Creditable Performance by Indians in Olympics in 2004
by Venkat on Aug 29, 2004 11:11 PM

Hello All

Over its a Creditable Performance by Indians in Olympics in 2004. Being an Indian I am Proud of my playeres who participated in Athens 2004. Especially Mr.Rathore who got SILVER Medal in shooting competetion.

It was a good show by Indian in Track & Field and Long Jump. They tried their BEST and deserve the position in FINALS.

LEE & HASH played a guresome match but finally bow out of competetion.

Our Weightlifters were diverted my politics and Coach. Govt has taken to good decisions to SACK the coach. A good coach shd be like a MENTOR/PHILOSOPHER who shows the way to his players

Our Hockey deserves the 7th place Coz too much of politics in IHF, misunderstading among players and management,Coach etc. If they might have solved this problem earlier I am sure they might easily got GOLD

Certainly Anjali miss BULL EYE...Its bad luck for her.

Obviously in a event like OLYMPICS, participate counts rather than winning a meadal. But in modern life this has completely changed. Country Invest lot of money on players coz to perform well and get a medal to their country.
Hope, Indian Olympic Federation and Sports minister shd learn a lot from olympics
JAIHID

Sports India?

Continuation of my previous comment. All the above mentioned reasons were easy to point out but just think about it is easy to put blame on others. Even after 50 years of independence our country is still marred by communal and personal differences and exploitation by elite few who now call themselves politicians. I ask why such people get to that position in the first place. Even if they get to those high positions why dont they make sure they do a good job in promoting their region and country in general. Why arent they nationalists? I think the main reason for India not perform in any international events is simple. We are not nationalists. All the players play for their own personal benefit and out of selfishness. One or two examples of people out of 1 billion people can not serve as a defence of the above idea. We do not care about out country. But why should we the foundations of the country are so weak. There is so much diversity that it is very difficult to keep everyone together.

The above mentioned argument has some roots and it cannot be rejected. It has to hold. But then in giving this answer to my friend I was shaking and sad and nervous. Then why do we call ours

Our performance was not good

I dont agree with Mr.Dutt, because just getting one silver doesn't make a good performance. Many players came to Greece just as visit and many players did not qualify till finals. If he is very serious about our sports he should make sure that for next olympics preparation starts from now only.

Sports In India
by ss on Aug 29, 2004 10:45 PM

I would like to first point out that though Mr Sunil Dutt is a capable person and a well respected artist of India, I still can't believe that he was given the sports ministry. Its been a tradition of India to have wrong people at the wrong places at the wrong time. Its just one of continuation of that traditions.

Secondly, Why is India so bad in athletics and sports in general? This question is very difficult to answer for GOD let alone ordinary people like us. But I will try and give it a shot. Recently at LSE I was asked by one of friends who happened to be from France, despite having such a huge population why India does perform as good as China or at least as good as Morocco or Thailand or any country who at least is recognised in one discipline and wins medals in them. I didn't have any answer for the person and I didn't know what to say to him. Shall I tell him that our country is full of corrupt people who for their own interest and benefit don't want to promote others or shall I say that our country has been so unlucky over centuries that foreigners have looted us, exploited us and we do not have money to provide adequate facilities to our youngsters.

Didn\'t know that Sunil Dutt too a big moron
by Sohan R Ranjan on Aug 29, 2004 10:37 PM

It is a shame that Sunil Dutt considers India's olympic performance not shameful. He considers that he has done enough by hicking allowance to $50 a day, and shacking the coaches not for their job not done, but for not reporting to him about the doping test failures. No wonder hin son is a goon and a a gangster whom he supports so much.

Hay Sunil I am speeachless at your comment. I never belived that India did a bad performace.
Now I can speak openely about it. Because I have the backing of genius like you !!!
If American kids did well its because they are eating american rice !!!
Marion Jones - Don't even dare to mention that she was the star in Sydney. She was not even fit for this time. Whatever Marion is not getting 1/10 of the media coverage what Anju or Usha got. Funds spendign 100 crore for a silver !!!
Indians has pretty cheap excuses.
Corrupted people don't expect anything better when compared to world class performance.

Sunil please come out with more truth. I need more and more laughs !!
The media itself is ready to chew whatever spit to them !!!!

Its totally bad performance from India
by JitheshDev on Aug 29, 2004 10:01 PM

Mr. Dutt are you blind, when you see the performance of Indian contigent none of participants were serious about thier events, they are not evven bothered to make an effort.Only one thing you may be focussing is silvera medal, relay teams final, anju's long jump, tennis doubles, what is with other games, forget about everything. Hockey is our national game did they won any medal forget abt gold or silver,at least a bronze medal,no their performance was one of thw worst compare to other country teams,it was thier luck they won against korea.Indian contigent was not thinking they are spending 100 crores for this participation, if you give a part of this money to poor farmers who are comitting suicide, then there wont be much poverty.I think for next olympics its better not to sent indian contigent, let this money get utilized for national development such as in agriculture and science and technology and other infrastructure. Poor countires like thailand, phillipines ...were performing well and our boxers gr8 to know that national coach has given them drugs. Its really pity for our country. One billion population has one silver medal. Its really shame Mr.Dutt. Its better to sack D'pillay also.

The Olympics are winding today, and I am still awaiting the result of the marathon. India, with a population of over a billion people, took home one silver medal. The ratio is fantastic. Sunil Dutt should be ashamed in praising the failures of the Indians on the basis of riches of a nation. If USA is a rich country financially, India is a rich country spiritually; but, India is a failure because it is a land of favouritism, a country where only the rich enjoy facilities and the poor have no chance. So, it is wrong all the way to praise one person. Praise where praise is due. Now that India has a full fledged Ministry of Sports, what are its plans for the future. There are Afro-Asian Games, Asian Games, and the Winter Olympics due in the next two years. What are the projected events in which India can excel, except for Kabbadi and Cricket. India should not sit on its past laurels like Hockey, it should start working on ice-hockey. We don't need chess players, or cricketers who occupy more sports columns than the long distance runners - those poor who run to and from one village to next for education. That is how the Kenyan long distance runners were born and there is no looking back
