Yes you said exactly right but the reality is that Rog got his variety after so many years so we cant right away say that they cant match him but it will take time.Who knew that in the beginning that Rog will breeze past Pete.

A Great Match
by Ayaskant Swain on Sep 15, 2009 11:50 AM  | Hide replies

It was just a great match to see for the tennis lovers. Kudos to Del Potro who is only of age 20 & came back oustandingly after losing the 1st set. He is cool & does not seem
arrogant like Nadal. I dont know why some people in this group are condeming Fdex for his crying. After all its the emotion which many players cannot control about the result be it a win or loss at the game's highest level. Del potro also cried after winning yesterday. Whats the harm in that? Unlike Soderling or Serena Williams Roger does not break or throw his racket on the court if he loses or misses a crusial point. Federer is a genius & the greatest ever player to play the game. Its a prvilage to watch his game. What can more be expected from a man who has won Wimbledon & US Open 5 times in a row apart from other Grand Slams...!!!

Federer did not cry yesterday at all.....he took it with poise and grace and even though he was hurting inside, he looked determined to come back and win the Australian Open.........

I think he was disappointed obviously but I don't think it will bother him all that much. He knows he can't win everything. He achieved great stuff this season. He can take a loss just fine. If this happened last year, he probably would have been devastated...not this time though..

Del Potro wins US open
by mg on Sep 15, 2009 11:39 AM

It was good to see roger graceful and appreciative of his opponent even in his defeat.
He knows the monkey was off his back once he had conquered the ever elusive french open and on top of that to become highest gs titles holder would have slowed him a little bit.

Still Del Potro is a rising star and sure can beat Nadal's record of grand slam titles with his age being only 20yrs and some more prime years of game in him.

Federer looked Over confident in 3rd and 4th Set -as if Title is in his Pocket, looked Casual as well in 4th Set, which he lost. But full Credit to Del Potro for glorious Victory.
beating Nadal, And Federer back to back is a great/rare feat. Congrats !! Del.Potro

Good that Fed didn't cry..
by Shankar Nag on Sep 15, 2009 11:12 AM  | Hide replies

Good to see Fed didn't weep like a school girl as he did in this year Aus open. Del is quite amazing. He has the game. He doesn't have the agility though.
Fed's crown is definitely under threat. He lost Australian, he was almost beaten in French by Del and had a close shave in Wimbledon as well.
However I don't know if Del can maintain this momentum. He should not become 'one match wonder' many other upstarts.

Fed doesn't need to cry. He has achieved everything he wanted to in tennis. Even if he doesn't win any more tennis matches, he is still the greatest ever. People keep harping about his loss but the fact is that federer who is 8 years older to del potro and didn't have a good serving day took him to five sets while Nadal was hammered. Nadal cannot play a HC game so he is much more susceptible to losses than federer.

Roger is nodoubt the greatest! But, crying after losing is cheap and shows the weakness (Everyone cries after winning! That's fine!). No wonder, in future, Fed has to work harder to earn his crowns. This time Nadal lost due to lack of fitness. Once, he is back to his normal, Fed will have no chances.

human emotions should never be restrained !
Why do you think crying after loosing is cheap and crying after winning is good?
Yes, if one looses temper after getting defeat that's called cheap and if one just cries after battling very hard and find himself/herself at loosing end then it's not his/her fault it's definitely human emotions (after-all humans are not supposed to be calculative and can declare in advance how will they behave like humanoids/robots)

everybody cries after winning...thats not the point. They cry after losing as well...just not in public...AO it happened in public...tough for him...but fed is not gonna go back and cry in the locker room for this one. He'll go home and see his baby girls and forget all about the match.

Frankly, I'm glad DP beat him here rather than at the FO. I wouldn't trade that win for anything.

Nadal lost not because of fitness but because his HC game is not the best. Nadal can always be beaten by a good player on a HC no matter how fit he is. Rafa is king only on clay. Evry other surface you can beat him if you play well.

Appreciate the Sport

Guys lets just appreciate the sport and the sportsmen who fight it out for 4 hours on the court. Irrespective of who wins, every player steps on the court with a desire to win. So instead of using this forum to point fingers or compare players lets just appreciate the sport. Both DelPotro and FedEx gave us a an exhibition but in the end DelPotro emerged as the better player.

Very well put!
The players who reach the finals after toiling for 2 weeks are the greatest athletes of the tour. 5 setters in grand slam finals is rarety. This trend only started in recent years when the 'Fed- Nadal' rivalry intensified! This is good for Tennis world.
