no...DP played well...he's a young chap who gave Nadal the worst defeat in a gslam and then played a brilliant 5 set final to take out Roger. He did have some luck cause Roger's serve wasn't firing but he took advantage of it. Good for him. Roger was due a loss here anyway...he would have lost next year if not this. But the best thing is that Del Potro got a slam before Murray...haha... in his face!!!!

U need such 4-5 players for competitive tennis
by Kotadia Mahendra on Sep 15, 2009 09:46 AM  | Hide replies

With Dal Petro winning US open, there is somewhat end to an era where u will have finals between nadal and federer only. But to keep alive tennis, u need 4-5 players who can play same level of tennis and can beat each other so that in their encounters u r never sure who will win and excitement of tennis match remains.. such was scenario when sampras, mcneroe, steffen edburg, boris becker, agassi played tennis and at that time tennis was very interesting. so very excited to see such outcome in tennis

Federer dominated not because his opponents were not good, but because he (Federer) was exceptional. He dominated for 5 of the last six years from 2004 to 2009 (2008 was certainly Nadal's year, though Federer reached three of the four grandslam finals). During the same period, Nadal completely dominated the clay court season. They both dominated because they were exceptional. Now Nadal is plagued by injuries (he failed to take care of his body by punishing it on the clay courts of Europe) and father age is slowly but steadily catching up with Federer. This is the right time for new talent to flourish. Djokovic was expected to do well after his 2008 Australian Open triumph, but failed to grab the opportunity. The year 2009 was expected to be that of Murray, but he fared miserably. Del Potro improved slowly but steadily and it was fascinating to see him beat both Nadal and Federer at US Open. Where others hit their forehand, Del Potro slaps them. And what a slap he gave in the finals! Federer's 1st serve and his forehand deserted him at crucial times in the finals and it was working like a dream for Del Potro. He was also not afraid to come to the Net. Exciting times ahead for Tennis fans indeed in the coming year!

i don't think it's going to take that long for that trend to come back again. In addition to Federer, Nadal n Del Potro we also have Andy Murray who's coming up quite fast n players like Gonzalez, Tsonga, who have the talent to do well...

As a Nadal fan m seriously delighted that Federer lost ..

Nadal needs to improve his service yaar, this is one area where he can improve and he can almost become unbeatable.

It was sad to see Nadal losing in such a fashion to Del Potro.

The Party came early for Del Potro
by prakash mohanasundaram on Sep 15, 2009 09:32 AM

Del Potro was tipped to ge a Grand Slam potential since his breakthrough year 2007. Hes got talent and the attitude is right. Many predicted that 2010 would see the real potential in Del Potro emerge. But the young Argentine made it big at USopen 2009. Grt job. He has been the best among players of his batch that includes - Ernsts Gulbis, Marin Cilic, Evgeny Korolev etc. Vamos Del Potro!!

I don't get it...
are you trying to say that this loss somehow diminishes federer's greatness.
dude - if that's the case, you need some serious # of excuses to diminish his stature..
in 25 years from now - no one will talk about his record against nadal. Even if he stops playing today - what will remain is the legend of a man who was the #1 for longest # of weeks, 15 time grans slam champion, 22 consecutive semifinals and more.

Like your name, youe thoughts are random and illogical.I didn't say anyhing to take any credit away from Fedex. All I said is that his losses should be taken in the right stride, instead of making lame excuses when he loses. You are maybe not aware there is a clone who uses my username and keeps making silly excuses when Fedex loses to Nadal.Go lecture him to give credit to Nadal, another great champion like Fedex.

Some exceptional achievements of Federer:

1. 22 Consecutive semi-finals in grandslams since 2004. The next best is 10 of Lendl and Sampras can boast just 3!
2. 25 consecutive wins in finals of tournaments. I do not have the figures of the next best!
3. 22 Grandslam finals (next best is Lendl's 19), 15 grandslam titles.
One can go on and on, but the above is enough just to show what a great Grandslam Champion he is. He does not excuses. It is only for ordinary mortals!

Wait for the excuses from my clone!

Now get ready to listen to the excuses to explain Fedex's loss1)He was not fit 2)He was disturbed by his children's constant crying 3)Del Potro's win was a fluke 4)Some close calls went against him 5)Del Potro only has physical game, he will not win any more GS titles (later my clone will modify what he said to add 2-3 more titles)....
