Upgrade technology

With changing weather conditions this problem will only get more severe. Cost of living will go up and so will the population. Farm loan waivers every 5 years cannot be the answer. Free sops means some one has to ultimately pay. If not us...our children and grand children.

We must help the farmers increase productivity via new technology, education, crop insurance and minimum support pricing for a couple of years.

no one can save farmers
by nagabhushan narappa on Dec 21, 2017 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

Farmers should understand no govt can save them. Small and medium farmers either have sold their lands or taken loans against land to meet their financial requirements. Now none of the govts worked out financial strengthening of farmers. They should only to the parties which will announce proper support price for each crop and who can create proper amenities like irrigation systems export marketing st ups etc. otherwise next generation farmers also has to commit suicides.
Since independance salaries for govt officials have rised some hundreds times and where as support prices rised 35 times. creating a huge gap between income levels. govt officials spending crores on their children marriages where as farmers selling their lands to meet marriage expenses. no way out for them.

AS govt increased salaries of govt employees by 30%. Railways services dropped drastically see the train timings compared to 4 years back it gone worse. why can't they throw out inefficient buggers and place some efficint people at key positions. Same applicable to all departments particularly agriculture dept these guys are not contributing any thing to farmers they are busy preparing reports to submit to higher officials. As per them their job is only preparing reports nothing else. if govt can't change this attitude how can they get actual results. system is fully rotten farmers have to suffer and die.

Mostly true but not completely
by vishal mehta on Dec 21, 2017 11:52 AM

I do agree, Farmers needs to be taken care by any government. THey have been neglected for years now irrespective of any government at state or centre. Those who blame current government is again not correct but ofcourse, current govt hasnt done much. Crop Insurance Indeed is a good initiative and we must appreciate this fact. however, a major agriculture revival needed in our country. I think all political parties and even public like us should really work towards it. Gujarat verdict should be eyeopener not only for BJP but also for other states and other parties as its a nation wide issue even though BJP is not ruling there. We should continuously voice farmers concern but also make sure what most of the farmers do is also not right. they shouldn't take profession for granted. its a noble nation building profession and both parties should respect it.

Farm crisis
by MNN on Dec 21, 2017 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

The Farm crisis, pan India is not something that happened in the last 3-4 years. It is the result of skewed policies over the years by the Central Govt in tangent with the State Govt. Over the past 20-25 years this crisis has been looming & getting larger & larger. Did the Central Govt take any credible measures. The previous govt at the Centre had the so called messiah of farmers as its Agriculture Minister. Pls let me know 1 good far reaching reforms that he implemented in the 10 yrs that he was in the chair. Any 1 far reaching project connected to farming . Nothing , ZERO. The only thing he regularly did was yearly announce before festivals that prices of oninons, potatoes, tomatos, pulses, sugar , vegetables etc would increase & lo & behold the prices would shoot up immediately. Within a couple of months some schemes would be implemented like importing/ support prices etc which was devised to show the people that the govt stepped in to control pprices . Next year the same saga continued with a different crop. Only middle men & APMC guys benefitted. Now also under the guise of crop loan waiver in Maharashtra, many people have applied for loan waiver. When AADHAR has been linked to each accounts, more than 25% names have vanished ? How ? But still the corrupt politicians keep cribbing , bcoz their beneficiaries have suffered. The farmers are also to blame, they fall for the politicians, middle mens words & stretch themselves beyond their resources.
