A shame to KPS the way he has managed indian hockey since he took over for long time. One way it is good that India lost in qualifier saving on the cost of big contingency touring Beijing without the potential to beat ordinary teams even. Time to revamp Indian hockey!

The format is to be blamed
by A P on Mar 10, 2008 02:22 PM  | Hide replies

The format of qualifying tournament is to be blamed for india's exit.

Till 2004, top 6 teams out of 12 qualifying countries will be qualifying for the olympics.
This time there were 3 separate qualifying tournament 96 teams each), with only the winner in each tournament qualifying.
So, i think its more to do with the format.
If the same format was present earlier, india would have been out of olympics that time itself.

Nothing wrong..except K.P.S.Gill...He is soley resposnible. In Indian Hockey sport he is Modern HITLER. Under his Presidentship we lost many good players & goal keeper. One of is DHANRAJ PILLAY..Even Govt.of India is also helpless to remove from his post..He is Fevicol...Under is leadership we cannot except bright future in hockey....At least now govt.should take initiative & remove immediately this modern HILTER from his post..& select retired hockey player who played for india before...So we hockey lover request central govt. to remove Gill, immediately, to save hockey....

Indian Hockey and KPS Gill

KPS has been treating Indian Hockey as a law and order problem comprising mainly of terrorism and has led the Indian Hockey to its present position. Shame on him if he still chooses to hang on to the post and the attached freebies. since most of the police people are expected to be without any sense of shame, he is not likely to oblige by resigning on his own till he is shown the door by the authorities. It is the saddest day in the history of Indian Hockey.

i too agree last year he said that the indian players will be award Rs.1000 per goal scored adn Rs.2000 will be deducted per goal scored against them. So this time they were busy in saving the goal rather than scoring which is there traditional strengthen

I do not think we have any right to expect any performance from Indian team. We do not give them any financial help, never provided any infrastructure facilities (there are hardly any astro turf in India, while all the tournaments abroad are on astro turf).
The hockey players do not get any adulation from the country whatsoever when they win Asia cup etc, no money and no rewards whatsoever (they are rewarded like beggars when compared to Cricket U19 team). I think it is unfair to criticise them when they lose.
Let's be practical, expect rewards in proportion to the passion with which we cheer our players.
