I think the organisers meant what they had done. Infact they symbolically meant that the time has come to vacate the seat and want you out of IOA. Infact we all want you out. IOA is not anyone's personal fiefdom. Should have grace to occupy the position. Infact i would have given my arm just to see these great athletes leave alone sitting in the venue. I really dont know why people stoop down to such absymal levels to gain attention and be given importance. Infact what creds does he have to occupy the position. For London Olympics the head is Mr. Sebastian Coe. He is a legend in sports. Does our charman know Seb Coe's sport. hope he doesnt say that he is cricket Player. Only persons with such stature should be given such a mantle. These guys are not even worth a dime of the value greats like Seb Coe bring to the wonderful arena of sport. Kudos to the writer of the article.
Hey "Our athletes" you have brought glory to our country and i salute your achievements. I salute all the athletes from our country who have participated in the Olympics

Kalmadi.. its time to leave
by Ideal on Sep 05, 2008 09:56 PM

Kalmadi may not be a politician. you may have categorized him as socialite. But, he has every smartness of a politician. He has clung on to his position for years without ever delivering anything. What is the role of Indian olympic association. What progressive role, reforms or act has kalmadi helped develop in IOA to bring to fore the need for developing sports as president of IOA. I wouldnt be surprised if he had used his visiting cards to get seats in restuaruants without waiting. Beyond that he has not used it for any useful purpose. Its high time he is asked to quit. But, who is going to ask him to quit... Thats the situation of our sport. No where to hide. No one to care .. and being sportsman in this country is not going to help anyone unless u r a cricketer. Rest are left to rot.. Shame Kalmadi.. Shame..

make this article public...on the front page of evry national/reginal newpaper..
by anshalu bansal on Sep 05, 2008 08:04 PM

a very pollitically, ethically, morally and above all socially correct article...the writer hasd done a very fine n sensible job by coming up with such a nice hard hitting hammering blow...hatts Off to u Mr. WRITER...what a flamboyant piece of work...

I personally think that all the Sports organizations run by non-sporty background politicians should be dissolved becoz they dont knw the ABCD of the sport, what they r best in is just the POWER MAKING,POWWER Showing and money making agendas...

I dint knw this happened to our medallists while way back to INDIA..but after reading this i think rather i hate those who cant respect othrs but vouch for their own respect...SHOW SOME GUTS N GRACE mr. kalmadi...show some respect to the people who r above yr personal respect...inspite of walking away frm the felicitation function, concentate on CYG-PUNE 2008 whyi9ch is lagging way behind from its schedule...and if u cannot deliver what u r supposed to do thn step down and make way for others...

BJP should boot Kalmadi and Dasmunshi out next time
by Saurav Basu on Sep 05, 2008 08:00 PM

Indian sports has been ruined by Congress politicians like Kalmadi and Dasmunshi. Even S S Gill, the sports minister could not identify Gopi Chand when he accompanied Saina Nehwal few days back

If Kalmadi knows the meaning of the word SHAME, he should resign
by Mr George on Sep 05, 2008 07:56 PM

We have a sports budget of over 800 crores. Where are these money spent ? It is such a shame that Indian atheletes regardless of discipline has to fight tooth and nail to get flight tickets for participating in international events. Bindra was not paid for the flight ticket from Germany to China where he was on a training trip because he didnt board the flight from India.

There are many people to be kicked out. Suresh Kalmadi (IOA), Priyaranjan Dasmunshi (AIFF), Khanna (AITA), etc who are all presidents of national associations for god knows how many years.

Look at the change Bob Houghton had brought to Indian football. We have qualified for Asia Cup after a long time. Bharti is investing nearly 100 crores in football. Mallya is investing in F1. There is a huge momentum for sports other than cricket which is played by 8 countries (4 minnows)with India winning 3 medals in Olympics, India qualifying for Asia Cup football, etc. We need to build on this momentum to bag more medals by 2020.

All these officialdoms should be kicked out before it rots further, as if it is not rotten enough.

Rediff should ensure that this reaches him and he responds. The general public deserves an answer for this.
