Poor performance
by Pankaj kumar on Aug 30, 2004 02:06 PM

the indian contingent came backwith a medal again-this time a silver.might be gold next time.time has come when every sportspeorson should introspect and find their own shortcoimings in the tactics.they should come out of the blaming game.evry win is players' and every lost is coach's.come on guys prepare yourself for the next games,if you think that you are not going to win medals, for the country's name sake don't go.
prepare well and try to win, and then only got for it. dont waste the people's money.

lack of support to Dhanraj pillay by some selfish team players is the sole reason for indias poor performance in hockey.

Athens:India's Best & Worst

Competition is said to bring out the best in any field of activity be it Business,Work,Sport or Education. Our Sportspersons, barring those 'select few'who improved upon their personal best performances during this Olympics, have belied this confidence that 1 billion countrymen had placed on them. Our Govt:(meaning-Sports Ministry)should decide that we stop participation in International Events for a minimum of 4-years,and pick only those who are motivated to improve for specialised training,in any sport.Coaches should be made accountable for failures, and rewarded for successes.Stop using East European & unknowns as Coaches.Look to Beijing 2008 with optimism...Best Wishes from an Optimist.

Shame on us !!
by Anil on Aug 30, 2004 01:50 PM

Its shame for a country of more than 100 crores of population. Can't win even 1 gold medal !!
We talk big and do really small, it has been a habbit now, after every four years one of us write these comments as i'm writing it today and dunno if somebody gives a look to it !! I dont understand why the Indian squad is sent and wasted crores of money when they can't perform. These offcials like Suresh Kalmadi, Sunil Dutt have they ever played any game? Its no point ruling since years and not even getting a medal. I dont think we dont have talent..what requires is proper guidance, mentorship and flow of funds ..not int he pockets of administrators and politiicans but in favour of players and their families. Untill and unless officials sitting at the higher positions are not removed and in their place players who are well educated and know the pros and cons of games should be asked to administer. Its all hit and trial so why not to try it. We are trying this old concept sicne 10 years now or may be more..whats need of the hour is change...thats the only thing which should be constant.Keep trying new things and we can see the changes after 5 years from now in Olypics 2008 in China. Ciao !!

This would be the reason..
by Kathir on Aug 30, 2004 01:31 PM

It's very true that Olympics speaks the matter of WINNING a lot than just competing.. A crew of 75 sportians is back with only one silver.. This is not only because of the lack of performance, but how seriously we took the sports and games in our country.. Some way shoule be found out to fill the tally in a decent way atleast in 2008.. wat else we can say..??

Whats stopping out great nation?
by Mayank on Aug 30, 2004 01:30 PM

What do the official look when selecting a team to represent the India in the worlds greatest sports arena bribe money, looks, familiy background, education, english proficiency or maybe the chaplusi offered by the sportsperson. All of the above explains the performance of the teams in the olympics or any stage for that matter. No complains for the efforts put in by the athletes, they are the national pride. But us being proud enough? I am sure India will perform better when are playing in India as the official cannot enjoy a free foreign ride, maybe then they will concentrate on the job at hand. I am here in Australia, as self proclaimed sports world on it own, and when I have to see one fo the best hockey player Dhanraj Pillai agonising over the coaches personal vendata, that does shatter the pride one hold in their heart. We reckon Cricket is our greatest sport, how many world cups have we won in the last 20 years? maybe some funds and efforts be passed to other sports, who's there to stop our great nation?

India's failure in Olympics
by Subbu on Aug 30, 2004 01:30 PM

I still feel there is dirty politics going on in the selection of athletes for olympics. This is the right time training of athletes is handed over to the Army or Navy. Only armed personals need to save India from enemies as well as from such humiliations. And most of these athletes are par time athletes and office goers. So there must be athletes entirely dedicated for this cause then only India can think of winning a gold medal. The basic attitude of the Indian sporting system right from schoolings need to be overhauled.
