Its a pity that in order to be politically correct, women players get equal pay for unequal work and skill.

You guys are kidding..you think a gay like Federer is better than VIjay Amritraj...thats a joke....Federer can never dream of getting close to the class of Vijay. Wish he take some lessons from Vijay to match his charisma.

Difficult to say
by on Sep 10, 2007 07:29 AM  | Hide replies

Champions and great players are defined by their eras. Its would unfair ro say that Rog is the best and Pete is #2 or vice-versa. They have been dominant forces in their on eras, Pete had a great fighter in Agassi and Rog is still on a lookout for his nemisis, Nadal has a lot to do to bridge the gap and do it fast...

dude,
it is completely unfair to say that the other players are poor. davidenko, roddick, blake, nadal, djokovich are top class players and are duely ranked.
it is just shallow to think that there are no competitiors enough to federer and so he is ammassing trophies.
the thing is he is not giving anyone anychance.
pete, was great, yet he failed to make any impression in the french open.
on the contrary, federer reached the french open finals twice, and the last time he almost caughtup with nadal, just for the huge unforced errors he would have made it.
I put my money on federer to win the french and equal sampras next year.
there is simply no chance that any one can beat him in the near future with a greater collection of trophies.

Roger Federer (IPA pronunciation: [%u02C8%u0279%u0251.d%u0292%u0259%u0279 %u02C8f%u025B.d%u0259.%u0279%u0259%u0279][1]; born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss tennis professional, currently ranked World No. 1. His success has led many experts and peers to acknowledge him as the greatest tennis player of all time.[2][3][4][5][6][7] Federer has won twelve Grand Slam men's singles titles in 34 Grand Slam appearances (and has also appeared in a record 10 consecutive finals), three Tennis Masters Cup titles, and 14 ATP Masters Series titles.

In 2004, he became the first man since 1988 to win three of four Grand Slam singles tournaments in the same year: the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. In 2006, he became the first and only male player to repeat this feat in the Open Era and also the first man in the Open Era to win at least ten singles tournaments in three consecutive years (2004 to 2006).[8] He is also the only player ever to have won both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open singles titles in four consecutive years. In 2007, when Federer won his third Australian Open title, he became the only male player ever to have won three separate Grand Slam tournaments at least three times.[9] By winning Wimbledon in 2007, Federer tied Björn Borg's open-era record of five consecutive Wimbledon championships. Later in 2007 Federer captured his 50th title in the Cincinnati Masters tournament. In 2007 at the US Open, he reached his tenth consecutive Grand Slam singles final %u2014 an all-time record in men's tennis. By winning the 2007 US Open, Federer

Federer is no doubt the best on the circuit but recently it has been seen that in some matches he looked 'almost' human for e.g. the semis here against Davydenko. In comparison Sampras at his best was absolutely unbeatable and inhumanly perfect, case in point is when he was crying on court over the death of his coach cum mentor Tim Gullikson, he was still serving aces to Courier. My vote for the all time best still goes to Sampras. However this argument will continue and the present certainly lies with Federer ... congratulations to the Swiss master.

Hi,

Well Federer also looks pretty much unbeatable. If we see some of the grand slam finals, you will find a few scores that would read "6-0". Fedex beat Hewitt 6-0 in one of the sets and he has done that to a lot of people.

But Fedex has won a clay court tournament and has reached the final of the French open twice which is something Sampras could never achieve. So definitely Fedex is more complete than Sampras.

Another point is that Fedex is as comfortable playing from the baseline as he is at the net. Sampras's game was highly oriented around serve and volleying while Fedex can change gears whenever he wants to.
I think in terms of originality of shots, Fedex is more original than Sampras. Of course Sampras was a genius at the net but he was always suspect from the baseline while Fedex can rule and innovate at the baseline as well as the net.

But as you rightly pointed out, the debate will always exist amongst Sampras and Fedex fans. However, the tennis pundits are ready to put Fedex above all the "all time greats"; as the greatest ever!

Roger and Sampras are two of the greatest champions to have ever played tennis and we are fortunate that Roger immediately filled the big shoes left by Sampras in tennis and Grand Slam events. Their strengths lie in their overall game and a very high quality serve and return game that comes in any Crunch situation. They have the capability to raise to a different plane during the course of any Grand slam. Sampras has blunted the Challenges of the likes of Agassi/Becker et al for a longer part of his career and if not for the injuries(missed most of 1991 to 92 after winning 90' US Open and in later parts of 96-97) he encountered during his career , he would have added more GS to his kitty. Let's stop the comparison and appreciate these 2 players and their competitors for all the wholesome entertainment and providing high quality tennis

djokovich has a really good serve.
but for me his stamina is a question. he should keep himself free of injury...and am sure he might be a big force...
but i like nadal too. he has a lot of stamina and a wild horse... just that he is not good at hard courts... but he is very young...
it has to be seen hwo djokovich deals with him in clay.
