My friends, Tennis is a game. And like in all games, sometimes you win and sometimes you don't.But what is important is YOU give your best. And that is what Sania did.She is GREAT. And she has done us all proud. And we wish her all luck to keep playing, like a true sportswoman. colonelrajan@rediffmail.com

Not achieving anything is better than eating tax payers money like a parasite. She was given crores worth of land and money by the Andhra govt. That money would have helped hundreds of poor people.
Sania has been in the circuit for over 2 years and hasnt made any progress. She has consistently been dissapointing over the last 18 months or so. Its time for us to realise that she is past her peak. I recollect in an interview a while ago, Sania said that fitness is not her strong point and she relies on her service and strength to win matches. Any top professional sportsperson must be out of their minds to say fitness is not their strong point! Also neither her service nor strength is anywhere close to Sharapova, Clijsters or Mauresmo.
I never though she could every win a grand slam..her game is too wayward and lack to skills and service is horrible...so its time for indians and her to realize that she is not going to reach top 10 ever in her life..

I think its better said "Learn English and then write" followed by a fullstop. And applying you logic back on you - Dont you think you need to improve your English before criticizing others?

Sorry I cant insult English by gettinbg people like you trained :)) Try somebody else Mr. Shake-Ass-Peare :))
If you dont know how to speak or write good English - better not pass comments on others ... I am not good at English and HENCE I DONT FIND FAULT WITH OTHERS ENGLISH :))

Come on give her some time she is only 20 I agree that she has flaws in her tenis but nobody is perfect,If you look at william sisters they just play power tennis, you cant expect to see steffi graf all the time ,yes agreed that there is a lot of hype about her. I think she should realise it that tennis is the one that is giving her that limelight, so its time for her to think seriously about her game and try to shed of few pounds and just go for a kill. Just focus on the game and I am sure she can acheive it bcos not only me but whole nation expects her to do well and I hope she will.

It is unfair to critisize her badly.True her service is terrible and she needs to improve her backhand and her oncourt movement if she needs to win consistently. But top level WTA and ATP tour is extremly tough and harsh. But she has achieved what no other indian done so far.

also i think she has lost the time...age 17 and 18 is when a good ladies player breaks into top 20 atleast.now she is 20 and reaching 21 and she cannot even make a impression in domestic competition "Banglore open"..
this is pathetic guys.sania has done what no indian has done before. shes won an wta event. i do agree that shes not been consistent but berating her like this smells of hypocrisy. players like federer took some time to reach where they are now. just because of her fantastic first year, the expectations skyrocketed.everybody who understands tennis will know that she has it in her to reach the top.so stop criticizing and start encouraging instead.. she is one talent we cant afford to lose

avik,
I understand that you are big fan of Sania, but you have to understood that she do not deserve that kind of attention on the basis of her performance. By doing that we deprive other good sports person from what really they deserve. Think about Ms. K Malleswari & RVS Rathore who won medal for India in Olympics, where are they, why people don%u2019t talk about them. Winning a single medal in Olympics is very very tough. Now compare it to Sania's performance. You will get the answer that why she has double the critics compare to her admirer.

Hi Saunak & Other Sania haters,
Hi Saunak,
Sania did not ask for the adulation for herself. She did not say that dont give it to people who play khokho or kabaddi or weightlifting.
Dont show interest in tennis. Please go and make the stands full during the national games events kabbadi, khokho, and weightlifting. Boost the morale of those players by buying tickets and seeing them play. Then corporate companies will take interest and start sponsoring them too.
Sania is not playing for anyone else, she is playing for herself. She does not have to prove anything to you guys. Winning and losing are part of any game.
Please pick up the tennis racket and play a game. Or even better, make a resolve today to make a Peas, Chapatti or Sonia out of your kid by dedicating yourself to that and ensuring to make them number one.
It is tough yaar. Let Sania play her game. We have not helped here in any way to reach the position that she has reached. So let her play and in the process make money by endorsements so that she can get proper coaching by coaches who mould players to be number one.

Thanks Jhony Bhai, the most sensible comment i have read till now about sania. its important to realise tennis is an individual sport. some of these comments about national representation in tennis are only somewhat valid when it comes to davis cup kind of matches. and sania did not stand up and say 'please make a hero out of me'. let her just play her game and improve at it.

Mad Dixit and Khushi, You both of you start playing tennis and win grand slams with out showing interest at modelling. Set an example which others can follow. Don't pass useless comments over others. Sania is definetely better than many other players if not the best.
RE:stop this nonsense
by Mad Dixit on Feb 16, 2007 08:53 PM
Sania is nothing but a hyped celebrity created by our media. Every time she loses she comes up with pathetic excuses. Sure, winning and losing are part of sports, but then why throw excuses? Like our cricketers, she is more interested in modeling and glamor. Cricket and tennis are hyped up games. Nobody bothers about Indian games like kho-kho and kabaddi.
RE:RE:stop this nonsense
by avik dasgupta on Feb 16, 2007 09:00 PM
really?? when did tennis become a hyped up sport? it was only after the emergence of players like paes, bhupathi and sania that tennis became popular in india.unlike tennis, kabaddi is not a spectator sport. so the question of it being as popular as tenni does not arise.give her a chance. this is only her 3rd year as a proffesional.
RE:RE:RE:stop this nonsense
by vikram singh on Feb 16, 2007 09:40 PM
kabaddi is not a spectator sport? wtf? first of all kabaddi is not supported by all indians. we always want what comes from west. i mean everything. anything indian is considered "whatever" but people who like kabaddi will support it no matter where they are. it is our job to show it to the world if we want something to be recognized. come to Canada & check out how we play kabbdi here. you'd be amazed!
Kabbadi, wrestling, football, hockey etc. are men's sport!!strength and honor...
all we watch and talk about is cricket. i dont mind it but common....one match lasts a day.
all the indians should start practising hockey from now on that way atleast we'll WIN a gold medal in olympics...

Same thing applies to you too - Achieve half as much as the others and start typing on rediff
We know she cannot win a grand slam or even reach the quarters, but when she plays in India, we expect she at least reaches the finals, but she always disappoints.... I think Padma Shri was too early for her

I have the right to criticize her because she is earning her money from the tax I pay Razzak - May be the Tax Evaders like you may not fel the pinch - know what I mean?

Mr. Riaz, most girls in India are not half as lucky as Sania to get the opportunity for pursuing their hobbies, forget the chances of playing tennis.... when someone like Sania Mirza does something as great as she did two yrs back, she becomes the ray of hope to all those struggling girls.... but then she very easily lets everything go like sand escaping from the grip, being totally distracted.... shez not just a model, but a role model... she must remember that....
RE:RE:hi every one
by Rajneesh Mehta on Feb 16, 2007 09:47 PM
What about our depression? She earns about 8 - 10 crores a year and gives excuses like god didnt want her to win today? Wake up man. She is a declining force and lets accept the fact.
RE:RE:RE:hi every one
by riaz razzack on Feb 17, 2007 01:03 AM
OK WILL ASK HER TO SHARE SOME WITH U COZ UR A BEGGAR AND NEED HELP CHEAPO BE REALISTIC SUPPORT AN INDIAN
I really wish Sania succeeds everytime she steps on the court. She is disappointing everytime since the game against Serena Williams where she gave a good fight. It's time for her to retire at the peak and focus on developing new talent through the tennis school which she is requesting the Andhra Pradesh Government for.
RE:Time to retire
by mohandas pai on Feb 16, 2007 08:39 PM
we should retire at the point when people ask why he/she retired .... not wait upto the point when people ask when he/she will retire ....... applies to sport or speeches or executive positions in corporates equally....
