As I post this message, I am hoping to hear from all of you (whether you agree or disagree with me)
I think if India needs to 'truely unite' if India wants to continue to survive as ONE country. We need our own Emperor Qin who will abolish all the differences between us. We need to get rid everything that divides us. Let's start with the caste system. Then let's move on to remove all regional languages. Let's translate all regional language books to the national language and then burn all regional books and close all regional language schools..Let's agree to have one national language and stick to it. Let's introduce a national attire..Let's give huge rewards to Indians who marry across state lines..If a Kashmiri guy marries an Andhra girl then their child will be "Indian"..I have seen this with some of my friends and IT WORKS.
Guys, it will be painful to go through all this and unfortunately we will be the generation to have gone through this but let's do it in the "one and done' fashion and we will have citizens who call themselves Indians and not Punjabis, Gujaratis, Bengalis or Marathis...
I just hope that come 2010, India doesn't bacome a laughing stock of the world. The way things are going, Commonwealth Games might be a disaster (I hope not) in terms of organisation and logistics. But the thing that comes to my mind is "Kahan Se Shuru Karen Hum"? All of us who have been to any government office (even in 2008) would come out with disgust. The stairways/walls are rancidated with "paan" stains. The office itself would be in a dilapidated state. And the "Babu" giving you the service would just show you an "I don't Care" attitude or ask for money. Things are so bad at the micro level itself. It seems, we as people do not take pride in India. Yes, we might vent our frustrations on these blogs but after that what! Some people completely detach themselves from India but can being an "Indian" tag escape you? So the nation and its people suffer collective humiliation in any part of the world that they live in. I have no doubt that if and the million dollar if we as a nation show passion in other sports, we can cane the world (and China). I mean our passion is cricket (OK we might have just won one World cup) but still we have done well and now we head the game! We have produced champions in cricket because we as a nation back the game with our passion. But that's about it at the moment. It's all just Cricket. Imean how many of us know that India play Tajikistan in the AFC Finals (Football). If we win, we'll play in the Asian Tournament in 2011.
Everything seems a farce after yesterday when I witnessed the grandest opening ceremony of any sporting event. The first thing that crossed my mind is why do people get into this India v/s China debate. I was one of the debaters too but after yesterday there is no debate at all! China has caned us and they are miles ahead of us. Just going through their stadiums and infrastructure on Wikipedia made me overwhelmed. Their stadiums are more like an inter-galactic playground-sooo futuristic. And what have we got-the best that I can think of is probably the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai. China is a Superpower in the real sense. That nation has a collective will. What will we do? We'll debate and get angry about India's performance in the games and that's it. Come September,India might win a few matches in Champion's Trophy cricket and all the news channel will start playing "Chak De India....." and we'll all be gloating or discussing Sachin and his spot in the team. The moment we get out our houses/offices, the stark reality of India hits us. Cars honking, people abusing the shite out of civic infrastructure (whatever we have) and life goes on! There is not one world class stadium in India. In one open "maidaan" in a city (that shares its pitches and sporting arenas with Cow-Dung and garbage), we have scores of boys and girls playing! How are we to expect champions out of these conditions. Uzbekistan, even North Korea has registered themselves in the medal tally today! Shame.
Sania feels ashamed to wear a Saree, comes to a global event in track suit, our Mr Kalmadi supports her, I think she is better than Nadal who was dressed as per his protocol......BOW FOR MADAM SANIA

it's almost funny but you know what?..I think you might be right..Let's give the sports ministry to Lalu

Yes we need some one more foolish than the current bunch to run the show. And who else better than Lalu..Lets totally mock the sports.
The usual shame bandwagon has started to roll. This is what will happen:
Sania Mirza will crash out Rd I. Same in doubles. Paes and Bhupathy will get to semis and lose the bronze. Then they will get into a slanging match in the media. Saina Nehwal will be invisible All shooters will do a cipher, and one will 'get close' and not get a bronze. It's already started. Swimming - hahahahaha Athletics - lol. Anju '4 meters' George? Hockey - oops, India didn't qualify. good. no embarrassment at the games Weighlifting ... oh wait, she was doped out before the Olympics started.
Rest anyway tourists in the squad. And of course 'officials' - the usual b'stads.
Indian 'athletes' should be the only ones allowed to take drugs, dope to enhance performance. They still may not win anything. However, this will be the same as our reservation policy, and this country is used to that.

@ C Kr
why don't you stop watching the crooked & fixed matches of cricket ?
all the money is sucked by a non-sport called cricket, then how come other sports will rise ????
at least, these players have qualified for olympics where there are rigorous dope test also.
Do you know that all cricketers take steroids & banned drugs to boost performances & we all praise those jokers. How would you know as there are no DOPE TESTS for crickters !!!
Its you indians who are the jokers & not these athletes who have the guts to qualify for olympics.

allow private people and/or Army to run the sports. And pay private companies on the basis of medals won in Asian/Olympics/Commonwealth etc. You will find India drastically improving.

Have you ever played any game at a District level? What we are unable to understand is that the international standards are so high when compared to Indian standards. Mind you the Indian standard is not that easy for a normal person to achieve. No I am not joking. You will realise this when you actually play the game yourself. You will definitely appreciate that the level of a national champion is miles ahead of normal people. The issue is, as many have mentioned, the guys running the associations. Be it the Kalmadis or the Gills or the Sharad Pawars of the world (sorry India) are the main culprits. Move them out. We need to get professionals to run the associations. They should not be pampered with advertisement offers like the cricketers. That will mean disaster. We need to pay sportsmen well (out of taxpayer money), ensure that they have a future in sport and then I think we can see the result. This will also bring in accountability. Instead of employing them (as the railways and PSU banks did, we need to make sure that they have a social security system available (performance based) to help them concentrate on sports. They should at the same time not become complacent.

you are right Guruji.... Another thing is that most parents in India and evety Indian youth are too much driven by the show business industry. They aspire to become fashion models, bollywood stars or even bollywood singers and dancers. Look at all the television programmes which feature competitions backed by corporates and where there is nothing called quality. All these enable the Indian youth to make fast money and the general trend is that. India was always poor in sports except for some instances like Hockey or cricket. It shall remain poor for the reasons you mentioned and also for the above reasons. Everyone of us should make an effort not to let ourselves and our children driven by commercialisation and encourage them to be a part of sports whether as a professional or an amatuer. Infact the environment for sports should be created first before we actually think of bagging medals in Olympics. Just like music and dance, every Indian youth because of ZEE and star wants to become a singer star whether amateur or professional.

I feel disappointed by your attitude. What have you done for your country? Ever represented it! The shooters brag? What do you think, you armchairs critics are doing?

I am not as disappointed as you are. Its like blaming the student for not doing his exam well, when the parent has not put him/her in a good school or provided adequate coaching, etc. The kid can only do that much. You cant achieve with one of your hands tied up. There is a big push that is required which is what the associations are expected to provide. Unless the system is changed, any number of attempts will result in only pain, frustration and anger

I agree fully with you guruji
Every country was represented by Heads of State and premiers in the opening ceremony yesterday. But India was represented by a political party leader who is good for nothing with her whole family was in china in goverment money.

China wanted to snub India by inviting Sonia Gandhi and not the Prime Minister. She took the opportunity to go rather than snub the commies and stay back. She wanted to show her children and grand children what the Olympics look like at tax payer cost. China is marching way ahead of us and has shown by example how it can conduct the games. We are still struggling to host Asian games!!!. I really wonder if we would be able to host the Olympics before 2050. I think if not getting gold medallist, we need to aim to host the Olympics. We definitely need to have a plan for that. That way we can get some developmental activity takes place in the country. If not in sports on an intellectual level we should be the number one country.

you are absolutely right, Guruji. The Chinese snubbed India. And "Madam" has neither the will nor the guts to snub the Commies. The Commies have read the Indians inside-out.
Everybody knows india has slim chances of winning a medal. But,if u r ready to analyze the flat truth, pls read further. To win medals in international level,u need fighting spirit.Shouldnot compromise nothing other than 1st place. As indians we dont have that fighting spirits from ancient days...History tells that,we were invaded by so many foreigners by war.But we never attacked anyone. We r even ready to compromise with our invaders. So that fighting spirit we can never develope. We had a very good chance of evoking that spirit,by defeating british people in war ,like USA.but we missed that also.
U CAN SEE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD,WHO R ALL GOOD IN SPORTS HAVE THEIR PRESTIGEOUS HISTORY OF THEIR COUTRY. USA SPAIN ARGENTINA DERMANY RUSSIA CZECH
aLL r aggressive...ready to thrash opponents.
our players aim at 3rd place and endup with 30th place.
we have to increase our skills ourselfs ,not for money...but for self esteem.
I was flipping through news channels, saw Boria Majumdar giving his take on the abysmal performance of the Indian contingent. He had one good thing to say and I quote :
"This is not a moment for us to lament the loss of India but an opportunity to savor the heroics of these extraordinary men and women, who've come from all over the world".
Then I switched over to the next channel to see Mayawati cussing BJP and Congress for depriving her of the opportunity to become the next Prime Minister.
