We expected?
by V Nagarajan on Dec 28, 2017 09:10 AM

We expected a lot more from NDA/BJP but they have disappointed us totally. They seem to be doing a lot of unwanted things rather than concentrating on the essentials.Unless they change their mindset,it is likely to be difficult in future elections?

the result

generally both the state and central governments neglects the farming community completely whichever
party is at the helm of affairs.

they favour the Industrialists and the It establishments.
If the farming community fails how will one get
food.
Can the industrialists and It establishments bring
food for the people from their concerns??

The government should give priority to farming only
next to defence. Others should come only next to this.

Admirable service!
by Venkatesa Prabhu on Dec 22, 2017 12:33 PM

The author of this article is doing an admirable service by connecting with a whole of lesser known people and discovering why there is a disconnect between the PM and the rural farmers of Gujarat, in this instance. He also hopes such anger will get reflected in other by-polls and polls to be held in coming months, so the PM can then wake up from his slumber. He has been wrongly portrayed as a baiter of PM. Actually he is the biggest supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bjp in Gujrat Election
by Sudeep Asthana on Dec 22, 2017 10:21 AM  | Hide replies

Farmers were angry with the BJP because Gujrat Govt did not waived farmers loans as other BJP State Govt. did. That's why BJP did not do well in the rural. It will repeat in other states as well. This is a wrong practice. Governments must think how to improve farmers income rather waiving loans.

Absolutely agreed. I being form a farming family and working in IT am of the same view.
Repeated policies of government have made farmers dependent on subsidies, waivers etc. Its high time that the next green revolution happens and farmers are made self dependent. Stop giving petty benefits to farmers and instead give the right pricing. FARMERS are not beggars and for heavens sake, dont make them lazy and dependent on doles. Give them back their self respect and work.

In 2002 you said wait for 2007. In 2007, it was 2012. In 2012, wait for 2014. In 2014, it was 2017. In 2017, wait for 2019. In 2019? :-)

I could not find
by ANURAG SHUKLA on Dec 21, 2017 11:03 PM

The correct reasons of farmer/villagers displeasure should be find out to resolve. The free bee is no solution but skill development, availability of water, availability of fertilizers, modernization of forming may be a solution. We need a farmer standing/capable to stand on his foots is needed not by a single free bee or giving grant.

elections were for the congress to lose. they had everything going for them; anti-incumbency, patidar agitation, dalit agitation, implementation of gst, problems during and due to demonetization, etc. and above all a charged up ra_ga.
i guess it is more important to know why congress lost the election rather than why BJP lost the so-called "rural gujarat"?
are rediff and firdaus ready to investigate?

Excellent Observatio..
I heard that BJP's overall Vote share has gone up.... Then how did BJP lose so many seats? It is clear that it is not the public which voted BJP out.It is queer method of giving weightage and counting, which did BJP in (in the snse that do not have Two Third Majority, have just simple majority.)

similarly cong_and_rahu(l) had planned and even declared that the next Gujarat gvt. would be formed by the congress.
so what happened?
instead of trying to count imaginary gains, you need an honest introspection.

Upgrade technology
by Rahul Menon on Dec 21, 2017 05:07 PM

With changing weather conditions this problem will only get more severe. Cost of living will go up and so will the population. Farm loan waivers every 5 years cannot be the answer. Free sops means some one has to ultimately pay. If not us...our children and grand children.

We must help the farmers increase productivity via new technology, education, crop insurance and minimum support pricing for a couple of years.
