It's lack of talent, plain and simple!
by Aravindan SR on Mar 10, 2008 12:46 PM  | Hide replies

Excuse me for putting it this way, but I think the fundamental problem is lack of talent. in cricket, you have a Sachin Tendulkar who is arguable the greatest batsman to have played the game since Don Bradman. And he has a vlose second in Rahul Dravid. Even among the bowlers too, we have such talented spin bowlers and pacemen. Now coming to other sports, in chess we have Vishwanathan Anand, who can beat any other chess player from anywhere in the world on any given day. In snooker we have had Geet Sethi, who on his day is impossible to beat. Same too with the tennis players, who may not be among the brightest stars of the sport, but who have such passion, no one can beat them when they are in the highest of spirits playing for the country. Take Leander Paes for example, who simply gets intoxicated when he sees the India National flag waving in the stands. In Davis cup matches, is there anyone whom Leander has not beaten? Nobody did anything for any of these worthy sportsmen, than they did for hockey players. Now tell me, which one Indian hockey player can walk into the World XI? I think the last one who could was Pargat Singh. who retired years ago. Let's accept it, it's lack of talent or lack of passion, or both. If these hockey players played wiith even half the passion Leander Paes orVishwanathan Anand played, they would have won more than one world cup in all the time Leander played tennis. It's their fault. They have only themselves to blame!

SAUDI INDIAN INSURANCE COMPANY
IHF or IHPKF
by SAUDI INDIAN INSURANCE COMPANY on Mar 10, 2008 12:39 PM

When the Indian Hockey Federation acts as Indian Hockey Players Killing Federation this is the thing to expect. Can you tell of a single player in Hockey who has honerably retired after his carreer in the last 15 years (after Mr.KPS.Gill & Jyothikumaran took charge)? Their carrer has been ruined & they are not seen or heard any more, how many players Dhanraj Pillay, Jugraj Singh, etc. etc.

If this is the way you treat your players you cannot expect any better result.

we need one jagmohan dalmia
by MT on Mar 10, 2008 12:39 PM

i think we need one jagmohan dakmia for hockey and football for their rebirth as they are dead now under the present leadership.

first thing should be done is to SACK kps gill and priranjan das munsi and give the command to former players of these games then only we can think of revival and and stop sending officials to tour the matches and utilisr the money for better use or just give it to the players who need it

yes,i do agree with you.but game is not about money.it requires sportsmanship, basic skills, enthusiasim to play & represent your nation.in india talent is in abundant, everybody knows.question is only of chance.

cricket popularity over other sports is clear.sponsors,money,ads,carrer,movies...lot of options for cricketers.but for hockey players,nothing...

i think team should be handed over to mr. shahrukh khan.he got popular after chak de india..which becomes national anthem for sports.so i request him take care of hockey by putting his interest,money,stardum...he is putting money in ipl and bough franchise right of kolkata team.i request him to show some charishama for real hockey, which is our national game.so i request him once again to show real chak de..as compared to reel chak de...

I am also sympathetic towards Hockey, but it cannot be at cost of cricket.
Every sport has its glamour.
The point is at grass root level also children love playing cricket even on street .
Hockey needs better infrastructure.

Ridiculous! If hockey players are not good enough do not blame Cricket for that. You can't expect Sachin to be good in hockey!

Regionalism Killed Hockey....
by VS on Mar 10, 2008 12:35 PM

Believe it or not it iS Regionalism which killed Indian hockey.... nd will going to kill all other sports too...
In the golden age of hockey, players used to be selected on the basis of their merit nd not region....
Hockey was the game of Punjabis and it was believed that no other team can defeat a team even fron sangrur in Punjab...
But this reservation on the basis of regionalism killed all that...
Now a days team doesnt consist of good players but 1 player from TN.. 1 from Kerala.... 1 from Up.... 1 from Orissa... nd so on...
this Basis of selection proved Fatal for the future of Hockey....
iF U WLL prefer regionalism to merit, then only this thing is going to happen...

Followers of Hockey

Hockey has tremendous following in our country and people are emotionally attached with this game. Even the youngsters who have not played hockey have respect for hockey in their hearts. And this can be encashed to garner support from the Industry and Commerce by presenting the economic face of the Game. My study shows that by arranging hockey series and matches among interantional teams Industrial houses can make handsome money.
