Well done Mallya!

I totally agree with him. I am sure 95% of Indians dont even know about F1. So how can India produce best F1 drivers? Only after Force India joined F1, our all Indian news papers and TV news channels have started to discuss F1. it will take decades to produce a genuinly good driver from India to drive in F1.

even 5 percent in india means about 60 million people. That is more than the population of many European countries.

It's an irony that we can't find anyone out of those 60 million people to compete in F1 yet. We have to accept the facts, whether it's bitter or not. Sometimes truth will hurt!

Why soo much Buzz about Chandok
by mihir acharya on Sep 15, 2009 09:57 AM

FYI..
Chandok is expecting the Drivers seat in F1, but on what basis.. He has not even had a Podium finish in A1 Grand Prix where all cars had same power, plus his performance in GP2 is bad.
so what is all the buzz about an undeserving driver like Chandok..
let him prove his mettle and then demand an F1 seat.

I even accept Mallya's stmnt. No Indian is fit to drive F1. dats vry very much true.even wen Micheal Schumaker is from Germany he drives his Italy brand Ferrari wich is rival to his home produced Mclaren. Its no shame to tell No Indian is fit to drive F1. Bt its a bitter truth. I accept Mallya stmnt.

Hats off to Vijay Mallya
by sudhir dhar on Sep 15, 2009 09:10 AM  | Hide replies

He is successful. He is smart. He is nationalist. And he has done Indians a favour, by naming the team -Force India.....and to ensure Force India wins, he has and should choose drivers who will perform.
Can Chandok or any other Indian driver get better points than Sutil? No.

So here I am tipping my pagree to Mr. Vijay Mallya. All those who oppose Mr Mallya, are traitors or jealous of his success or both!!!

He is successful, may be smart. But nationalist is a doubtful word you mentioned. However, surly he didn't did favored to name his team Force India. Its a complete capitalist venture. Not a nationalist venture. He did so to lure peoples to think, ah this is something I should be watching now. In fact we did him a favor to name the team after India. why can't you all make out one small thing? I don't have problem with his feelings about whom he hires. but IF HE DON'T REPRESENT INDIA WHY SHOULD HE CHOOSE INDIA AS THE NAME of his company?

About nationalist... i guess he proved that a long back after bringing back Tipu's sword.

About choosing a driver - i belive he is correct. He is a business man and he should do whatever makes more profit , no problem with that

If he is not a nationalist he would have not bought Gandhiji's items for $1.8 million. And what the heck about naming his team on India. He is showing the world that Indian's have caliber to enter into rich sports like Formula1.Yes i agree majority of the people in India does not even know what is F1 and that might be one of the main reason for not having F1 competitive good drivers. And bcoz of he making Indian's c F1,ppl might think of other passionate sports other than cricket. Also why people are just commenting on driver, why are you people not saying that he should use an Indian sports car.Do you think Maruti(without suzuki) can get you a F1 competitive sports car RIGHT NOW!!!!!

collecting antiques is a hobby, not nationalism. Thr is a difference between car and driver. And that is the same difference I am talking about, you don't represent india with capitalistic ventures like Maruti and Force India. But you do so by its citizen.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have problem with his comment neither I have problem with his policy. Individually, even I agree to his comment. But, collectively he should not use 'India' as his team name.

all that is fine for professional sake, he has no business commenting on the Indian drivers without doing enough.

Mind you FF1 did not get their point for almost two seasons and he is talking as if they are the world champions...

very ignorant and irresponsible comment by mallya
by gokul dharmana on Sep 15, 2009 07:38 AM  | Hide replies

Formula 1 is a rich sport which a poor country like India cannot afford. There are not enough tracks, facilities, vehicles and worldclass trainers in India who can groom young talent and make them future schumachers and sennas. Its not that India has no talent. Its just that there is no oppurtunity here otherwise Indians would do just fine as they are doing in cricket. Its upto powerful people like you to encourage and develop this sport in a poor country like ours instead of making shoddy comments that do nothing to help formula 1 motorsport in this country. Instead of donating crores worth of jewellery to tirumal tirupathi devasthanam's if you had opened driving academies and new tracks with a little initiative from govt in our metros it would have been helpful to budding enthusiasts to develop their interest in motorsports. If a third world country like brazil can do well in F1, there is no reason why we can't. Its just that there is more awareness and icons in F1 in brazil than in india

Thats a good idea, but will our government agree to this. They are not ready to even accept Formula1 as a sport, they call it as "Entertainment" which has ruined the possibility of having a Indian Grand Prix in the near future.

asking for Chandok is childish. but plz explain India in the name
by Guest on Sep 15, 2009 06:44 AM  | Hide replies

Mr. Mallya,
I'm completely with you as far as the issue of selecting drivers is concerned. But can you please explain the logic behind naming the team after India in a sport that has no national affiliations.
I would take you at your face value, but weren't you hoping to make some extra money on that basis in the long run. If yes, then please deal with the baggage without being irritated.
If it was pure love for the country and sentimentalism, then again some explanation is needed. afterall investment and sentimentalism don't go well hand in hand.. and if there was a hint of latter, why back down now.. so your limit of sentimentalism is to the point where there is no materialistic downside.

Hey smarty pants!! the logic behind naming the team after India in this sport does not mean it should run on Indian Oil , use MRF tyres and have an Indian Driver. An Indian Owns it and that is something to be proud of.

What is proud in that? This is the only problem with us Indians - If anybody in our village achieve something we are proud of him/her. We should be proud if we do not when our neighbor, brother, sons and, now for an instance, indians do something. Thr is a difference between MRF tires and indian riders....If you name it force India and recruit foreigners into it, its gonna boil down. Do you know in the crew of Force India even the mechanics are not indian. Aren't Indians good enough to change the tires.... The Mallya is a captialist guy, and no company of such people should be named after the country.

An indian own it and its something to feel proud about. But why put the country name associated with the team when its not a country specific sporting competition..... also no other team has the country's name in it.... dont you find it a little doubtful of invoking a fake patriotism..?

no other team has a country name because they are owned by car manufacturing co.
eg.
Renault
Ferrari
McLaren - Merc
Toyota
Honda
BMW
STR
Williams

or owned by an individual

eg. Brawn

only Mr. Mallya had the curtsy

to name it after his country

and by the way the name of our country is not your personal property its everybodies property

And well Mr. Mallya is surely more Patriotic then you

Go on a web serch and look for further details.
