ROGER FEDERER simply the GREAT OF ALL!!!!!!!!!!
by shivani bhatt on Jan 26, 2008 03:15 PM

it was really grievous to see him (i'll not say loosing because it could be very rash)not performing well. As he was unfit, djokovic just thank to god you won otherwise federer would have shun you out from the court and give you a fire of shot. So, ROGER FEDERER you are simply great and would count in legends list viz. Aggasi, Sampras, Becker, et al aura in the world of TENNIS!!!!!!!!!

fedex-sampras

Pete sampras was a fantastic player. He conserved his enrgy for a specific time in each match. For the rest of the match he would serve great and play within his limitations; no dashing around for the darting ball, no divings and no fuss at all when 4-4 in the set he would unleash a couple of his big, incrdible running forehands and the set will be in his bag.In several matches with Ivonosevic all statistics like 1st service, winners at net, service returns etc etc were in favor of goran, but sampras had won the match. Such was his composure. And Federe makes it look like just he is from another planet. the opponents are fighting with swords while he has some laser beam equipment. But I think the circuit has better players in sampras era. It is not only just the nmaes were bigger but, Agassi, Ivanasvic, becker were better players. Its very good that Jokovic, Nadal and a few other really good players come around. For me I donot know who the better player is but my vote goes to Sampras.

Did Federer play to Win or Lose ?
by Raghavan on Jan 25, 2008 09:52 PM

The way he played,I doubt if Federer was Sincerely trying to win.
A normal Federer would fight till the end but not in this match.

We take it for granted the winning performances of players like Federer, Tendulkar, Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher, Pele etc. These great players have created certain aura around themselves with their consistent brilliant performances. We never expect them to fail. We forget that they are also humans and a time will come when failure will stare at them. But the pleasure that these greats have given us will be permanently etched in our memories

At last it is a reprive to read real appreciation for Class. Sometimes people just do not admire the kind of joy these people bring into the world of sport....

Well said raja. This game reminds me of the one between Boris becker and Stefen edberg and when we expected Boris to win Edberg had thrashed him and also made insulting comments later.

Really well, siad, you will certainly have an off day when you would not be able to concentrate and will have a certain element of self doubt, Fedy must've been going through that phase during the match. On his day he is "Roger Finisher

Federer - slightly off the pedestal
by Sunil Yande on Jan 25, 2008 08:35 PM

It was painful to see Federer going down tamely through the second set, after being on top in the first set, and also losing in a tie-breaker which is so rare for Roger. He did seem out of sorts most likely due to his illness just before beginning of the Open. And Federer's primary weapon - his accrate serve deserted him on the day. We knew Djokovic was going to catch up with him some day, but we hoped it won't be so soon; at least not before his 14 slams and possibly the French crown. But as Federer said, everyone expects him to come out week after week and keep winning, but it is extremely tough. It is to Federer's excellence that he makes it appear so smooth and almost easy! Over the years, Federer has become the Sachin of World Tennis - tounaments loose their lustre when he is not there. But I guess, we would have to prepare ourselves for it as days pass and the younger crop takes control. Tsonga is one such exciting player and he could trip Djokovic on the last step. It would be one intersting final. In the meanwhile let Federer recuperate before one of the last pushes for the French, where another wounded tiger will await him licking his wounds...

Federer still the best..
by cricketlover on Jan 25, 2008 07:58 PM

Not taking anything away from Djokovic, I think Federer seemed slightly out of sorts and committed too many unforced errors today.

His game was far from best and still managed to fight so well. I still think there is Federer, then daylight and the rest.

I am sure he will be back with a bang..but rise of Djokovic is good for Tennis.

Federer's defeat
by puneet alag on Jan 25, 2008 07:53 PM

jokovic always had the talent to challenge and trouble federer, He is a player with power consistency.Congratulations to him.
However all this talk of fedex's demise is nonsense, i think fed will find a way to overcome novaks game, what we may see in the future is more open matches , but fed will still dominate.

Serbia and Tennis
by cricketlover on Jan 25, 2008 07:51 PM

Since becoming an independent nation, I think Serbia is just promoting tennis and nothing else in their country. Too many "vic"s- jankovic,ivanovic,tipsarevic,djokovic...and they are fast growing..wow..
