High Time
by Paul Richard on Mar 10, 2008 06:29 PM

Its high time that our government takes a serious look into the matter. Motivation of the players and secuirty for the performers should be guaranteed by the govt. that we can rebuild the team. When the coach and support staff can step down on moral grounds why is the old man who is spoiling the sport still does not leave the chair. Throw him out to rebuild the team. Indian Hockey needs a new management.

Let teh good Indian sport lovers support the team when they need them the most now.

Team always better luck next time. You played well.

National Shame or National Game.

The Sports Ministry should take the Prime responsibility for the Fall from Golden Era.
The sports ministry has done megere to support and promote its National Sport.
Its a National Shame.
Secondly the person sitting at the Helm of affairs Mr Gill is the culprit.
The solution lies in Having the right people at the top, to make proper infrastructure and inculcate habit in young people to play Hockey.
Only then will our National Game survive.

When Mani Shankar Iyer is asked about this, he says IHF is a autonomous body, so he cannot do anything,. may be we have to tell him MR. Iyer HOCKEY IS OUR NATIONAL SPORT.

So what if it is the national sport? Some bureaucrats decided that. I don't recall Hockey being elected as the national sport - it is just a decision taken by some people behind some desk.

by Rakesh Raj on Mar 10, 2008 05:37 PM  | Hide replies

KPS GIll has been the culprit behind Inidan hockey's decline. He was the one who had thrown out players like Dhanraj Pillai, who were the key players which one the last Asian Games for India.
Think Gill has to resign.. Rest would be taken care

The only thing went wrong to Indian Hockey is K.P.S Gill.
Wht the hell he is doing there. He kicked out Dhanraj Pillai and six others just after winning the Asiad gold medal. Now how the players r supposed to perform whn there place is not safe in the team even if they win.
I think not the caoch but this Sardar should resign but the chances r 0% as he is not gonna bow down so easily.

i dont blame ICL or IPL..in fact we must congratulate BCCI to garner the oppurtunity and generate the kind of funds they are doing. IHF should learn from BCCI how to generate interest and funds for hockey..what they really need is young brigade in office who can do marketing and
publicity for the game.AND I THINK PRIVATISING INDIAN HOCKEY FEDERATION IS THE ONLY OPTION OUT..give it to vijay mallya or SRK..because i know they will keep no stone unturned to give the hockey team the best of the facility. ARE U ALL AWARE , THAT THE EQUIPMENTS THAT THE CHAK DE GIRLS USED IN THE MOVIE..THE INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM CAN ONLY DREAM OF HAVING IT...MUST ADVISE U ALL BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION NOT THE PROBLEM

Be specific. Not BCCI, but Daddy Cool Jagmohan Dalmiya was responsible for filling the coffers of BCCI and funds always help in creating an atmosphere where professionalism and politics both grow quickly.
First make the sport a viable option for sportsmen to work hard for.
Second, make sports a part of school curriculum. I remember that sportsmen in our time had to balance academics with sports in which sports is always rated a poor second. So only those who were acceptable as academic failures would work hard in a sport. And if people work hard in sport after becoming 18 then they will proficient only when they reach 28 to 30. So change policy or change your expectations of success INDIA. You are a great country but with sportsmen whose pride is reduced to the level of beggars held in contempt by chanchas of whimsical politicians!

Stop all ICL/IPL business in cricket ang give equal importance to hockey like in cricket and give equivalent money to hockey players also, they will surely regain its position.

ICL & IPL etc have come recently. Cricket became popular sport much earlier. The problem with other sports organisation is blaming cricket. The core issue is that majority people do not bother about other sports. When Dhanraj pillay was dropped out has any ripple seen? was there any body held responisble? So it is the people in general responsible. May be we can think of ways and means by which CRICKET is our national sport. What is wrong in that? what was the logic in declaring Hockey as nationa sport then? All other sports men were accomodated in good public sector companies and thereafter they build their bellys. No system exist to debate their utilities there after. But in Cricket most public follws and thus effigy burning and also victory dancning etc takes place. Who care hockey these days. Lat us blame the public. It is easy.

Why to blame cricket for the failures o all other sports. How would you explain Australia qualifying for olympic hockey when they were syonymous for cricket. There are plenty of such examples to show that other countries do well in their sports of interest. So let us not blame cricket for other failures. We as a nation should not feel ashamed because shame has become part of our existence right from the day we came home without an olympic medal.
