Most of the institution created for some specific purpose were not doing their job because focus was not there. Most of the institutions have become posts for employment of useless or corrupt officials with no linkage with the purpose.Otherwise there was no reason that no person was available in India to win a medal in olympic. It was very important to desolve all these organisaton, rewrite their constitution with inclusion of only players as main officials and some employee as facilitator with full autonomy.
Kalmadhi is always like to honour film actress rather than sports personnels. The pity is that he spends the sports money to honour film actress because he is the hero in IOB. Hence, we can not expect anything more from great actor Kalmadhi. Enjoy his damashas and dramas.
Mr.Kalmadi is overgrown child from Pune, i regret being in the same city. He has destroyed the beautiful city, become overrly rich with no income tax impediments. I hope we stop having such shortsighted and corrupt humans as our representatives who start thinking they are GODs. Shame on we punietis on electing an incompetant character.
You gave two brilliant examples one Australian PM & Other Cuban President greetinig to their heroes at the airport. This only tells the story & what we are lacking.. Thanks a lot...
Can anyone please tell us the officials: sportsmen ratio for these and the earlier Olympics, Commonwealth Games etc.? I have heard from someone that it actually is 3:1, i.e. three officials to one sportsman!!! That explains why we perform like we have been doing in these and other Games! SSM
Let us kick this man out. Kalmadi is an unscrupulous politician with no roots in any kind of sport at all he has been at the helm of the IOA by his scheming rather than by any great feat of organisation. The Commonwealth Youth Games, scheduled in Pune in October will lay him bare (though he has already started making excuses and blaming the PMC, but HE is the MP from Pune). The CYG will be a shame to the country and we need to throw this man out.

correct throw these politicians out and bring in ceo's of MNC's and see the difference in their professional approach
Then again, Cuban President Raul Castro received his country's athletes at the Havana airport and not, as is the case in pompous and graceless India, waiting for them to call on him for being shown the winners, their medals and for other photo-opportunities.
Excellently written, but you know people like Kalmadi are shameless A holes who are totally unfit in such places. India to reach at least 10 Gold, 15 Silver and 20 Bronze needs a solid solid vision with multi-billion dollar investment on talent pool, infrastructure, coaches and international exposure. BTW, focus must be more on building the talent within the domestic levels, which steadily and solidly raised to the International and Olympic levels. Frankly, even with this kind of programme only possibility of such a result would be 2016 Olympics. After all, Olympics are not Gulli-Danda kinda competition!
