India has never won an individual gold at the Olympics. What ails Indian sport? I think it is because we are too obsessed with cricket. Let's see cricket for what it actually is, a british sport played by 12 nations or so, the same nations which were earlier colonised by the British Empire. Agreed that we won the T20, but then cricket sometimes relies too much on chance rather than individual mental toughness. Even a tail ender can face a world class bowler and hit him for a six. But this can never happen in any olympic sport... skill, genetics and mental toughness play a superior role. Chance rarely comes into play. Nobody can win a 100m, win long jump, win gymnastics, win weight lifting, with just chance alone, chance rarely plays a part. We need to be tough mentally, take the example of Tendulkar, he is probably the most talented, technically sound, the best batsman ever in the history of criket, and yet...how many times has he won it for India, on a day when wickets fall down. I can't really remember. Contrast him with Michael Bevan, not so talented, but Bevan has won so many times for Australia. That's what I mean by mental toughness. Sad to know we Indian's are like this. The day we accept this and work on it, the day government funds other sports and sets up proper infrastructure to train people, is the day that we can even think about our medal chances. Till then it will be a dream.
GUYS!YOU KNOW THAT INDIA HAS FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR THE HOCKEY IN OLYMPICS WHERE THEY HAVE LOST IN THE OLYMPIC QUALIFYING MATCHES.
REALLY IT IS A SHAME FOR THE PEOPLE OF INDIA AS HOCKEY IS OUR NATIONAL GAME.
AND MORE THAN 80% OF PEOPLE ARE FOND OF CRICKET. AS GILCHRIST SAID,LET CRICKET BE A PART OF OLYMPICS FROM THE NEXT OLYMPIC GAMES ONWARDS. LET US SEE WHETHER WE WIN ATLEAST A BRONZE MEDAL.

Hey happy for your concerned for Hockey. But tell me how much do you know about hockey? Have you dribbled the ball. through bricks, do you know when we have last won the Gold. As regards Hockey, it has changed drasticaly. During 60's,70's & 80's, it was skill and now its power and speed. The new Genration is still taught the old method, Tell me how many leagues we have, who sponsers. Before IPL we had IHL, What happened? Like ICL it just got lost.Sorry to be personal, given a choice would you send your kid to play hockey or cricket. In Mumbai its played in pockets, Andheri, Malad, Bandra. Mostly where Christian community is dominant you would find people playing Hockey and Soccer. We say we are good in Cricket, then we should start with Base ball, we can be champions.

Since there is lot of public demand to have gold medals to get in OLYMPIC, UPA will do barter systen i.e. give gold medals and get eastern part of India!!!!!!!!!!!
Singh is a real King of barter system with the help of Amarsingh......the gold medal for the manipulation of numbers goes to MMS for 2008 Olumpic....
They should be able to decide for what they pay taxes and for what they do not pay taxes. Tax payers' money should not be wasted in pleasure jaunts for politicians' families. It should not doled out mercilessly to unscrupulously organizations such as madarsas so that it does not find its way to fund terror against the country.
Chek Republic its First gold as well as first gold of 29 Olympic game sweft in the women's 10m air rifle event by Katerina Emon and Our Country remain 29th and more in worsen situtaion.Would it be possible for Indians to bring any medal to give smiles to billions of our people here from Beijing????

what have you given back to your country except for going australia for livelyhood. Atleast the indian participants in the olympics are trying their best to give something to their country of birth. Dont be sarcastic!

MMS is well experianced in purchasing (MPs). So he will get some medals using his influence in china. Already his party leader is camping in china with family. So they may be barganing to purchase some medals.
i think until there is 100 percent reservations in olympics or a specail olympics of india, ruwada, congo afghanistan and bhutan india will never win anything

Even Then Its hard... Let these b...ds stop infighting and giving news interviews against cricket players and try their best to win in what they do.
She was in pondicheri 3 days back for a advertisement shooting. When all the players from across the world are practising very hard to achieve at the worlds biggest stage, She was acting in advertisement shooting. We can understand the mentality of the player, Money is the only aim for her.

....sania is all airy fairy but nothing to show. and what dress was she wearing in the opening ceremony. when every one else was dressed in indian traditional clothes, what was she doing in tracksuit? this was not her orning walk. first she disrespects the indian flag, and now the entire country! and then she says thers too much controversy! kick her out!
These are very sad Olympics given the fact that China ruthlessly suppressed Tibetan people and drove them out of their land. The country also occupies part of J&K. India should have boycotted these Olympics. Anyways, the shooters in this event from India only proved to be suckers!
The same rascals were smiling last nite as if they had won a medal! Other teams don't participate in the opening ceremony if their games are the next day....and did anyone see anjaliben at the opening ceremony happily recording the march at the opening ceremony.....are these guys serious of representing a great country?
