It is a futile exercise to compare between the two. The two games are different and different skills are required. But Phelp is greatest of all time in his field with all his world records. Sachin is not the greatest among all cricketers although he is having many world records and no doubt he is one of the greatest cricketers. Only Bradman's record in cricket can be compared with Phelps record.

Swimming is not a game it is only a life saving technique when a boat or ship capsize. Cricket is real game people enjoy it everywhere in shops, offices and even in hospitals bed-ridden patients also enjoy.

Crowd enjoys Sachin’s game and sometimes in cricket excitement is very much high and even poor people of India forget their tension and worries when there is world cup match or cricket tour. But Phelps game is boring and some Americans & Idiot Indians enjoy once in four year.

have a look at the broader side of the picture....howmany countries play cricket and howmany countries have swimming as one of its primary sports....if you think about it you will realise how negligible cricket is in the world of sports.....

10 countries play cricket, but the population of these 10 countries is equal to 50 countries. India alone has 100 crore people. And all the people of India weather rich or poor enjoy cricket very much. They forget their worries and tensions during world cup match or cricket tour. But there is not excitement in swimming. It should be banned in Olympics and Cricket should be included in Olympics.

besides swimming needs lottsa clean water which poor countries can't afford
second, you can play gali-cricket but can't play gali-swimming in India except during monsoons
third, in India, when girls go swimming, all the guys stop swimming and start watching - then, it becomes a true sport.
In India, swimming should be banned and swimming pools' water should distributed to poor who can bathe.
