Rafale conundrum
by Nithyananda Kamath on Nov 16, 2018 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

The most significant exchange during the SC proceedings was between the CJI and the IAF chief. CJI asked if there was no acquisition of new aircrafts since 1985 and the IAF chief replied in affirmative. Just imagine driving a 35 year old car on highways with modern cars whizzing past you. The IAF pilots must have had similar feelings. It was Vajpayee government which recognised the need and initiated the process some time in 2003 but UPA stalled acquisition till 2014. One can imagine why Modi had to abandon the whole process and make urgent acquisition. Congress is now trying to abort this also. The SC is seized of the matter and even when the matter is under their consideration the fake news bandwagon of congress chugs on merrily with Rediff a willing accomplice.

What the Air Marshal forgot to mention is that even if there were NO imports of planes after 1985, we still got over 200 SUKHOI 30 manufactured in India. One of the best fighters in the world , even today. We don't have to look only at imports to get a feel of the IAF strength.

Compare apples to apples
by Krishnan vs on Nov 16, 2018 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

UPA Cost = x ( bare bones).
UPA Cost with addons = not known
YOY increase in cost = y
UPA did not decide for 5 years.
So new barebone cost will increase based on YOY component.
UPA did not decide on addons.. so that will increase the cost.

So Jailtey in his argument compared only the barebones cost and discounted the YOY inflation addons to do a apple to apple comparision.

What does Mr Ajai see incorrect in this ?

Ajai SHukla says that the costs he is giving are INCLUSIVE of all weapons, add ons, maintenance services etc, for BOTH NDA and UPA offers. Even if we take inflation at 3% per year as agreed from 2012 to 2016, that still leaves the current prices 30% higher than the old prices.
Of course Ajai Shukla must be able to prove that his sources are authoritative.

Can Ajai Shukla claim Kick backs in the deal
by divakar kamath on Nov 16, 2018 03:24 PM  | Hide replies

What does Ajai Shukla wants to prove ? That He has some knowledge about Defence sector News or Is he just writing article to fill space and as his profession ? Will Ajai Shukla pin point to us the money trail in the supposed kick back in rafale deal? Or is it simply says that there were o kick backs but NDA Govt was fooled into paying more?

Just agreeing to pay more by 30-40% is itself a crime. It does not need a kickback to be present.
However, the writer must be able to prove all these figures in a COurt.
Remember that in the 2G scam, figures and facts first started leaking out from Govt sources and something similar may be happening here.
