It was on the cards
by A K Singh on Jan 25, 2008 05:35 PM

Federer had not been fully fit before this tournament, and was expecting to regain match firtness in the earlier rounds. This did not happen.
Men's Tennis is now very competitive, and even a player like Federer has to be in peak physical condition, and keep working hard to win.
Anyway, better luck next time.

If Nadal is king of clay court, then Fedex is the king of other courts. But his ouster from Aus Open has proven that anyone is beatable and so I am sure there is bound to be an upset even in French Open. Do not write off Fedex, this loss may make him even more competitive and a scary opponent......even if he is not as muscular and athletic looking as other players

Expected
by A K Singh on Jan 25, 2008 05:30 PM  | Hide replies

It was on the cards. Federer had not been playing well in the earlier rounds, and was looking very beatable.
In todays' world of Tennis, 26 has to be considered OLD, and with a whole new lot of good players on the circuit, Federer will find it increasingly difficult to retain his position as World's no. 1 player, and to break Samprass' record.

Did u forget the winning streak of Pistol Pete? Just know when he won his last Grand slam title. Agassi was competitive even when he was 34.

It was predictable..
by abcd on Jan 25, 2008 05:29 PM  | Hide replies

The begining of end of Federer era has been quite evident if one looks at the recent past. Djokovik happens to be his nemesis if no one else is still good enough to dethrone him in immediate future.. Wish he is at least able to equal Pete's record of 14 grand slams!

No one is invincible
by voice on Jan 25, 2008 05:29 PM  | Hide replies

Yes Fedex lost, no one is invincible. He is a mere mortal who makes mistakes, but I do believe this loss is just once in a lifetime blunders for him. There are class sportsmen who are way beyond others; they lose sometimes, but always bounce back as better players just like Tiger Woods, Sachin, Schumi, Sampras and in this list there is Federer too....wait and watch, his return will be spectacular and his fans will enjoy his game even more....as they say form is temporary and class is permanent. Whoever emerges a good competitor to FEDEX will have to be too solid to reach his height in tennis.

Great victory by Novak.
It was time he started beating Roger when it mattered most. What better time than a grandslam. The year 2007 has been a bad year for Roger after losing many times during the ATP tour. I hope this year will be good for Novak. He sure deserves it for all the hard work.
Go on Novak.......

Doesn't mean decline of Federer
by Abhijat Singhal on Jan 25, 2008 05:27 PM  | Hide replies

To all those detractors who are predicting end of Federer era, a solitary loss doesn't mean decline of a great player. Federer is only 26 and will continue to remain on top for at least 3 more yrs and as the great Sampras himself said wud have 18 slams in his kitty by the time he retires. However, one thing is for sure. The competetion for Federer is going to be tougher with each passing year with the likes of Nadal and Djokovic pushing him all the time.

End of Federer Era, that is a joke. Losing once in a Grand Slam Semis after so many years and very soon some lunatics call him a loser.....pathetic. He is the best even if he lost the first grand slam this year.
