Hockey & Foot ball
by krishnakanth on Aug 18, 2008 08:03 AM  | Hide replies

Foot ball is world famous team sports & moneywise rich game. I have seen many hockey & football events. Recently i have seen again olympic hockey & football. my observation is Hocky is much tough game than football. It is very interesting than foot ball.
India is not too bad all the times, as we won olympic gold medals also & recently loosing. but we can come again & win gold in hocky.it is possible.
Now india has big money & many sponsers. So india can mke hocky much famous than football.
One moreinteresting is all the nations are ready to play hocky not like cricket.

Dear Friend, you know very little about China, It is not the country where people/Govt think at all about Human rights, they take every steps by hook or crook to show the power of their nation, remember those time when Genaral Zia was pakistan President and they moulded their each team in such a way that winning against Indian is everything, which is not a correct spirit, one Govt should not have to take inhumane steps just for the sake of countrys Glory. You are wrong that parents force their children and make them olympic champions. It can only done by Bindras millionaire family or Yuvrajs over ambitious parents, ordinary man cannot able to provide proper food and basic education to their children. even it is true for USA also, here situation is not different but Govt setup such an infrastructure that everyone should be benefitted despite of their social or economical status, we are far behind in that case. If you will add up all the winning medals of european countries and divide them by their population so you will get my answer which country is a real top gun it is european nations, chinese or americans, no doubt that should be German or Russian or English

Good Excuse
by Indian King on Aug 18, 2008 07:59 AM  | Hide replies

Good excuse of hiding weaknesses, one should not blame others on failures in other sports, in case of India infrastructure of sports is weakness, as this will build up natural talent will come our itself, see the real sports population in India which is 0.000000001% as compare to european nations where it is 0.001%, In china the everything is forced and fabricated, in US it is natural, so guys whenever India will come up in sports that would be 100% natural not be chinese sports, which imposed, forced, and fabricated to live the expectation of country, really sad.

I agree with your few points but about Chinses sports is not forced or fabricated,If you see in china in country side not even city level. The sports are encouraged by parents not by the govt. in india if a child falldown & have an injury in any sports then parents say don't play again.same case in china parents will try to teach how to come over the situation & some times beat the child to play again.
Developed country have good sports spirit & india is developing & will have more medals in future( very soon)

she is right. Look at all other sports in India - all neglected. So much so that we stake everything on cricket. How can we expect any other Indian sportsmen/women to do well? Neither enough money not good facilities nor encouragement is available for them.

India has lost the passion for Sports...
by Souvik Jana on Aug 18, 2008 07:36 AM

In India, people have lost the Passion for Sports... Only Cricket has remained due to commercialization... The Govt dont even try to promote other sports.... People dont have time for other sports... In other countries its a dream to win an Olympic Gold... Young children are guided and trained by communities as well as govt in different sports so that in future they can win Gold for their country in Olmpics.... In India, no one cares.... Children are taught to get jobs... To become a sportsman other that Cricketer is a huge risk... Where is the money?? Where is the Fame??? What will happen afterwards???? ... Now who will want to go to that mess... Better to enjoy the Job, get married, and blame that sports in India is pathetic other than Cricket... be a Cricket Star... If you are thinking about other sports ... then you are crazy...

Indian sports will benefit by including
by Guest on Aug 18, 2008 06:35 AM

Hockey enjoyed the support of Indian masses so long it won medals. Including cricket in olympics will benefit other sports! If it can win, we have a medal if not we will ditch it like we did for hockey and find a new sport to support!

Stop Cribbing!!
by PunjabiPower on Aug 18, 2008 06:08 AM  | Hide replies

Instead of cribbing about team sports and what not cricket cant do, we should concentrate on finding potential talent in India to represent us in the olympics. There are so many kids in the villages and small towns of India who can compete. I will give you the best example, look at Keral where they have these rowing competitions every year. You should see it on youtube. The people who compete are from the pooorer sections of society. They have so much talent. The sports body or some rich private body should pick up these guys and train them. And lets concentrate on on sport, thats what China did. Not try and win medals in everything. Concentrate on one.

And there is nothing wrong in cricket being part of the olympics. t20 Cricket is any day more fun for everyone(even non-cricket nations) than watching sporting events like fencing, sailing , curling, equestrian horse jumping, trampoline and water polo.

Exactly. Bozos have kneejerk reactions about cricket "diverting" attention from other sports. The point is, it's good to watch swimming, sprint and pole vaulting for a certain duration, after which one loses interest. Cricket can only add to the diversity of the already diverse Olympic event.
Of course, one can watch womens' beach volleyball anytime :)

Why single out cricket
by Abcdarian on Aug 18, 2008 05:45 AM  | Hide replies

How come some sports like Soft ball, Base ball ( American Team sports ) have a place in the olympics. They are played by only a few countries and it seems to be a strategy to win more medals. Other team sports also prevail - Volley ball, FOOTBALL ( hugely popular in Europe, Africa and America and still figuring in Olympics), Beach Volleyball( isnt this pandering to the west and enabling them to enrich their haul). Whats wrong with Indian sports like Malkhamb( if synchro swiming is OK, so is Malbkambh), Kabadi,Kho Kho. If Tae Kwan Do and Beach Volley Ball are Olympic sports than so can be Gulli Danda. Whats in and what isnt is based decided by the west, isnt it?

Beach volleyball would be taken out too because Asians are catching up on that. Its the typical western strategy to prevent asian nations from getting more medals. You watch, finally we would have rolle skating in olympics!!!!!!!

cancer called cricket!
by Guest on Aug 18, 2008 04:36 AM  | Hide replies

exactly and that is why all USA wins is in american football right?
look at their athletes, one is humbled. Their sinlge one person has won so many medals that india--whole country has not won even in more than 110 years of olympics (totalled and multiplied by 5!)

They love football, but they also love basketball, baseball, all track and field events like races, javelin, shot put, long jump, swimming, fencing ...etc etc you name it!

where are we?

have you seen the athletes of american football. They are like machines. Heavily muscular and can run miles like marathon runners.
In each game do you know they loose an average of 5 kgs body weight just in 2 hours!! because of the amount of perspiration and loosing water in sweat. It is a game that develops the body and mind

In cricket you have had great cricketeers like ranatunga and inzamaan leading great cricketing nations and even winning and looking like 6 months pregnant!!

its a disgraceful game and should be banned forever!

USA has less than 1/3rd our population and look at the amount of places and events it performs in...while our cricketeers get rich and get groin injuries scratching their crotches in the field for days at a stretch and the common man leaving their jobs and students their studies to watch this cancer in progress...the only people getting rich are the stupid fat cricket players, the BCCI and the politicians and some corrupt and cunning bookies while some people rejoice about cricket!!

infact in my last trip to india, i did visit one of the villages (in northern india)

I intentionally took a football and asked all the school kids there who were standing there playing cricket to play football and i played with them...

it was ok for about 15 minutes and then they all stopped...

reason:

"Bahut mehnat karni padti hai...thak gayye!
Cricket hi achaa hai...thakavat nahin hoti!!"

needless to say that i could see his ribs and frail body and he was exhausted to death within 10 minutes of football (soccer) and he was always comfortable playing cricket whole day long!!

Cricket leads to hardly any physical development...it is a tremendous waste of time for everyone...those playing it...those watching it for hours and days (millions) those who should be studying or working...wasting time and getting their thrills from it

in india people seem to have no choice...they have no other game to look forward too..and it will remain like this till we empower cricket by making it so popular and thwarting all other good games/ sports....all we are doing is making millions for those lazy a$$ 15 bunch of cricketeers and the BCCI people who have made crores individually and a few cunning bookies who got rich from the foolishness of the people of india.

Huha is wrong..this is BS..football is the top sport in Bengal for decades....Indians are as good as anybody in sports..the problem is attitude and dwelling on negatives which is Indian culture...to find excuses with diets, with stature etc..thats BS...every trait can be used to advantage...S American or African nations have worse economies than India's. The effort doesnt take too long...just a planned way of establishing community centers with sports facilities and gym will change the whole thing. These centers can be self sufficient by offering vocational courses or lessons. Just copy the community playgrounds all over the USA...such beautiful facilities where the entire family can come and watch their kids play, socialize etc. What these superstars with so much money do with their wealth God knows.

A very close blood relative of mine was the BCCI president himself just 2 years back and I have personally met all these indian players ...sehwag, ganguly, tendulkar, harbhajan etc...

i remember i had to fly back to US and sehwag was flying to bangalore from delhi last time i met him...he knows me personally by name and i asked him:

"bhai aapka toe pet nikal raha hai (your stomach is sitcking out--he is fat!)" he belongs from the same state as i do too and he got embarassed.

you know what he said:
"jyaada cricket khelne se ho gayaa, pehle nahin tha!!"

Scoring 200 runs in a game, playing for about six hours or more, running between the wickets, moving feet, lifting bat to make strokes, running back to crease, standing in a stance, crouching for hours in that stance, accelerating to run when ball is in the hands of a fielder, requires efforts, sustained for days in test cricket. Only those who play real first class cricket, not tennis ball cricket on the street, can attest to that. Keep chasing the ball for even three hours of an innings, get to bowl five or ten overs in the middle, and you will realize the physical efforts it takes to play this game.
You cannot compare games like tennis, soccer or hockey with cricket. Why should you?!
Oh, and yes, just like another person already mentioned, US adores baseball, and basketball players make all the money in the world. Does it stop its swimmers from winning medals? Now China has upstaged them in some of the events of which they were uncrowned kings. What does that tell you?

Priyo spreading another negative myth...malnutrition is not in the middle class level which is huge in itself and bigger than Australia..dont mix up the two please. Nutrition fitness can be developed..India is not the worst country in the world, it is indeed one of the better ones to be honest...and to stigmatize Indians as lazy is an insult. Indians dance with passion, do Yoga, are slim and nimble..why do you think they win in boxing? anyone can do anything, but first people like Priyo have to go.

India is going to host the Commonwealth games in just over 2 years. The question is, can India achieve a fraction of what China did in conducting the games? It won't take any players, their skill, or their training to host. Let's see what we can do here.
