Comparison of Gill and Musharraf
by Nemediyah on Mar 11, 2008 04:56 PM

Both seem to be dictators who will hang on to power at any cost. Both of them have ruined their organizations through incompetence and nepotism.

Mr. Carvalho, how come not even one serious shot was taken at GB goal? Did you pick the best team?

I know that our best team was not playing in this tournament. What is our plan on drag flickers? Where were Len Iyyappa & Sandeep Singh in this tournament? We were also lacking finishing power in the end.

The coach did the best he could with the team he had - But did he get the best possible Indian team ?

Congratulations Team India for your dedication and for being runner up.
by Sebastian Cherukanam on Mar 11, 2008 04:29 PM  | Hide replies

It does not mean that Indians are not playing good. The current team is better in all respects than our team in the past. Then you will ask why India is not winning now and the answer is simple. It was the technique, which helped India in winning half a dozen Olympic Gold Medals in the past playing against the same teams. During those periods, though players in other teams were more physically fit than Indian players, technique wise, they were all inferior to Indian players. Now they all improved their technical skill and at par with India. The only difference in most cases is the stamina, energy in players in other teams. Europeans, Australians, Canadians and even Pakistan players are physically well built than India players. They have that perfect combination of stamina and technique and therefore, they dominate. Now it is almost difficult for Indians to regain the supremacy in Hockey in the near future because our climate, backwardness and all are there as hindrances. This is not just with Hockey but also with all other games where stamina is a must. India is doing well in Cricket because, though stamina is required even in Cricket, the influence of technical skill is paramount in Cricket unlike in other sports. In Kabadi, India performs well these days, but no doubt, when other teams pick up the technique in that game, India's supremacy will end there as well.

I want to congratulate India for doing well with their limited resources. Also, it is high time to take sports i

I want to congratulate India for doing well with their limited resources. Also, it is high time to take sports in a sportsman spirit and also for keeping the youth in a country physically fit and engaged so that they will not wander here and there and will not enter in other activities, which will create trouble in the society. When we take things in that way, winning all the time will become irrelevant.

Yes.. I agree everyone is feeling very low for Indian Hockey for their defeat but given the limited resources and facilities it is really good that they have come to the finals...

Big words Mr Carvalho, but no actions
by Vinayak Gadekar on Mar 11, 2008 03:23 PM

Joaquim Carvalho, I wonder how you could encourage fitness in our boys, WITH YOU BEING SO BLOATED AND GROSSLY OVERWEIGHT EVEN FOR A NORMAL INDIVIDUAL, LEAVE ALONE FOR A NATIONAL HOCKEY COACH. One has to lead by example.

What example have you been setting (just one of the points out of the many I thought I should make a mention about)?

hockey is a power sports whras cricket is a sluggish sports..

hockey is 10 times competive than cricket. thats why qualiying for hockey world cup is equivalent to win cricket world cup.

hockey is an olympic sports

hockey is our national game. we dont need to protect only our national animal but national game too. we r investing crores in saving nat animal why not even the 10% of it is invested in national game? why not 10% of media n public support to national game..

there is a provision to protect each and every thing related and deep rooted to nation

Time to look ahead
by ksrinivasan vasan on Mar 11, 2008 03:04 PM

Every time we get in to the controversy that Hockey is not funded as much as cricket do, and hockey is not recognised as much as cricket.

It is true that most of the funds for Cricket and Hockey development arrives from the sponsors. Without fund you can't improve the game from gross root level.

Even after ruled the world like champions in hockey for 55 years, Indian hockey shown a lack of confidance in an important time called "TELEVISION ERA". In mid 80s when television revolution started in India.... Cricket was on the up and Hockey was low. People saw live the cricket team performing good at international level and hockey team degrading. Thus public lost the interest in hockey.

The great IHF never done anything good to improve the Indian Hockey to modern day competance. Funds also reduced and thus the motivation of hockey players!

As the Title says.........it is time to start from scratch. SAI has to allot more funds to develop hockey. We have 25 years of failure in one side of coin and 55 years of glory in other side. So dont blame now, sack the IHF and start with players voted administrators. Announce incentive for every win..every goal.

At last media support is very crucial. Support them atleast 50% of what they do now against their win.

sports organisation has nothing to do with it.. its we the public of nation r responsible for failure. accept the truth..

Dear Attacker, you posted this half-hour ago. Why are you blindly cut-pasting the same post and doing it again?

I suspect an empty hollow sphere in between your ears and right below your combing area!!!!

So, according you, anyone who's not supporting Hockey is "Unpatriotic".

Then what do you call Mr.KPS Gill - who simply is refusing to step down even after this loss?

Oh!!! He is super-patriotic according to your standards, ha???

What do you mean: Media and Public Support anyway?

You mean to say: Unless the Media and Public Support is there, NOTHING gets done in this country?

Which planet you belong to, Attacker???

India's past 8 Olympic GOLD
by pramod Ekka on Mar 11, 2008 02:59 PM

India's record holding past Hockey Olympians & government%u2019s apathy towards this sport should be blamed for failure of present Indian Hockey team.
%u2022      Modern hockey is not the same as of the past %u2013 Olympians must realize.
%u2022      Indian style of hockey alone will not conquer the game. India has incompetent or hardly any good strikers or drag flicker.
%u2022      Though talent is plenty, unable to pick the best.
%u2022      Infrastructure (astroturf) is not even 15% satisfactory.
%u2022      Absolutely no career scope/growth in this sport.
%u2022      Bring in sport management professionals.
