Hello, This is really a great initiative on behalf of our Indian army. Can Rediff give the contact name/address/ phone no. if public wants more details about this program. There are scores of atheletes out there who have even got medels in international competition who can't afford to go forward due to lack of funds. Infact there a friend of mine who's son got Silver medal in Asian swimming champoinship (Junior level)held in Macau, China just a few days back but had to shell out part of the money from his pocket to send his son to represent the country....Ofcourse our govt. gave only part of the expenses. For such ppl this is a golden opportunity. Please put in these columns who can be contacted to get more details about the program.
winning medals is not the only objective for competing.if the indian olympic commettee does not have it on it's objectives they are sane. as far as the army is concerned it maybe should continue being the strong arm of the state and continue to enforce the tyranny of the so called democratic country. it's a shame that the masses of our country are so deluded that they let the those in control exploit their nationalism to such great proportions.
Well done, it time sports was taken out of the control of stupid babus and officials whose sole purpose in life is to sit on their bum and plan foreign jaunts. Its a shamful state of affairs that a nation of more than a billion cannot produces a single gold medalist. The state of the govt sport institutions is pathetic and spending is only done for political and personal advancement. Well done once again. The private sector should also partner with the Army to contribute to our Nations sporting glory.
dear sir, it was really heart warming to read about the efforts taken by the indian army to revive medal tallys in the Olympics. We are such a great nation and had this operation been started earlier we would have attained the glory that was due to us earlier.i am very happy this project is not under private people as they make a fool of themselves as well as us. wishing you all success in this operation. We know The Indian Army will never fail us. Pearlin
Great going. I am sure there are many more initialtives in stock. What Navy and Air-force are planning to offer? Why don't the IIT's and IISc join and make such initiative on academic and industrial front. Most of the research activities in India are for future use. That too the results are mainly used outside india, specially USA. Why we don't have results that helps to solve everyday problems. Take the example of Indian traffic. The only solution given to it now a days is flyovers. Costly isn't it? What statisticians are doing? Why not traffic arrival is modelled properly and statistical traffic signals are placed? If we can manage it on internet, why not on roads? There are many more in stock just we ahve to sit and discover.

Its really great to note that Indian Army is doing something for sports.
The problem with our system is that sports is not given due importance , during schooling.
I have been fortunate to have done my schooling in a Military School, having sports infra structure which other schools and institutions can only dream of.
During my schooling days , the level of sports/games in the school ws of highest standards with professional coaches (from Army) for Boxing, Swimmimg, Basketball etc...
However after 12th standard, the priorities changed and professional degrees became more important. Sports thus took the back seat.
I wish Army does something in this regard
I also appeal to other organisations and Corporate offices to come foreward
