Roger Federer

I love Tennis and that is why I love Federer. I had been watching tennis for the past 20 years.FEDERER is TENNIS personified. But he is HUMAN too and he proved it to us time and again.HE is a LEGEND. And for me it does not matter if Federer Wins or Loses. Its sheer pleasure just watching him on court. No one ever played with such grace, such symphonic motions on court.

a champion, legend in the making....

forget federer, forget nadal...here is the new champion and a legend in the making....juan martin del potro....

he has traits of both federer (the cool with which he faces, is a decent mover on court and plays well at net too, brilliant serve) and nadal (ferocious groundstrokes, brute power and what not...)

with age, he will definitely improve his game further and be a force to be reckoned with for long time coming...

Don't jump on the bandwagon too soon. He's a talented guy but whether he will live up to it remains to be seen. Next year should give us some ideas.

yeah i know that i am making claims too soon....

but that is not without any reason....

delpo has already displayed his consistency at the top level ever since he got going mid season last year to win 4 consecutive tournaments....and his run has improved ever since...he has not flashed onto the stage with brilliant performance in just one or two tournaments, but has built upon his steady results over the last few years....

that shows in his year-end rankings, which has improved for each of the last 4 years...

the most important thing that separates him from, say a guy like murray was evident if we compare that last 2 us open finals....

murray has repeatedly shown that he doesn't have it in him to get the best out of him in big stages...he shows he hasn't got the nerves for getting through tough matches....although he is a very talented player....

and how superbly delpo handled the situation last night, huh?? he was nervous in intial stages of match (as any first time GS finalist would be), but hung on in there....and boy, did he come into his own in the final two sets, and that too against a guy like federer??...that's what marks champions....

i hope he proves me right in years to come....

To bounce, you need knees. Hope the defending Australian Open Champion's knees mend enough for him to bounce on all types of courts!

GREAT
by madanmohan siddhanthi on Sep 15, 2009 02:52 PM

It is always nicw to see new palyers winning .Federer Great Cahampion of all time has become too sterio typed and it is good to see some one beating him .The onlyissue is whether they can do it consistently ,Which is the hall mark of Federers game . We very rarely see such consistence high performance .

FEDERER WAS COOL !
by bob dsouza on Sep 15, 2009 01:38 PM

Federer didnt take his chances in the 2nd and 4th sets and didnt want the title so bad as he wanted the French. He has had a great year and u could see he was content. He lacked the killer instinct surely in this match but in all fairness he is human after all.He has had a great year and seemed quite content in the end coming 2nd this time around

Yesterday, when I said that Federer would need luck on his side to hold his own against the in-form Del Potro, I was snubbed by Prof Vasudevan.
As it happened, Del Potro did not need any luck to beat Federer. He did it by playing a smrter game.

DP had luck against Federer. Federer didn't close out the second set and his serve was misfiring. Good on DP to make best use of his chances. The thing is that DP played incredible against Nadal and Federer. Nadal got hammered while Federer pushed him to 5 sets even though he is 8 yrs older and not playing his best. Also DP had a little bit more time to recover from his semifinal match.

I was waiting for your post. I again object to your use of the word luck for Federer. Federer does not need luck as he is an outstanding Tennis player. It is the others who need luck against him to win. Del Potro played an oustanding game and won. But, I can use the word `luck' for him also - after all Federer was serving at 5-4 in the second set for a two set lead. One can say that Del Potro was lucky that Federer's Service and forehand (his main strengths) completely deserted him on important occasions in the match. Del Potro was lucky that Federer had 22 break points against him, but his conversion rate was poor. The fact is, both players did not need any luck. They played outstanding Tennis and the better player on the day won. I said the same thing yesterday also - that the better player on the day will win and that is what happened. By using the words `luck', Nadal and Murray were not there etc. etc. whenever Federer comes up, we are belittling a great Champion. People talk of Nadal not because of his grandslam wins, but more because of his achievements against Federer. People talk of Andy Murray even before he has won a single grandslam, because he has a positive record against Federer. And now, they will talk of Del Potro also in the same breath, because he beat the great Federer in the final. This shows the greatness of Federer and not of the others. There is no place for luck here. Patilji you may like Nadal, but have some respect for Federer!

Nadal is in Buzz b'coz he can beat them by his game though missing Powerful Service like Fedex/Potro/Roddick/etc. has.

There is no ther player in the past or will there be in future who has the consistency of top performance like Federer . I am always in for the suffragate .Playing against Federer others are all suffer . His winning has become a habit and at times sterio type so would love to see new winners.
