Role model or just model?
by Khushi on Feb 18, 2007 10:19 PM

most girls in India are not half as lucky as Sania to get the opportunity for pursuing their hobbies, forget the chances of playing tennis.... when someone like Sania Mirza does something as great as she did two yrs back, she becomes the ray of hope to all those struggling girls.... but then she very easily lets everything go like sand escaping from the grip, being totally distracted.... shez not just a model, but a role model... she must remember that....

Let her Play & Loose!!!!!
by Raman Chugh on Feb 17, 2007 03:31 PM

She is not taking anyones place as tennis is not a team sport. If she is happy with her performance then its her problem. Don't watch her & switch off the TV when she is there endorsing a product. Its her loss if she plays badly.

Mirza is Kournikova of Indian Tennis
by ramrahim butteridli on Feb 17, 2007 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

Sania Mirza is India's answer to Anna Kournikova - less of talent and loads of attitude and glamour. A few years ago Kournikova was compared to Sharapova, and now does anyone know where she is nowadays? the last i saw of her was making out with Enrique Iglesius in his music video...can't remotely remember of anything to do with tennis though

Good comparison with Kournikova! But Kournikova was talented as well, but was focused on things other than teniss. Thats why she faded away.

Sania may go the same way or perhaps after 2 or 3 years, her mum may get her married off (ofcourse to me!) and then Sania will move from the teniss court to the TV screen.

unfair comparison... india has not produced any single female before mirza who could at least made it to top 35 of the world ranking... so obviously she will be hyped.. and glamour comes with women tennis .. u can't avoid that dude!! Let her set a benchmark for nurturing talents.

by crazy guuuuuy on Feb 17, 2007 09:26 AM

I agree with you guys...
Yeah she is gud for nothing..Everyone keeps on thinking that she will win this time..But this "this time" would never come and only come in her dreams. She just is beautiful and hence became cynosure of media and they hyped her like never before...Its better she stops playing tennis and does some ad campaigns which she is good at....

Sania must have a foreign coach
by bharat on Feb 17, 2007 08:53 AM  | Hide replies

I strongly believe that Sania should hire a foreign coach who has the experience of coaching players at the highest level. I am sure Sania has the potential to be among the top 10 or 15 players of the world. Without proper and systematic coaching from a specialised coach, I am afraid that Sania will finish her career as the best tennis player from India who, alas, could not make that much of an impact at the international level. It seems that Sania is fairly satisfied with what she has achieved and that is disappointing.
