itzz indeed a gr8 news.. Yezzzz, terz lotza money 2 b invested in it.. but the returns also will be very high. the number of spectators watching the race live will be more than a lakh and 50% of it'll be foreigners. if we check with the Tour Operators, we'll be able to find out the number of Indians who visit Malaysia to watch the grandprix. since nobody is interested in Cricket these days, corporate world will be again investing in F1. well... dunno wthr Kalmadi has put some efforts from his side, but if it happens in India all the credit goes to one and only Mr.Mallya..
It is another opportunity to bleed the entire country and spend it in a tamsha for the pleasure of crooked delhiites. If it is being staged around Delhi it must be from funds collected locally or through pvt participation. Not a penny should go from the central coffers.

Do you feel that the promoter of the F1 event is fool to give the nod for the race to be held in India. It is India which needs F1 not Ecclestone and Suresh Kalmadi along with Chandrababu Naidu were waitingfor around a year to get an appointment with the organisers. It will definitely help, at least criket will get a competitor.

Dear Ethos K,
Car itself comes broken into pieces but as a result of the technology it demands and equipment and personnel, i'm surprised that they manage in 10 jumbos only

im afraid you do not know enough abt F1, Ethos K.
yeah, pretty much. 10 jumbos ferry all the equipment of the formula cars, the computer gear, the drivers and the crew. its literally a circus that the formula one guys manage.

Dear Ethos, Do you think the 22 cars could be transported in a single Jet & the teams who even gaurd what their drivers eat will allow that? I think India is not yet infrastructurally geared up to have an event like this. But I am sure booking my tickets for the same if it does materialises!!!
RE:F1
by Ethos K on Jun 14, 2007 05:42 PM
i never said all are carried in one jet...my whole point here being that...are u trying to say indian airports cant handle 10 jets ka parking space...if these jets are ready to pay parking fees, indian airports will allow them to be parked anywhere...!! because parking fees are anyday higher than landing charges...!! if india can host the commonwealth in 2010, i think f1 is no big deal for 2009
the last time such an idea was launched, was around 4 yers ago by Chandrababu Naidu...and our honourable sarkar politely told him to stop talking rubbish as it costs a whopping
10,000 CRORES
to create F1 standard tracks, facilities, garages etc.
I dont think the Govt. has a clue about what Kalmadi is doing. No one is going to sponsor this, especially with the Commonwealth Games happening in 2010
RE:its expensive.....who'll pay??

F1 seems to have a much bigger fan base in India than 4 years ago. Sponsors will be willing to pony up a larger sum of Money. Especially after the cricketing debacle, I bet they will be glad to put money in a sport where 1) there is no risk of a sudden loss of interest (a la CWC 2007) 2) there is true international exposure for our nascent multinationals 3) the fans following it are relatively affluent In addition there is the benefit for the government in investing in infrastructure. That said, the ost might be too high, and I doubt if Kalmadi is capable of conducting a realistic cost - benefit analysis given his track recrord (the double entendre was not intended)

There is an official betting everywhere in F1. The seating capacity is 100K times Rs.1000. Income from Billboards and signages, The food joints, the hotels surrounding this place, 70000people working for this company. The 10,000crores spent on this project will be mainly land, track and stand for viewers, which is again creating wealth for some companies.

abhiroop...vijay mallya will happily sponsor it..mainly coz..in f1..liquor advertising isnt banned...and he actually ends up errecting the stadium, he will call it the kingfisher pit..wat more can he ask for...and he was the guy who was hellbent on bringing F1 to india...so he surely will play the major role...IOA is jus the intermediary between bernie and the goverment...
F1 which was earlier scheduled for a race in India 2009 has now been canceled.
The official carrier of logistics & tourists, the great Indian airlines has decided to continue with their strike all the way till 2009.
Since the Government won't be able to gear-up with the required Infrastructure in such short time, it has been decided in the Executive meeting that we will consider the F1 proposal for year 2020. This is by when India is suppose to become a Super Power of the world.
The sting operation done by Thelka has a different story to report. The powerfull cash rich BCCI has lobbyied with the Government not to all F1, as it fears this game will eat up its Cash bank. The Cricket players had agreed to share their Advertisement Revenue with BCCI for this lobbying exercise.

Kamsten Yangte, who cares if Shanghai is 10 years ahead, we want to reach 10 ahead of Shanghai and we want the whole India to do so...so whats ur problem?

I dont understand why lots of people are negative about the whole thing. Does India really need it...well does India need a bunch of mad characters playing cricket...the mad indians like us who watch the game..are we earning any revenue...no right...?? then why cricket...its the same way for F1...maybe ya no industries will directly earn from this...but indirect earnings outweigh it. if we keep thinking does India need it, then we will never even have a Olympics held in India. Will the common man benefit from Olympics...no they wont...!! look at the broader perspective of things...india gets known on a world stage...indirectly FDI would come in. Reading half the comments on this story, it seems like we shud have remained post 92...a closed economy...then even rediff and the internet wudnt have been in India.
And for those who dont believe the story on F1, read this...
The race wud be held around Oct 09...it wont be a street race (or a pothole race as some people call it)...a stadium with a race track will be built by then, and the race would be in Delhi.

by prakash mohanasundaram on Jun 14, 2007 05:01 PM
Surprisingly, no one is considering Chennai which i presume already had a race track. Is it still existing?
RE:F1 in Chandni Chowk or F1 near Charminar!
by Ethos K on Jun 14, 2007 05:05 PM
chennai doesnt have a racetrack as such...it is in the outskirts where the cars that race are esteem's icon's etc.., yes professional racing it is...but then these cars can take these roads...but for a low suspension costly car like the f1 ones...they cant drive on those tracks...for them a new track and stadium has to be built...and transporting the cars from the airport to the race track will be a costly scenario, so they can only have the race in cities which have an airport within vicinity of the tracks..
