good idea.
by Mat on Jun 19, 2007 07:39 AM

I think having F1 is a good idea.
At what cost is the next question. 10000 crores? With inflation...will be much more. What are the benefits for the common man.?How many poor souls will be dislodged to make the facilities? How much will be made by such a huge investment? How much will be pocketed by our babus and politicians?
Finally, can IOC or any other agency ,capable of organising?( the BCCI messes up on regular basis).
If its going to be a private agency ,funded exclusively privatetly,I think it will be a success. Moreover, the damn politicians will only have to be paid to keep their noses out. Atleast ,they wont keep poking their noses in ,and making money at the same time, and mess up the show!
After the WC closing ceremony in India, I am a bit reluctant to trust these politicians in doing anthing decently, especially after noting that they are already stretched with the next commonwealth games

It is nearly impossible
by mate on Jun 15, 2007 10:07 AM  | Hide replies

2009 is the year of General Elections and nobody would be interested in setting up F1. Remember the way Chandrababu was criticised when he planned F1 for Hyderabad. Similarly if the ruling party has any intention of setting up F1 circuit the oppn will put it first on its poll Agenda. When Farmers are committing suicide what is the need for F1 would be their argument and when Sonia hears about it, she will Veto the plan. Kalmadi in the meantime will make sure his pockets are full by promising some people for the infrastructre, making trips abroad in the pretext of meeting F1 boss etc. In case Congress doesn't return to power Kalmadi will immdly shift the blame on BJP and say they rocked the boat...shrewd politician!!

I government should not sponsor for F1 track just for the sake of F1 people , it should focus on providing world class facilities for CommonWealth and Indian Sports so that the Current Sport Persons can bring laurels to INDIA at international level , than F1 will sponsor themselves these prosopals. INDIA does not require F1 , its F1 that requires INDIA for its business expansion.

great move
by vinoth yoganathan on Jun 14, 2007 08:53 PM  | Hide replies

it is a great move by ioa to bring f1 to india.but one wonder the cost involved in the progress.is it right to invest such huge amount in sport where no indian capable of achieveing success.instead of too mch of money on fi race infrastructure .i want the ioa to invest money on sports like hockey or football so that india can emerge as one of the strongest froce in the world over a period of time.

yea u r right vinoth.
ioa should realise that they shall invest in the sports in which indians are good like chess, table tennis, hockey, cricket, volley ball. There are cases that the chess master Hari krishna has informed the media that he's going to retire since there are no sponsors. Look at the situation.
What i am worrying on is that the money is spending in wrong causes.
previously sania got many plots and money from AP CM.

when there'll be a change god knows.

The mega international events pushes Govt.
by Suhas Kamble on Jun 14, 2007 08:07 PM

Every infrastructure work would not be done on time if there won't be such big event.
Now Delhi govt. and Central Govt. knows that there is mega event in 2010 and therefore they are pushing to do work done on time but in case of other cities like Mumbai and Banglore the infra. work could be delayed as there is no time limit.

Kalmadi is a criminal
by Humanvalue on Jun 14, 2007 07:34 PM  | Hide replies

He should be banned from participating in any capacity in Indian sports. What has F1 got to do with IOA (the great organisation that aponsors free olympic visits to Kalmadi and family at government expense). Totally sick!
