The question probably arose
by iota on Aug 24, 2010 10:05 PM  | Hide replies

because Anand spends a lot of time in Spain...for many years now.

BUT - for awarding these doctorates aren't all recipients asked for nationality proof, i am sure they would not single out Anand?

So if some one spends time in a different country then you question their nationality???? Man when did rule come-in. Now I understand why most con-gress slaves think Son!a is an Inidan citizen

he is taying in spain.. not spending time there. i am not a fan of sonia, but unnecssarily draging her name into everything is only giving her more credits. you seems to be blank on NRE, NRI concept. first do your homework and then open your mouth and a$$

NRE NRI concept has ZERO to do with this. Please read up before you talk nonsense.

Even if Anand is an NRE or NRI, he is still an INdian citizen!

Honorary degrees have been awarded to foreign nationals not only by INdian universities but by universities all across the world.

@aaaa, there are chances for a person staying abroad to have dual citizenship. and you need to give certain documents to get doctorate.

LOL..firstly, even if a person has dual or three or four citizenships, the person still is a citizen of India (btw the dual citizenship concept is still not implemnted in India. Anand is an Indian citizen. period.)

Second, an HONOURARY degree needs no documents. It has been awarded to people from abroad as well. Universities world wide confer honourary degrees.

Sibal screwed up. Plain and simple. Like he has been from time to time.

It is a common practice to award any distinct personality with an honorary D.Lit. In the past this honour has been conferred to even foreign nationalities. Other universities in abroad also confer similar honours to international personalities.

Therefore the logic of checking or proving the nationality is bizarre. It must be the handiwork of some illiterate quota-based appointed Govt servant who has zero GK.

Anand has been bringing laurels to this country for many years now. Just because he stays in spain, nobody should question his nationality unless he/she is a born idiot. Anand can be an NRI, but his nationality remains Indian.

If Anand wants to live in India or Uganda, it is his choice. Dont worry about him trying to get dual citizenship - the concept of Dual citizenship is not available to indian citizens, as Indian govt has been sleeping on this proposal. So you can rest easy.

If Anand chooses to take Spanish citizenship, it again is his choice. Dont lose sleep over it.

About your question, 'India is so bad or what'? Well UNDP states that 8 states of north India have more people living under pathetic poverty worse than 25 poorest nations of AFrica. That doesnt speak very highly about India being so great - after 60 years of Independence. Transparency Internattional ranks india at the bottom in the list of least corrupt countries.

If you go around the world, it is diffiult to refuse accepting that India is not the best place. We can call it best out of patriotism, but at some point we got to accept facts.

I can keep claiming that India wins all the gold medals in olympics, but that wouldnt make the olympics awareda all gold medals to India. Would it?

But since no one awards gold medals for development we can keep claiming we are the best. No one will object. So yes, you are right, keep claiming we are the best nation.

Anand lives in Spain as it is convenient location for travel and living, so he can stay current with Chess - most "Seconds" i.e. top chess gurus, trainers are residing in and near that part of the world. These "seconds" are very expensive - you need to learn how Chess is played by the masters.
This is a stressful game and he has found a way to go on with it.

He is NRI so what? HOnorary degrees are awarded to foreign citizens as well. So why wont they award it to a citizen like Anand?

YOu will soon see that Sibal ji will award the degree without following any additional procedure. That will shut you up.

For your kind information, there is no separate procedures for NRIs. This is an honour and any NRI is equally qualified to receive it as a domestic Indian.

As expected, he was lightning fast.
Hope people understand that Grandmasters play Chess at a totally different level. And this is the reigning world champion.

The guy who forced a draw against this kind of player, T Srikar needs to be groomed.

Share your view. Leaders who don't know how to work with our distinguished citizens should not hold ministry positions.

This is a stressful game and he has found a way to go on with it. He has to be respected instead of being cross-questioned, even after his wife faxed all the passport papers.

The real story behind the screen goes like this
During last election Congress offered him Rajyasabha seat and asked him to campaign for Congress. Anand polytely refused both. Since congress can not do anything with his game as he is playing on his own they took this opportunity to screw him,

is to run a 2-minute check in passport office to check his current status. BTW, even if he were a Spanish nationality, what's wrong in giving a honorary doctorate to him? He's not going to apply for a lecturer's job in a government university.
