i feel Mr. Gill and his officate team should be removed from federation, since he took seat, contraversies are more than long term steps toward benifit of games.

Poor status of hockey
by KT Shyamsunder on Mar 10, 2008 04:12 PM  | Hide replies

When we did not qualify for next round in Cricket World cup 2007 there was strong reactions. Know when we did not qualify for olympics in Hockey incidentally our national sport, now everybody is silent. Who cares about hockey in india. No funds nothing. Hockey is not money earning game here. Even government does not care hoceky federations. Then how will you expect medals, trophies and cups. Lets hockey game rest in peace.

Actually the team has done a favour to the country by saving us the travelling, staying, fooding expenses had they qualified. I am sure they would have finished last or second last in the rankings. "Fall from grace"! Ha! Ha! They are a bunch of losers in international hockey.

Nothing short of morones who are wasting resources of the country and spoiling our time.

Lack of accountability for the Indian Hockey Federation
by Great ddd on Mar 10, 2008 04:05 PM

One of the important reason is lack of accountability for Gill and Co.

Less importance
by vsgiri on Mar 10, 2008 03:55 PM

We deserve this because Hocky has become less popular in our country compared to cricket and politicians are responsible for all this. We lost in WC 2007 because f politicians wanted Souurab Ganguly at any cost. The same politicians wanted a young team and we got the T20 as well Triseries but Dravid and Chapel never got that.

Fall of Indian Hockey- A dirge
by D goel on Mar 10, 2008 03:41 PM

Panchkula Afternoon 3.20pm, Monday, 10th March , 2008
To a man of my old age 74 yrs. , this is shocking that Indian Hockey has come to such a pass! In past decade ,too ,despite bad turns and twists , we had accomplished players like Harbinder Singh , Tirkey, Pillai , and Ashok Kumar though not equal to legends like Dhyan Chand or RoopSingh still could be equal to second generation stalwarts and Olympians like Babbu, Kishan Lal , Balbir Singh , Kaushik or Jammanlal ,Charanjit or J. Iqbal..Now ,the nadir of Hockey is on our horizon , as upstart teams of China , Bylorussia or Spain and and even non-descript
England shall vy with Koreans and Pakistanis for Medals in Beijing while we shall be put outside the stadium.
The causes ,are aplenty , the nature of hockey has become robust and dribbling and short passwork no longer can tackle the needs of superb body fitness of Germans , and swift conversion of Penalty corners or effective free-hits.our wingers and half line players too get fagged out on astro turfs in about 40 minutes nearly about two thirds of full time.
Add to this , the craze for Cricket leaves little sense of dedication in schools and small -town for sturdy manly fitness amongst our youth for stamina to last full 75-80 minutes quick hard demands of fast Hockey of our times! The game has to be worked out from intial stages in Schools and village fields , if we are not to stay dumped for decades from competitive hockey as the global sport ...D. In cricket the same has happened in l(o)ast world cup..Our guys quit the game in worstway...but the fans never gave their heroes...now they regained the fame....
The same support hand to be given to our national games...Hockey players..don't loose yr. hearts..Like cricket team bring the youngsters...change the defensive game to attacking game...all is possible till we have confident...

You are right. Hockey players don't lose heart. You will come back soon. Failure is the stepping stone to success. Best of luck.

Hockey loss and cricket
by ajit gangadhara on Mar 10, 2008 03:22 PM  | Hide replies

India can do well only in games like cricket, billiards, or kabaddi, which are played only by a few commonwealth countries. It is a shame that even with such a large popoulation, we are unable to qualify for olympics or world cup in games such as football, volley ball, basket ball or hockey, which are played by many countries in the world.
