US OPEN 2008 AND NUMBER 8
by Damodaran on Sep 10, 2008 05:54 PM

US OPEN 2008 AND NUMBER 8
Roger Federer who won the men’s final and Serena Williams who won the women’s finalin the US Open 2008 final are number 8 persons by virtue of their birth.
Number 8 has highly influenced Federer.
Federer was born on August 8,1981.He is reported to have begun playing tennis at the age of 8.He is the first player to earn $8 million in prize money in one season. On February 26(2 6=8) 2007 Federer moved past Jimmy Connors’30-year-mark and began an unprecedented 161(1 6 1=8)consecutive week on top of the men’s rankings and eclipsed the latter. On July 8,2007 Federer created Wimbledon history by equalling the record of Bjorn Borg.
However, age 26th(which adds up to 8) has been comparatively less satisfactory for Federer.
Federer is the 17th (1 7=8)player in the open era to win a Grand Slam singles title at the age of 27.

Doesnt Federer remind you of Arbaaz Khan ? (Swiss Alps me bichhade huye judwaa)- I dont know who's profile I am raising when I compare these two- Arbaaz or Federer.. hehehe..
They even have identical sounding better halves:
Mirka vs Malaika

Pay OBEISANCE to Vijay, Ashok, Prakash Amritraj, Ramesh Krishnan, Mahesh Bhupathi.....once again

My vote 2 greatest tennis player goes to Vijay Amritraj. Federer and Sampras are not even his kids....Fed and Sampras need some serious lessons from Vijay

Thanks mann! For bringing me to my senses! I wonder, though, why would a sensible person want to get up at such a productive time and comment on stinking senses?
I certainly, prefer watching Federer in U.S. Open that Arbaaz in Bollywood!
Calm down, sweetheart, it pays to be humble and polite!!!

Dejovik is not fit enough!!!
by saurabh sharma on Sep 11, 2007 01:15 AM  | Hide replies

I watched dejokovik in many slams in this year....he has the fire power but does not have the fuel..he is not fit enough..wenever he plays 5 sets matches he complaints about the fatigue...he did that in wimbeldon and now in us open he was saying in semifinal that he is tired,...he has to work on fitness.....

i salute rafel nadal for his fitness..he played non stop in wimbeldon and came out at top in final...that was a terrific match...

about fedrer his stats stake his claim to the best of the world title easily...he just stamp s his authority on others...Its has come to this that taking a set from him is considerer an achivement...sampras never dominated world tennis like that...this man has just become untouchable....
he is the greatest...terrific enjoy!!!!

but one thing it will be good fior tennis if fedrer is challenged..otherwise tennis will lose its charm...

Federer - confidence supreme
by Sunil Yande on Sep 10, 2007 08:42 PM  | Hide replies

I have been watching Federer since his Wimbledon final in 2003 and have followed most of his matches since then. He seemed to be supremely confident and in great touch - this U S Open. He was unperturbed whenever he lost the first set (twice) and just elevated his game a notch - when required. Even against Djokovic, he started slow - guaging how things are going and just ratcheted up a notch in crux situations. Even if he had had lost the first set, I have no doubt he would have won with ease - in the end. He seemed to be in a zone and seemed untouchable and looking "divine" in his black outfit. Federer is truly one of a kind. I am sure Djokovic or another player will get to him in time to come; however, at present only Nadal seems to give him any trouble at all. I have not seen such total domination of the game from any other player since I started watching tennis - and I don't remember any other player as attractive to watch since McEnroe. McEnroe was exciting however he lived on "serve & volleys". Nadal is also exciting to watch and is more consistent than Federer. However, Federer has music in his movement, fluid and at ease, hardly breaking a sweat and displaying the occasional flash of brilliance - just when required. What more can you ask? As I like to say - "we are living in privileged times...."

Don't compare
by Vikas D on Sep 10, 2007 08:38 PM  | Hide replies

In 90s, when everybody used to compare Ivan Lendl or Stefan Edberg with Pete Sampras, people used to say that Pete does not have the kind of competition Edberg faced. Edberg had Lendl, Becker, Wilander, Courier among others as competitors. Lendl had it worse, he had to face John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Connors, Wilander, Edberg, Becker and Pat Cash among others. Pete never had such competition. He had a very inconsistent Agassi when he was in peak. He had Michael Stich, Thomas Muster, Goran Ivanisevic, Tim Henman - hardly the players whom u can compare with the great Becker or Mats Wilander.

Now same thing is happening with Federer and Sampras. After 10 years, some new guy will be winning everything and people will say, he never had to face the likes of Roddick, Nadal, Djokovic, Blake, Baghdatis, Hewitt, Safin, Davydenko because by then these guys will look like great players.

My take is DO NOT COMPARE players from different eras. Go by the premise that the tennis talent pool more or less remains the same. The more slams/titles u win, the greater you are. Go Fed Go!!!

today's tennis players r as good as the earlier ones. have u ever noticed the level of game these guys play when fed isnt the opponent?very tough n highly pro players they are.i dont think pete cd ve easily unsettled the likes of rod, hewitt, nalbandian, haas, djko etc.since others players managed few grand slam during pete's period we think the field was terrific.is it federer's fault that he wont lose as many as pete ? fed wont give many slam to others, does that mean these players rnt good enough?all of the pete's era grand slam holders may be thanking that they werent born a decade later!Fed probably wd be the fed-ex that he is in any other era as well.

Federer is like Autralia is in cricket..No one comes close in performance..
You are right we cannot compare..But it doesnt mean it's his fault..If Sampras or Federer dint have to face competition; it's not their fault..
It just means they are too good for the entire tennis world..the rest of the world needs work to do..

All without a retinue, to boot.

Please consider that his retinue for years has consisted of only a physical and mental trainer and his girl friend. He has no coach along at the tournaments and still, he manages to thrash the bottoms of all the Connors coached et al. This last named was one of the biggest a**holes of all times. He was no champion in the right sense. A typical American brat.

Don't worry. In a short time cricket will disappear from the top sport position and other sports will get the limelight.

IF

the BCCI bosses don't mend their present policies.

Yes TJ : But we could not watch live on TV as the transmission was of poor quality. It is indeed a shame that our National Game is totally ignored by the authorities concerned. We are all proud of the Hockey Team for their fantastic performance, blanking out Korea 7-2 in final. Our Hockey starts are doing such a wonderful job without any "endorsements". They are our real heros. Three cheers to Hockey.
