Well! yes its correct, last time we won a bronze, this time its silver. Agree or not India's performance has been hapless, be it in hockey, be it in weight-lifting. Only reason to smile came in the form of Anju and Rathore. Anyways, better luck next time is all we can say...
Indian media has been very critical of our sportspersons, yes it was disappointing but didnt they do better than anyone in india in the past? if they bettered our national mark and their personal best in such a tense and intensly competively environment I think they did more than what was expected. I also think that our performance was not bad, my congrats to each and every athelete for being there cause I couldnt and how I wish. regards naresh az,usa
Despite the shame and ignominy suffered in Athens 2004 the honorable sports minister goes one step ahead in shamelessness by declaring the performance of India "NOT BAD". If this is the mindset of these people then rest assured that in coming 150 years India will win not more than single medal each olympic.Till these politicians are at the helm of the sports organization nothing is going to improve my dear Indians. Time has come to show these politicians the door and let a true sportsperson take charge.
Well here you go...when you have SPORTS minister like Sunil Dutt what else can you expect. thses individual are those kind of personality who always love to be in power after declining from cinema he got struch to this prestigious sports ministy. Ho can he be a sports minister at the first place????? He has no experience...physically he is old and overweight, he is not enthuasistic and most important of all he doesnt have self respect <--- how can he still hold the chair after this disaterous and terriable perfomance by this Billion plus people nation. and Sunil ji Maia jones have won some medals before ...and yes please dont give thise resources and money funnda. Is Russia who finished second is a rich and eveloped nation? what about Cuba an Romania? and you forgot Ukraine Bulgaria etc etc well I dont know what else to say...you know you can still be on that "Kurshi" because it can happens only in INDIA. Sunil fron UK
Mr. Sunil Dutt is senile and bereft of any energy and therefore finds our performance is Olympics adequate. Shame on him! Senegal, Ethopia, Kenya win golds-even slovenia and we are yet to win one!!
- "It (India's performance) was not bad. There has been a definite improvement in their performance. It is not easy to finish fourth, sixth or even seventh in the Olympics," - If this is the attitude of the sports minister, who is supposed to pull up the athletes for failing to deliver the goods, then God save Indian sports. As long as we are content in patting our own backs for attaining 6th and 7th positions, the athlete has no incentive in going for the first three positions.
-"Look at Marion Jones of America, one of the richest countries. She finished fifth after availing all the possible facilities. But our sportsmen have limitations in the form of funds and facilities. They will definitely do well in coming days," - this is selective blindness. we ahave athletes from Sudan, ethiopia are able to win medals for their countries and does Mr.Dutt say to that. The doing well in future, we have been hearing it for the last 50 years or so. and the performance has been getting worse. from a single gold medal(in hockey) to a no medals, to one bronze to one silver medal. This kind of masochism doesn't help the cause of sports in India.
Please for God's sake.... if our h'ble sports minister thinks that performance of India wasnt bad ... i think standard of Indian sports will never rise .... as we are setting very bad standards for ourselves
I know Dutt can not feel proud because of his daily tributes to an Italian lady. He must be feeling numb after serving all these years for Congress party for his personal benefits.
Is he trying to say that India has done well inspite we have won only one medal out of one billion population?
He is a Bollywood Mor'n he cant smell what is a good performance or bad performance.
This is the worst example of the 'chalta hai' attitude that has prevented Indians from striving to acheive the best. If the performance of the Indian contingent in the Athens Olympics was not bad, would Mr. Dutt care to clarify what exactly he understands by bad performance. Mr. Dutt may be a celebrated actor and a respectable politician, but please leave sports administration to professionals. High time too.
