Pathetic to say the least

It's a pity that the organizers hit a BIG ZERO in welcoming Anand who is now the undisputed world Chess champion. He has made India proud and every one of us who love sport should feel proud about this. Probably, if Anand had been as part of our Indian Cricket team, the airport authorities/securities/sponsors et all would have been up on their toes to provide him cover. We should feel ashamed about this unfortunate happening and hope that this does not repeat ever again with anyone.

Idiot! Do not undermine what the great Anand has achieved. He has done India proud! Forget Kramnik or Topalov; can you win a match against me? Do not spoil the party here. Go to Mumbai and watch the 11 fools play in a comdey of game of cricket and monkeys staring at mighty lions and being beaten up all ends. You're fit to watch, talk and write cricket and only a fools' game like cricket. Get lost you idiot! Do not spoil the party here.

K chandru, dont challenge me, I can quite easily beat you in a game of Chess. You can have white pieces, you decide whatever opening you want to play Ruy Lopez, Petroff, Sicilian Najdorf, Pirc, Queens Gambit, French Winawer, Caro Kann, Kings Indian Slav or anything else that you wish to play. So where would you like to play Playchess, ICC, yahoo or over the board ? And I did not even mention cricket !

If you know great world champions of the past, like Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca and Alekhine you will understand what I mean

Is Anand an Indian any more, he Stays in Spain with his wife, he is just visiting India to complete his sponsors comitments and visit his parents. Let him base himself in India first, he himself has run away, why should he expect same reception as the cricketers(i m not vouching for cricketers here).

half knowledge is always harmful... (as in ur case)

anand stay in spain bcoz thr is more scope than india.. its not easy for anand to regularly fly betw indiia and european nations for matches...

also, thr is gr8 role of spain govt, media and public for anand to reach this position...

even then, spain govt offered him their citizenship several times, but he refused.. that shows his love for india.. whereever he play.. the flag and name of india is there... thus he is the proud son of both spain and india...

first we need to make india a better place, and then only we can raise such questions... india is an un-sportive nation.. its a bitter truth..

Nice, If at all Anand returns back to India after he retires from professional chess and when there is no scope for his contribution in chess as a professional player in europe he should be given a king size reception.

Very well said. Whenever there is some discussion about an NRI, some stupid a** comments like "you come to India first" can be seen.

It is for the love of India that makes people go away. If everyone stays in India there would be a severe resource crunch. EU and America has that plenty. Let us all go abroad and enrich our country with knowledge and wealth.

if an India comes up in life and achieves something, there are always idiots and stupids and jealous people like this non-sensical Ashish trying to ridicule them. We can move forward in a greater velocity only if we get rid of such inhibitions.
He is a born Indian. His Parents are staying in Inida. His wife is an Indian and he had refused citizenship offer by many European Countries as well as Russia. All he said was that he was eager to see what kind of reception he will get here. He never said that he wanted to same kind of reception. And even if he expected same kind of reception, there is nothing wrong in that. The problem with most of us (read Indians) is that we try to be too humble.. thats not because we are humble. Its bcoz we are very shy of exposing our achievements. Its a bit of Inferiority complex. We have to get rid of this IC to be respected globally.

MOST STUPID COMMENT EVER MADE
MAJOR CHESS EVENTS ARE CONDUCTED ROUND THE YEAR ONLY IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND TRAVELLING VERY OFTEN IS NOT POSSIBLE FROM INDIA.
IF ANAND IS NOT PATRIOTIS HE COULD HAVE GOT CITIZENSHIP FROM ANY EUROPEAN COUNTRY AND HE COULD HAVE PLAYED FOR THAT COUNTRY.
HE WOULD HAVE GOT MORE MONEY AND FAME BY THAT.
WHY SHOULD HE PLAY FOR INDIA?
ONLY TO RECEIVE SUCH STUPID AND IDIOTIC COMMENTS FROM WORTHLESS AND UNGRATEFUL INDIA!

if a Tamilian lives outside Tamilnadu or a Maharashtrian lives in any other state than Maharashtra should they feel any less as a Tamilian or Maharashtrian.

What matters is does Anand feel in his heart? Judging by the pride he takes in being an "Indian" champion it is very evident that he is just as much Indian as any of us.

There may be perfectly valid reasons to explain why he lives in Spain. So let us not stand in judgement of ones allegiences just based on their domicile.

whatever you say the fact remains that whenever Anand wins the championship the credit goes to India too. He represents India and no other country. We should be proud of him, because we do not have many sportsmen of Anand's calibre.

Yes, and they shud only concentrate on welcoming the sad a** loosers that are Team India.
Get a Life dude. If you dunno about his achievements, at least don't speak crap about him. He is the UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPION of chess. He staying in Spain or any country for that matter doesn't make him any less an Indian.
He'd been offered Spanish citizenship like a zillion times, but he's declined it every single time.
And he plays for personal glory? So what do the Cricketers play for son? Not degrading their achievement in South Africa, they are the biggest examples of guys playing for personal glory.

Hi Ram
So you mean to say that all our cricketers play for our Country is it! Good joke...
for any person first thing is to make a mark for himself in his chosen sport. The country tag comes after that. this is practical way of looking at things.

The point is, most of indians feel that hitting sixers and pace bowling are heroic acts, and they think chess is not, which is basically wrong. Chess requires immense mental strength, ability & courage as cricket(as our guys think)

Need for change...
by Super User on Oct 15, 2007 01:44 PM

I cannot understand this obsession with meeting/greeting sportsperson at the airport. Wouldnt it be better if Anand was quickly taken to a nice hotel, allowed to relax from the journey and arrange for a media brief a few hours later. Wouldnt that be more fruitful than catch him straight from a flight at the airport, which is a very claustrophobic environment even at the best of times.

What do you think? People will flock in hordes like Vish Anand is Elvis Presley? LOL! Of course, people have to be paid to pretend! More than half of them don't know him from Adam I bet! Give Indians one chicken biriyani and a 'quarter' old Monk rum, they'll come and chant for you anything, anywhere, anytime.

Good to know it. U also seem to be a highly proud jackass, talking trash like that. I'd love to know ur comments on the cricket team, they got such a huge reception in Mumbai after the T20 win but now Team Australia has thrashed us! And we still have Sreesanth "barking" without backing it up by performance. What u say to that then!??!

Shame on us bloody Indians. Even so called uncivilized people are better than us. Disgusting behaviour! In other countries, the cricket grounds don't even have a fence. And they are so relaxed and even come to the ground during lunch time to play. In our country, we have steel fences with barricades and police manning the crowds. Still we manage to throw garbage, pull the fence down and cause all sorts of damage. When will we become better behaved?

we will never become civilized becoz we are arrogant, selfish and self-centered society...we might travel in business class airlines but will throw empty chips bags right into the airport...we like to make everything around us unclean...only our house should be clean...rest doesn't matter...i had seen so many educated people jostling with each other inside an airline cabin for seats as if it is some govt. bus...its an embarrasing to be termed an indian anymore...

True. Burma and Somalia I bet are cleaner than India. India has ridiculous disparity in growth and cleanliness. So much disparity that it almost seems false and like a fairy tale. Like for example, Intel, Honeywell, Google offices awash with mirrors and granite, and what do u find just outside? LOL! Pot-hole ridden, drain water overflowing roads. And on these roeads, u find a BMW and a Mercedes. Pathetic! And we Indians see the Merc, Intel, BMW, etc, and call India shining! LOL! It is India whining, not India shining!
