is their servitude to their political masters the other, or their resort to rabid pseudo-secularism the next, and now it is a shameless exhibition of lack of culture and courtesy to one who has given India a (so rare!)place at the pinnacle of sporting honour! Was Anand's citizenship ever in doubt, or was it some third-grade babu in HRD wanting to prove his worth to his Godman, the Minister, of how diligent he is in his job? The least the Minister can do to repair this gigantic faux pas is to show the fellow the door out, unless he has something going for him too, in the bargain. It is just as well that Anand has refused, as any self respecting Indian would. After this, I wouldn't be surprised if Anand indeed takes up Spanish citizenship.. I am sure he will be greatly celebrated there by the officialdom, which in India, seems to have all its intelligence in its ass!

You ahve clearly said ministers are north Insdian and implied that Anand is South Indian. See, so there is indeed confusion with nationality :-)
