Indian Hockey is far far better than some qualifiers in this Olympics !!

Yesterday in MEN's HOCKEY at Beijing Olympics, South Africa was thrashed by Australia 10-0.

Australia team said that "We will miss India at this Olympics. They have some great players and we hope to see them next time (next Olympics)".

Everybody will agree with me that INDIA is 10000 times stronger than South Africa & never has India lost by 10 goals in a match in hockey.

Cant understand how a team like South Africa managed to qualify for Olympics with such a pathetic display of field hockey. They were playing with so many gaps in the field and absolutely no defensive strategy and no man to man marking at all. Aussies were easily passing the ball and scoring goals every 5 minutes. Infact ball possession could easily been 90% in favour of the Aussies in entire match. It was totally one sided match and Aussies missed a couple of chances. Else they could have scored a dozen (12) goals.

If such a weak team like South Africa can qualify, how INDIA which is far far superior in Hockey couldnt qualify at all for Olympics ?

If India would have played against Australia I am 100% sure we would put up a great fight and possibly even won the contest. Even if we were to lose we might have conceded at the most 2 or 3 goals and scored 1 or 2 ourselves too. We wouldnt have lost by 10 goal margin. This is ridiculous. Is the system RIGHT or WRONG in deciding BEST teams who will qualify for Olympics ?

India missed because of the tough qualifying round. You are very correct India would have shown a good show. We have a very good hockey team, I followed all the Hockey Asian cup in Chennai where played superbly. Media should focuss on this games rather than Cricket. I am not opposite to Cricket. Still I am seeing Dhonis note (saying India will win One day series.)in all news channel.

BTW, Heartist Congrats to the Football Team. We should win the AFC Asian Cup in 2011.

Indians.

T20 Cricket. Chess, Kabaddi atleast in 2016 Olympics please !!
by Gulabjamun Bhujiya on Aug 14, 2008 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

India's Olympics Association should try their mighty best with support from BCCI for aggressively promoting T20 Cricket, Chess & Kabbadi & convince the Olympics world to include these 3 as medal events atleast in 2016 Olympics. They have 8 years to chalk out a plan & push hard for these 3 sports in Olympics.

TAEKWONDO (a Korean sport), JUDO (Japanese traditional sport), BASEBALL (America's sport) &
WUSHU (of Chinese origin and a SPECIAL EVENT with 10 medals at this 2008 Olympics)

If these sports can get pushed (by their countries of origin) into Olympics and those countries keep winning medals, why India being 2nd highest populated country in world with so much money power & influential sporting bodies are not pushing our sports into Olympics ? Especially KABADDI. Kabaddi is played by 20 countries in the World and these are all major populated countries (not small countries). USA, UK, China, Brazil, Russia,Japan, Germany , Mexico, Nigeria all have Kabaddi Teams. Kabaddi has already been a medal sport at Asian Games and many World Level championships have taken place till now. So why after so many Olympiads this sport is neglected by India and not been made a MEDAL SPORT at Olympics even once till date.

Cricket is popular & TV viewership of WORLD CUP crosses millions of people globally. T20 version is easy to conduct.Atleast 20 countries can qualify & take part in Medal event at 2016 Olympics. If Chess can make it to Asian Games why not have it in Olympics ?

Proud to be an Indian for sports other than cricket
by Rik on Aug 14, 2008 10:14 AM

Courtesy our business world Indian cricket team got all the hypes. I am not saying that they haven't achieved anything, but I guess we all will agree to this that Indian cricket is a mere hype to the society. We almost forget our Hockey and most popular sports of past Football. Now I as an Indian can say poroudly that we are also one of the Asian best football team. We all should encourage other sporting stars apart from cricketers.

Well done India .... Avinav Bindra and Indian FootBall Team. I am proud of you.

BCCI ....BCCI... Please declare a prize amount of at least 5 lakhs to each player who contributed to the win of the this cup.

After all these players represented India and the football management does not have enough funds, then the cash-rich board BCCI should share a bit of its treasures to the contributors of other sports.

The cricket players are not able to digest the booty showered on them and vomiting..... At least if some amount is shared with players of other sports it would definitely inspire to perform better and contribute positively to the sport.

BCCI is a bunch of politicians and businessmen out there to earn money with easy means, from Indian people, most of whom over do about the timid, slow sport of cricket and worship players busy for personal goals in statistics or monetary gains.

Soccer the man's game
by ami on Aug 14, 2008 10:00 AM

Cricket is for timid, slow people. That's why most of the tropical Asian countries excel in it.Soccer is dynamic sports and the fittest can only play it at a high level.I dont see India competing with the European,Latin American sides in another 50-60 years, but they can atleast try to make an impression against the 2nd rated Asian countries.Antway that is an improvement and the players deserve kudos for it.
